"And yet these Congressional actions are happening in a Dem majority branch of Government. Goodness."

Having a simple majority does not equal a super-majority in Congress. Simple majorities guarantee committee-heads only; it takes that super-majority to ensure that legislation escapes the veto pen of Dubya. The recalcitrant and obstructive Bushite Republicans, who would rather die than agree to ANY proposal from the Dems, are the proximate cause of the problem in getting much-needed legislation passed.

"* The military became politicized by the left long before Petraeus became commander. Attempts to demonize the troops by Murtha and Durbin as a means to discredit the administration set the tone."

Oh, really? "Demonizing the troops" must mean telling the unvarnished truth about the mission and the lack of candor from them and Mr. Bush. John Murtha is a distinguished Marine and enjoys the respect of most if not all in the Pentagon and on the Hill, therefore, his opinion on the subject carries weight.

"* Expressing confidence in one's group is not "rah-rah prancing."

Not telling the truth before a Congressional committee and hedging, dodging and dissembling isn't what the American people expect from a military officer, either.

"* Move on went over the line for most people in declaring Petraeus a traitor. That was a political act."

SwiftBoatVeteransForTruth slimed John Kerry for his heroic service in Vietnam. Screw you and the rest of your Right Wing bastards for that political act!

"* This is a political war. Both here and there."

It's a "war" of George Bush's choosing: we were not attacked by Saddam Hussein, he had no WMD and he did not provide aid, solace, comfort or facilities to Al Queda. Matter of fact, by taking down Saddam Hussein, Al Queda gained a foothold in Iraq that they never would have had if we hadn't taken down Saddam.

"* The anti-war lobby has an inherent conflict when advocating the war in Afghanistan."

Don't be obtuse; the war in Afghanistan was justified because that's where Osama Bin Laden was...and, probably still is! George Bush, however, bears the responsibility for diverting our resources AWAY from Afghanistan and the hunt for Al Queda/Bin Ladin in that wretchedly ill-advised "war" in Iraq. Blame Dubya for that stupidity.

"* Trying to play both sides against the middle a la Clinton is being exposed as manipulative machination."

Cute alliteration there, but, it doesn't pass the smell test: "triangulation" is a long-used method by Republicans to play all ends against the middle. Playing people against each other for political gain is vile, evil and rank; it remains, however, the hallmark of the Republicans.

"If this is the best(worst) Glenn can come up with, the war in Iraq is pretty much won. What a terrible thing for those here invested in defeat. Heh."

"Invested in defeat"? George W. Bush did that by ignoring scores of scholars, advisors, military and political experts in the Middle East and starting a war in Iraq that did not need to happen.

You and your co-horts continue to demean anyone who disagrees with you as "unpatriotic"; that was the mantra of the Third Reich sixty years ago. Congrats on trying to revive your idols and heroes.

The real enemies of America? You and your ilk.

  • Good For The Goose, Good For...

[Read the article: The era of Hillary begins]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

So...just the mention of Hillary's name as the Democratic candidate for President will cause all Repooplicans to run screaming to the polls...voting several times each...for their annointed candidate? And their consensus candidate is whom?

May I suggest that the real reason that Jeb Bush isn't that "annointed candidate" of the Repooplicans in '08 is that very same disgust the Dems experience for anything even remotely named "Bush"?

    I'm just sayin'...

  • Politics: A Religion-Free Zone...Please!

[Read the article: "A vote for Romney is a vote for Satan"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Reading the various takes on Romney's religion, lack thereof, Christianity, non-Christianity, et al, only underscores my continuing desire to end all references to a person's religion as a qualification for holding public office.

John Kennedy famously told an interviewer in 1960 that being a Roman Catholic wouldn't make an iota of difference in how he'd approach his job as President. Fast-forward to 2004 when several Roman Catholic bishops and priests said that Roman Catholic John Kerry should be and would be denied holy communion because he's pro-choice. Add to that the Religious Right's disdain for Rudy Giuliani in 2007 because of his support of social issues that contradict their anti-choice and anti-gay positions and you have the beginnings of a theocracy in America.

I don't care whether Mitt Romney is a Mormon. I didn't care that John kerry was Roman Catholic. Frankly, I wouldn't care if Ron Paul worshipped fir trees! I do care how each would govern and how he...or she...would lead this country. Period.

To me, the choice of one's religion is as personal as the choice of underwear: I'm happy with my Calvin Kleins, I don't want to see yours and I CERTAINLY don't want to wear yours!

  • Focus, People, Focus!

[Read the article: Here comes the Suntech]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

While George W. Bush squanders America's cash on an unjustified war, tax-breaks for his patrons and sweetheart giveaways to his pals, America's money for research and development of alternate energy sources evaporates. It's no wonder that we are in decline and becoming totally irrelevant.

I half expect that, by 2020, the phones at the White House will be answered by a guy named Rajiv in Mumbai, India.

  • Right Message; Wrong Headline

[Read the article: Iraq taught us nothing]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The headline SHOULD read "Iraq Taught BUSH Nothing"; the rest of us already were well-informed about "foreign entanglements and phony wars".
