  • Joan Walsh & Respect

[Read the article: Hillary enters death-with-dignity phase]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The lack of respect for Hillary Clinton by Taliesen, et al, and the potentially deleterious effect its having on the Obama campaign, is underscored by this Joan Walsh opinion piece; I agree with her analysis completely:

"I have occasionally wished Obama himself would say something about the often-sexist viciousness Clinton has faced, but it's probably too much to ask in a campaign this contentious. Certainly Ted Kennedy didn't help Obama on Friday when he said Clinton wasn't a good candidate to be Obama's running mate and suggested that she wasn't "in tune with his appeal for the nobler aspirations" of the American people. Rep. Rahm Emanuel slapped Kennedy on Sunday, telling the New York Times (probably to make up for sounding like it was all over for Clinton on Friday): "I have a lot of respect for Ted Kennedy, but I don't know how the hell he comes off saying that. The gratuitous attack on her is uncalled for and wrong. He is a better senator than that comment reveals.”

I've talked about Clinton's need, in the closing days of the campaign, to improve her tone; clearly Obama too needs to work not to alienate Clinton supporters. He's done a great job being gracious all week, from his victory speech in North Carolina May 6 to his remarks to CNN's Wolf Blitzer that she'd be on "anybody's shortlist" for vice president. But Obama should be careful to make sure surrogates like Kennedy don't squander the goodwill he's trying to build. I'm not sure Clinton merits or wants the V.P. slot, but she at least deserves more respect than Kennedy showed while both campaigns figure out what comes next. It would be a shame if McCain's campaign did a better job feigning respect than Obama's did actually showing it.

    -- Joan Walsh"

    Amen, Joan!

  • Just Curious...

[Read the article: Hillary enters death-with-dignity phase]

    1) How will Barack Obama win the general election if he CAN'T attract the very voters that Hillary Clinton IS winning...from middle-age to older women and men, blue-collar workers to Latinos?

    2) How long will Barack Obama's coattails be? Long enough to increase the paper-thin majority we have in the Senate and to increase the majority in the House?

    3) Should he lose the general election, will his supporters whine that "Hillary Clinton lost it for him because she didn't quit"?

Nevermind on #3; I already know the answer...unfortunately.

  • The Silly Season Continues

[Read the article: Republicans twist Obama's statements about Israel]

Congressman Boehner has the unblinking stare of an ophidian and the scaly character to match. He represents the most egregious element within the Republican party: half-truth if any at all.

Congressman Boehner would take Obama's statement that "Santa wears a red suit" and bastardize it into "Senator Obama said that Santa is a Communist because he wears a suit that is the color of the Communist Chinese flag."

His parents must have conceived him via anal copulation. Not even the people of his district take him seriously, so, why should we?

  • A Party Farther Divided

[Read the article: Clinton supporters push back against NARAL endorsement]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Following NARAL's endorsement of Senator Obama, you can certainly count this 40-something male...who has supported NARAL generously financially, politically and with his own body defending clinics...as seething with anger at their betrayal of Hillary Clinton, a woman who has been a staunch defender of NARAL and a woman's right to choose for decades!

When President John McCain appoints two or more anti-choice justices to the US Supreme Court, there will be no more freedom of choice and no more reason for NARAL to exist...since there will no longer be any choice to make.

    Goodbye NARAL...

  • Reading The Tea Leaves

[Read the article: Clinton supporters push back against NARAL endorsement]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Given the deep and rancid divisions between Hillary Rodham Clinton's supporters and Barack Hussein Obama's supporters, plus the "Swift-Boating" that Obama is sure to endure, and the problem he has with a huge swath of the Democratic base multiplied by the full wrath of the Republican slime machine, I honestly can't see him winning this fall. Honestly.

And, honestly, I hope I'm wrong about the outcome.

  • The Future

[Read the article: Blacklisted by the Bush government]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Before long, I imagine we'll all have biometric devices implanted in our bodies so GPS tracking of individuals will be possible, we'll all have to submit to mandatory DNA sampling for the government's database, we'll all need to carry internal passports...a la the old Soviet Union...and, loyalty oaths to the state will replace the Pledge of Allegiance in schools.

Rumor has it that the implanted biometrics are going to be tested on Mexican illegals first...sort of a catch and release program for humans. "Walt Disney World" in Orlando is already the largest user of biometrics in the US...using fingerprint scanners to ensure that the same person is using the same ticket at their park each day. Really!

Orwell's "1984" was for sissies; this is for real.

(Note: no Homeland Security people were harmed in this dramatization, but, we have totally pissed off "Disney World" security.)
