THE WIRE, VERONICA MARS, and BATTLESTAR GALACTICA are all fantastic, much better than the most of the shows that get nominated for Emmys. In retrospect, THE WIRE might well be considered the greatest work of art of the 21st Century. And VERONICA MARS is still my all-time favorite show, too bad the Buffy Award didn't translate into better ratings. Winning the 2007 Buffy will definitely make me give FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS another look. My congratulations to FNL and the judges for their exquisite taste.
Why can't I ever see my typos until after I've posted them? The only thing "more worse" than my writing at this hour is Paglia's drivel. But I like her, pompous twits are so much fun to mock.
I am getting sick and tired of hearing that Bush Co. has prevented further attacks since 9/11. It's complete nonsense. The bombings in Madrid and London are even more worse because they they got hit while defending America. When our allies get bombed, we get bombed.
Paglia is perpetuating the canard that right wingers protect their countries. Ultimately they destroy their countries. We need to protect the Constitution, that holy liberal document, as much as we need to protect our borders. We cannot do that while this gang of Republicans is in charge.
Either my computer or my brain is on the fritz today. I could have sworn I put an N in soundtrack and a Y in party.
Another movie about Joy Division is 24 HOUR PART PEOPLE. In one of the unwritten screenplays I have stored in my attic, the hero dies, then just before the credits roll, ATMOSPHERE is played. I think Winterbottom used that song in the scene where Curtis commits suicide. I'm weeping just thinking about it.
A happier, comedic mental screenplay of mine uses NO LOVE LOST for the opening credits. I can't wait to see these movies, thanks for the heads up.
Linear Chaos, I didn't say there are Democrats who won't be fooled by Bin Laden. You're kind of an arrogant for a one trick pony aren't you?
Osama bin Laden pretty much encapsulates the netroots' counterarguments to General Petraeus in his latest video. He even quotes Chomsky. He should get his own blog on Kos or Salon. Maybe he can even score a spot on the Democrats' 2008 ticket.

You're right, and only the dimmest bulbs would allow themselves to be fooled by this blatant right wing ploy. You are being manipulated. Buy a vowell pal, buy a clue.
I'm sure this point has already been made here, but isn't it obvious that Osama Bin Laden is just trying to manipulate the American public into supporting George Bush? Why didn't we catch on to this when he appeared in that 2004 video wearing a John Kerry button on his robe?
Let's review the latest tape: global warming-check, withdrawl from Iraq-Check, lower taxes-check, democracy is bad-Check, corporatist policies-check, Democrats are weak-check, Chomsky-check. Fox News should hire him to take Alan Colmes place.
Any other overlooked favorites out there?

Xrandadu, I like the concept of Table Talk, but the way it's formatted makes it almost unreadable. Your post was way more interesting.
There are several directors that make cult classics. John Waters, Werner Herzog, Mike Judge, Tom DeCilo, the Coen Brothers, and as you mentioned, David Lynch, just to name a few that come to mind.
If you've never seen RED ROCK WEST, give it a try. It's got Dennis Hopper, so it automatically qualifies as a cult classic. RIVER'S EDGE is another Hopper cult movie. A BOY AND HIS DOG features a very young Don Johnson.
You mentioned ExistenZ, which stars one of my favorite cult actresses, Jennifer Jason Leigh. From her filmogoraphy are: HEART OF MIDNIGHT, BURIED ALIVE, THE BIG PICTURE, DOLORES CLAIBORNE, SISTER SISTER, FLESH AND BLOOD(Directed by Paul Verhoven, anther cult director), DOROTHY PARKER, SINGLE WHITE FEMALE, and of course, the movie that launched a thousand careers, FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH.
Now that we are in the Golden Age of Television, there are some shows that are worth noting. THE WIRE, DEADWOOD, DR. WHO, BATTLESTAR GALACTIA, THE SHIELD, RESCUE ME, CARNIVALE, VERONICA MARS could all be considered cult classics. One of my favorite television writers, Bryan Fuller, has a new show coming out called, PUSHING DAISIES. He also wrote DEAD LIKE ME, and an under-appreciated gem called WONDERFALLS, not to mention several episodes of HEROES.
A fight broke out at Tommy's AA meeting.
Glenn failed to mention Mark Levin's official title.

Not one single announcer mentioned that Bucholtz was pitching a no-hitter.
I see the first two commenters already mention Mo Berg. He wasn't much of a player, but his contribution to winning WWII, should have at least earned him honorable mention.
I didn't know it at the time, but in 1969 I must have made a deal with God, that if the Mets won the World Series, I would then become a jinx. It didn't kick in until after the N.B.A. play-offs the following year, but it's held true pretty much since then. Even in 1986 while living in Vermont, and being delighted by the outcome of Game Six, I wanted the Red Sox to win one for my elderly grandfather, friends, and neighbors.
Now I live in the Bay Area, and root for the Giants. I have a whole litany of superstitions, but everything I do, backfires. Just last week I commented on a Giants blog that Tim Lincecum was pitching the best game of his career. Naturally, the Cubs came back and won the game in the ninth.
The way I console myself in these dark days is by remembering the absolute joy I felt during the Summer of 1969.
