  • The Obvious Conclusion?

    [Read the article: Super stuck!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

We Democrats have two outstanding candidates for President; each is liked by approximately 50% of the electorate. That's the good part.

However, almost 50% of each side's supporters say they won't support the other guy should their choice fail to win the nomination. A Democratic party thats divided now will remain divided through the general election...paving the way for a McCain presidency. That's the bad part.

That obvious conclusion? I still think that a Clinton-Obama ticket is the best ticket possible. It would unite the two diverse elements of our party into a single homogeneous unit. Bruised feelings between the two camps will give way to a shared sense of purpose should they join.

Otherwise, we may be doomed to a third act of George W. Bush's presidency. That should be enough to scare anyone.

  • Two Halves Of A Whole

[Read the article: The Brazile-Begala smackdown]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Forgive me for being "Captain Obvious", but, aren't we looking at two halves of a whole here? Its not conservatives versus liberals, as in Republican versus Democrat, but, it is a division within the Democratic party itself. That is the fracture, as it were.

Barack Obama pulls blacks, ultra-libs, yups, younger and the well-educated; Hillary pulls the Reagan-Democrats, working-class, many whites, older and the more conservative element within the party. That, to me, looks a helluva lot like two sides of a whole that is our party.

The Republicans claim to be the "Big tent" party, but, are so narrowly-constricted that, unless you are a born-again-pro-life-anti-gay-pro-gun-God-squad member ...you do NOT fit in. We, as Democrats, have a diversity that makes us stronger..usually. Now, we have to bring those two diverse halves together to appeal to BOTH sides of our party.

Can it be done? Will the rifts heal? The Republicans are rubbing their nasty paws together in anticipation of us NOT being able to bring both halves into synch. They might well be right.

Cheers, sir, for your reasoned, measured, cogent and coherent riposte/response to the Obama hoi polloi who continue to diss and dismiss those of us who have real reservations about his ability to win in November.

To them I have but one thing to say regarding Barack's impending coronation: "You may have won the battle, but, you probably will lose the war."

    Absit invidia...

  • That Big Ol' Democratic Tent

[Read the article: Clinton: "I am in this race"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

From all the points of view expressed here by Democrats of every stripe (plus a few lurking Limbaugh chaos-critters), its easy to see that we are a very diverse party. That is our strength...as well as our weakness, IMHO.

Conservative Reagan-Dems on one side all the way over to Free Mumia/Earth Liberation Front types on the other. Good God, no wonder we are so damned fractious: we encompass nearly the entire political spectrum!

Makes one wonder how the extremes will reconcile with each other in time for the Fall election...if they do at all. <<sigh>>

  • The Audacity Of Hype

[Read the article: Hillary enters death-with-dignity phase]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

As I read the scribblings and mindless meanderings of the various Obama trolls above, I would be remiss if I didn't repeat the obvious: by denigrating the candidate who I and about 50% of the electorate has chosen to support...Hillary Clinton...how can you people hope to entice and encourage us to support Barack Obama with any enthusiasm, if at all?

Do you really think that we will fall in line behind your candidate simply because you say so? I can understand that you support your candidate; I can't understand, though, why you are so nasty and use such vulgar language about Hillary Clinton when you do so.

You need the approximate one-half of Democrats and Independents who voted for someone other than Senator Obama to win; dissing and damning those of us who haven't voted for him isn't the way to win us over to your cause.

Our choices? (1) Hold our noses and vote for Obama, (2) vote for McCain out of protest or, (3) not vote at all, see Obama lose and try again in 2012...probably with Hillary Clinton. Those choices depend on how you treat us. Consider this fair warning...

(Notice that I had nothing bad to say about Senator Obama in this post; its his supporters who generally are a p.i.t.a.)

I've read your rantings, screeds, ad hominem attacks and blather demeaning and berating Clinton and her supporters on Salon for months. You personify precisely why I, and others, view Obama's supporters as bordering on being drones, 'droids, bots or worse.

It seems that all of you are virtually incapable of promoting your candidate without demeaning the other. The fact that most Obama supporters seem to be rude, contemptuous and snide is not lost on the rest of us; therefore, many if not most of us have no desire whatsoever to work with any of you for Obama's election. If Obama is such a great candidate, why are so many of his supporters such total a**holes?

At this point, it looks like Barack Obama will be the Democratic candidate for President. I wish only good luck to him in the general election; he's really, really going to need it...in abundance!

"@AnaHadWolves...I have read your various screeds and it isn't like you have any room to speak.-- Taliesan"

Then, as a staunch Obamabot, you'll understand why I and many others may well just sit this one out and prepare for 2012. In any event, have a nice megalomania.

You have a point, as well, but, if you comb your hair differently, perhaps no one will notice.
