You do realize that gambling is legal in some areas and that Bill Bennett, while reckless and probably addicted, has broken no laws. If his family can tolerate his addictions and he isn't broke, it's not our problem.

OTOH- Spitzer has not only violated the law but he seems to have broken more laws in order to hide his illegal behavior.

  • Two Wrongs Don't Make a Right

[Read the article: The tragic fall of Eliot Spitzer]

It sickens me to read the nattering on about torture and lack of WMD's. Guess what folks, we had a chance to put a clear end to it and we FAILED. Our politicians failed and we brought them back into office. That's called in educational terms Positive Reinforcement. Keep going Bush!

Let me get this straight, this boneheadedness justifies giving Eliot Spitzer a break because the electorate is too stupid and gullible to kick GWB and company out of office for clear, patent lying?

Spitzer clearly violated his office and the law and deserves what he gets. If someone wants Bush indicted, go do it. See how far you get.

One thing that I don't understand is why people are surprised at how Bush has gotten away with his actions. We live in a violent and violence-loving nation where guns are rampant but health care is scarce. We, the people, accept it but bi#*& and moan about it. That's America. Maybe someday soon we will all get sick of the lying and vote out the losers, but until then, blame yourself for Bush and company, but don't give the Spitzers of the world a pass on dishonesty.

  • Hillary Clinton's Experience

[Read the article: Obama camp targets Clinton experience claims]

HRC's experience in foreign policy is minimal. There is some but very little. Is that more than Obama? Clearly.

However the fact remains that neither candidate has a treasure trove of foreign policy experience. Most of their work is, as it should be, on domestic issues. However, HRC has made a big issue of her alleged experience because she wants to hit out at Obama at his weakest point. The problem with that is two-fold: First, Hillary's own experience by any fair accounting except her own is MINIMAL. Secondly, she made a colossal mistake in judgement by voting for the Iraq war.

But let's examine the record on experience in foreign policy. Unless I am greatly mistaken, the Bush admin is chock full of the most experienced people you could find. Decades of it. Certainly not Bush (prior to his role as president) but Cheney and others.

Someone please outline for me how "foreign policy experience" has benefitted the American people over the past 7 yrs? I'd really love to know.

Personally, I want someone in office who shares my priorities and values and maintaining a 100 yrs war or capitulating at every turn isn't one of them.

Get real. Hundreds of millions in the family coffers.

I'm glad Spitzer is out. He needed to hold himself accountable since he has done the same to others.

  • About "Kristen"

[Read the article: Misadventures in logical reasoning -- and lessons learned from the Spitzer scandal]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I don't know if anyone else posted this but the NY Times has an interview of sorts with the young woman who is the federal witness against Spitzer. She's quite young. "Kristen" also, like so many other young women who "choose" to engage in prostitution, has been abused, homeless and drug-addicted.

I don't pretend to be everyone's mom. I do however have the capacity to attempt to see events from the perspective of others, something you clearly lack.

You want prostitution to be a victimless crime so you hide behind the logic that the individuals are consenting. I suggested many posts and threads ago that consent (AKA Free Will) is a bizarre and foreign concept when the individual involved in selling herself is A) doing so for money B) and usually is driven by abuse, drug addiction and emotional or psychological problems.

There is extensive evidence to support what I am saying and I CHALLENGE you to do some research. There are centers around the US that work to get "working girls" out of the profession and it is very hard. The money and the ease of it are one thing. The psychological forces that drive this destructive behavior are another thing entirely and good programs seek to address the underlying issues, not just the behavior of prostitution.

Lastly, I point to Kristen, the young woman involved in this case as an example. A classic example. A young woman who ultimately chose to prostitute herself. Why? Was it the prior abuse? Was it the experience of homelessness? Troubled family background? Most likely, it is all of the above. I hope she gets the help she needs and can move on in a positive way.

When I think about her sad case and I think of Ex-Gov Spitzers' own daughters, I question what kind of a person he is at heart. Kristen is only a few years older than his oldest girl. Why was it OK to engage THIS very young woman in criminal activity? My theory (again, a shift of perspective) is that he is an egomaniac and an emotionally cold bastard.
