Having lived in Palm Beach, the vississitudes of daily life in Century City, just west of West Palm Beach, are well-known. (Century City was so-named because of the average age of the denizens.) Their complaints about the Democratic primary simply join the litany of their daily kvetching.
The Dem's decision not to participate in Florida's primary-on-the-move was to be expected. The date should not have been changed. However, if the Republicans think that they have an opening because the alta kakas are feeling dissed, they should disabuse themselves of that notion.
New York Jews traditionally vote Democratic; I see no reason why they won't continue to support the nominee(s) of the party now...even on a different date.
Now, as to the fact that they are a garroulous lot, local lore has it that a waiter, approaching a table of ten Century City-ites, asked simply: "So, folks...was ANYthing good"?
Oh, happy happy, joy joy: the military have joined the Republicans and, judging by General Peter Pace's bleatings, the Religious Right, as well. An amalgam of politics plus religion plus military is just what we need in America.
Be prepared for the "Star-Spangled Banner" being replaced by "Onward, Christian Soldiers" as the national anthem.
The energetic give-and-take of the Dems is what a tussle for the nomination is all about, but...I just wish that they weren't quite so vicious about their differences; I wish they would take on Dubya and Satan (Cheney) more than each other.
You can bet that the Repooplicans are loving it and you can count on some of those comments being used against the Demo nominee in '08 in those ubiquitous attack ads.
Of course, what's good for the goose...I'm sure that my fellow Demo advertising warriors have enough from the Repooplicans for years to come.
Legendary entertainer Bill Cosby has enraged some in the black community by expressing his displeasure with how more than a few members of his black community act: violence against each other, rampant misogny, unrestrained breeding outside marriage and a propensity for being more likely to end up in prison than college for young black men are major problems. White people are NOT the causes of that pandemic within the black community, either.
Those are facts. As a non-member of that black community, I don't dislike them for what they are...but, for what they do. And, for that, I make no apology. That isn't being a racist...that's being a realist.
But, blaming whites for the continuing failure of SOME, not ALL, in the black community is a canard and a red herring; we are all responsible for our own actions...color not-with-standing. Claiming "victimhood" every time for one's failures gets tiresome when repeated ad infinitum.
I don't care for the reverse racism I get on a regular basis..."white mother f*cker, paleface, p.w.t. (poor white trash, cracker"...from blacks for NO reason (my new car? my nice house? my preppy clothes? who knows?); it's no wonder I'd rather be around other whites...even those with whom I have nothing in common other than melanin.
All due respect, but, by your responses, you have refuted nothing that I wrote...you simply wrote a litany of "well, white people do blah, blah, blah".
Sorry, deering, I stand by my posting.
After the latest Demo debate:
Hillary: Deftly nuanced and thoughtful answers to "gotcha" questions.
Obama: Nice guy, but, still not ready for prime-time...this election.
Biden: Good ideas...for the 1988 election.
Dodd: The yin to CT's other Senator Lieberman's yan.
Kucinich: ET...phone home!
Others: There were others?
Those of us in Philly are raped daily by too many criminals, too few police, too many nasty Parking Authority people, aggressive drivers who run over you on the expressways, expressways that were designed in the '50s and haven't been updated, unscrupulous landlords raising rents because buying a house is so difficult today, outrageous food prices, having a State liquor store more reminiscent of a Soviet-style establishment, having to purchase a full case of beer at "beverage shops" rather than a six-pack at a convenience store/supermarket and wages that are a joke.
Tell the prostitute to get in line...
I continue to be enraged by the comments, opinions, positions and thrust of the comments of our, supposedly, apolitical military. For them, in the person of General Petraeus, to lobby for a particular political or religious philosophy or bias is anathema to the concept of a separation of church, state and military.
General Petraeus, like General Peter Pace, may hold personal opinions on any subject he wishes; what he and others may NOT do, however, is to express those opinions or biases as official policy of the United States of America.
If we're headed toward an Iranian-style government with an Ayatollah-cum-Revolutionary Guard scenario, let me know now; I have that application for political asylum in Canada almost finished.
