To AlecsMom: Went back and re-read my post. You must have either magical x-ray vision or an omniscience greater than God, but, I called no names in my post; I simply made some pointed observations. You still didn't refute my premise, though, that Barack Obama is an empty suit. That's my knock on him, plain and simple. IMHO, he speaks in platitudes, generalities and grandiose verbiosity while we need specifics, incisiveness and the straight truth from our Democratic candidate. My view is that the Obamatons are in a mad rush to annoint him as some sort of cult-figure or savior; I'm simply put off by that blind-to-reality mentality.

As my distant cousin President Harry Truman once observed: "People think I give them Hell. All I do is tell the truth; they just think its Hell."

To Steveo23: One of the good things about nearing 40 is the ability to have a point of relevant reference when it comes to judging Presidential prospects. I'd posit that you are in your 20's, hence, your point of relevant reference is less than 10 years: Presidents Clinton and Bush.

At 38, I have the ability to add four more Presidential administrations to that, being just old enough to remember President Ford and the subsequent Presidents. With that experience, I can better judge what a President has been and a candidate will be. My judgement is that Barack Obama, while an inspiring person, is simply not ready to be President.

If thats a case of "you kids get off my lawn", so be it; I still want a President who has maturity, ability, judgement and a sense of gravitas. In my opinion, that is Hillary Clinton.

You wrote: "Since you seem to be one of the cadre driving the back and forth in these letter columns, I have a challenge for you: Take a break from the over-the-top sniping with other equally over-the-top accusers and instead respond to my previous letter. Or respond to this one: Take a break and turn your passion on McCain.--softdog"

First: Since the topic here is Hillary/Barack, my responses have been on-point; a non-sequiturial answer referencing John McCain would be out of place, wouldn't it?

Second: I'm not sure why you chose the pejorative "cadre" to describe people here who are passionate about their beliefs; a "cadre" usually is a military expression for a group around whom a unit is formed, or a training staff. Perhaps you just liked the sound of the word.

As for whether or not postings other than yours contain "sniping", "over-the-top" or "accusatory" content, perhaps your arrogance, hubris and malignant narcissism cause you to believe that only your opinion has worth or merit. Bulletin: it doesn't.

And, third: When your name has "Moderator" after it, perhaps you will control the agenda. Until then, though, I imagine that we peons and serfs will continue...gleefully...to antagonize the hard-asses and the "softdogs" alike.

    Have a nice megalomania.

  • Couple of Questions

[Read the article: Rep. Jackie Speier comes out swinging]

"Why does Congresswoman Spier hate America?" "Why does the newest Congressperson from CaliChina feel the need to betray our men and women who are at war protecting America?" "Is Congresswoman Spier a stooge of the liberal defeatist Democrats?" "Is she going to burn our flag next?"

I just thought I'd jump in with a premptive Republican strike from the Rovian Realm. Heh.

  • Rebecca Nailed It!

[Read the article: Hey, Obama boys: Back off already!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Rebecca wrote: " I was confused by the saucer-eyed, unquestioning devotion shown by my formerly cynical cohorts, especially when it was accompanied, as it often was, by a sharp renunciation of Hillary Clinton, whose policies are so similar to her opponent's. I was horrified by the frequent proclamations that if Obama did not win the nomination, his supporters would abstain from voting in the general election, or even vote for John McCain. I was suspicious of the cultlike commitment to an undeniably brilliant and inspiring man –- but one whom even his wife calls "just a man."

As one who has said virtually the same thing for months, Rebecca, I, too, have been increasingly put off by the "saucer-eyed, cult-like devotion" of most of the Obamatons. Its gotten to the point that a few of my long-time and closest friends, who support Obama, have practically stopped speaking to me because I support Hillary Clinton; further, they have accused me of being pro-Republican because I question Obama's qualifications to be president.

The shrill stridency and Jim Jones-like cultism of the Obamatons leaves me cold and not inclined to support him; if that makes me "bitter", Senator Obama, so be it.

You wrote: "I wonder if we can't differentiate between the Senator and his supporters. He's shown himself capable of feeling and principles.-- Greeneyedkzin"

Thanks for a thoughtful response; your other points (edited out here) are likewise well-said. Good to read your entire post.

I must disagree, however, with your idea that he is "capable of feeling and principles"; I find him to be aloof, a bit arrogant, humorless and somewhat elitist. As for his "principles", the Rezko affair has still not completely come to the surface, so, that is still a question in my mind.

If I just felt more comfortable with Senator Obama, I might be an enthusiastic supporter; I am, however, one who questions nearly everything I see and hear. Having been lied to by many/most politicians, I will be the final arbiter and judge of what is "truth, justice and the American way." I will do that beFORE I vote for a candidate.

Bottom line: if Senator Obama wants my vote, he hasn't earned it yet. I'll have to be more confident that he has a rock-solid plan for the Iraq imbroglio, the housing abortion, the economy overall and our relationship with the civilized world that Dubya so thoroughly screwed.

    Tag, Senator Obama...you're it.
