@ Mark Williams

Well said, sir, however, you have the luxury of making an observation from abroad where intelligence trumps superstition; we here must endure the self-inflicted stigmata and flagellations of our self-righteous candidates for high office.

Their unblinking focus on Muslim extremism, theocratically-based Mideast governments and mullah-ocracies make them blind to the same practices here...only difference is in parading Jesus Christ as their totem instead of Mohammad.

As a person whose ancestry begins in America in 1607 at Jamestowne and whose lineage goes back in England to Alfred the Great...at least...the appeal of returning to my ancestral roots grows exponentially daily.

One more shout of "Jesus is a Republican" and I'm calling British Airways!

Propaganda Is Propaganda

Being truthful with the citizenry seems to be anathema to most governments; seventy-five years ago, Josef Goebbels, master propagandist for the Nazis over a dozen years, became, by 1927, the "Marat of Red Berlin, a nightmare and goblin of history" for the Nazi Party through his adroitness with propaganda.

Goebbels became the most feared demagogue in Berlin, exploiting to the full his deep, powerful voice, rhetorical fervor and unscrupulous appeal to primitive instincts. A tireless, tenacious agitator with the gift of paralyzing opponents by a guileful combination of venom, slander and insinuation, Goebbels knew how to mobilize the fears of the unemployed masses as the Great Depression hit Germany, playing on the national psyche with "ice-cold calculation."

With the skill of a master propagandist, he provided the slogans, the myths and images plus the telling aphorisms which rapidly spread the message of National Socialism.

Today, no matter whether it was/is Karl Rove, Dana Perino, Tony Snow, Ed Gillespie or any of the other synchophants within the Bush Maladministration, they all follow in the footsteps of Josef Goebbels. Goebbels' unmistakable stench permeates them, as well..

Philosophy 101

The argument concerning whether or not Mormons are Christians reminds me of the old philosophical adage: "All poodles are dogs but not all dogs are poodles."

Romney may worship...or not...as he pleases; he may not prevaricate, dissemble, lie outright nor mislead about his actual practices and policies to attain high office.

I believe that most religions discourage dishonesty.

Flexitarian For Me

On 29 March, 2002, my numerous vegetarian friends and buds finally got me to change from being a carnivore to becoming a "flexitarian", i.e., a 99% vegetarian who will occasionally eat seafood (for the heart benefits). When I see an article such as this one, it simply reinforces my decision to eschew...pun intended...meat, per se.

Now, if and when tofu becomes dangerous to one's health, I'll probably switch to grazing in the pasture; hopefully, at least Bermuda grass will remain healthful.

Let Your Lite So Shine...

I've always regarded the Bushes...pere et fils...as "Bush Lite" and "Bush Lite-er"; mental agility or ability has never been the strong suit of this family.

Legend has it that many of their ancestors drowned over the years because they looked up when it rained.

All Pretense Is Now Dropped...

For those two or three of you who did not know that the Republican Party is, in reality, an adjunct of the Christian Coalition...you know it now.

Of course, "reality" is usually in very short supply with the Born Agains anyhow, isn't it?

Captain Obvious Checking In...

Dick Cheney co-opted Bush's alleged "foreign policy" for two very basic reasons: (1) Bush was/is too stupid to understand the complexities, meanings and nuances of an actual foreign policy and (2) Cheney has been the de facto President since January, 2001, in any event.

Bush is a clueless and sad sock-puppet...no disrespect to competent sock-puppets intended.

"Blown" Out Of Proportion?

The continuing American obsession with sex, in all its permutations, continues to reduce me to sniggers, titters (non-sexual, of course), giggles and guffaws; why anyone would actually care with whom a person might engage in a sexual act is beyond me.

Aside from the fact that we are as sophisticated as two 10-year-old boys who have snagged an older brother's copy of "Playboy" or "Penthouse", this country treats sex as dirty and the air as clean...when quite the opposite should, in fact, be the case.

I don't care whom my neighbor is screwing; I do care if my President is screwing the country, the world and the environment.

Priorities, people, priorities...

In Perspective

In perspective, I don't care what kind of airliner or airline I fly if the plane is in good shape and the crew competent.

Of course, this rules out Aeroflot completely as an airline and any NorthWest flight-crew who usually come directly to the airport from a bar. Aeroflot, by the way, is Russian for "OH MY GOD!"; NorthWest is how they fly when instructed to head South.

...full of sound & fury, signifying nothing...

While we may all cringe and recoil at the wretched excesses of the Bushites and their NeoCon/BornAgain butt-boys, truth of the matter is that so many of their followers take in the manure they offer and believe it as Gospel! If you quote the bible often enough, tell people that Jesus is your drinking-buddy and you have arm-wrestled Satan and won...these poor simpletons will follow you...slack-jawed, breathing through their mouths and dragging their knuckles...right into the voting booth.

Be prepared for multiple stigmata showings, copious flagellata bearings and quotes from the Bible...King James version only, please...from many if not all of the Republicans.

I suppose its time to order my sack-cloth and ashes for the coronation of the next Republican-cum-Pontius-Pilate...((sigh))
