[Read the article: Another bad week for John McCain]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Honestly, domini, these McCain flubs were the ONLY thing on television last night -- and nobody, not even me, watches TV on Friday nights. So...McCain had a terrible week, and I'm interested in hearing what people think/worry he could do to change things up. Because I personally don't really see anything, given his being ideologically in chains. But I'm sure I'm missing something, since I thought John Kerry couldn't lose after a certain point.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Wow, Klytus, I agree with everything you just said. It makes me wonder why you don't reason rather than so often just rhyme and insult. Because you just made a lot of sense.
Or did someone just break into your house? Should we be calling the police?
What would we all do if we thought we witnessed a crime online?

[Read more letters about this article: Here]AKA Smith, excellent points. I particularly agree that no adult should be embarrassed to talk about birth control. I'm not someone who thinks having children gives you special knowledge or privilege, but my first reaction, watching that, was: He has all those kids! How could this question make him so nervous?
I know this is a silly thing to say, in a way, but he just seems so unready for prime time. So often.

[Read the article: Ask the pilot]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Wow, I've never jumped into the pilot's thread before, it feels strange but...I just got back from vacation! And actually, nothing terrible happened this time, in fact, I stupidly "snuck" some items through screening that, exactly a year ago, at the same airports, got taken away from me, when I forgot they were in my bag, and thrown away. (Stupidly expensive sunscreen and hair conditioner. The truth hurts, but it matters.)
Rather than feeling relieved, I felt just insanely irritated. The inconsistency is part of what's so abusive, but also, it's just the abuse! Even though nothing was taken away this time, it was the indignity of, at one airport, take off the shirt you have over your tanktop, at the other, the shirt is fine; and yes, overall, it's just the indignity of people pushing you around, because they can. Like others on this thread, I looked at people rushing their jackets into bins after being barked at, and chiding their children for not taking off their watches, and thought, Are we sheeple?
Sigh. Thanks, Patrick!

[Read the article: Another bad week for John McCain]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Awww, softdog, calm down. Really, isn't it interesting to think about? I have more faith in Obama than a lot of die-hard Obama supporters; I honestly don't see how he loses, which is, sadly, why he's taking his progressive base for granted. But I'm also interested in how others see things differently.
John McCain doesn't use a computer, so he's not going to read my blog. Relax! And let's approach the next few months with intellectual honesty and curiosity; we all have a lot to learn. I've certainly learned from you.

Night, everyone!

[Read the article: Another bad week for John McCain]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Independence_2008, I clearly don't need to pick fights or try to rile people up. Seriously, why would you ask that? I am genuinely curious; I can't really think of a rationale for McCain's campaign at this point or a way he can right himself...but that breeds overconfidence in Democrats -- I certainly thought John Kerry would win this time 2004 -- so I wanted to ask people what they thought. I don't think of this as a place where people expect to be preached at; I'm really surprised it was a controversial question. But thanks for asking.
And yes, it's true, I get a dollar for every idea I send over to the McCain camp. Kidding!

[Read the article: The ultimate family DVD list]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Great list, Andrew. "Dumbo" was Nora's favorite as a tiny child -- I went away for a weekend to a cousin's wedding, and when I came back she'd make me rewind it so she could watch the "Baby Mine" sequence over and over -- still one of the most poignant memories I have! I've never left her since, and she's 18. Kidding.

She also loved "The Secret Garden" -- at 5 or 6, fwiw.
But yes, we want the runners up, too!

[Read more letters about this article: Here]OK, I said goodnight a long time ago, but I'm enjoying the AKA and Klytus Show, thank you both! And Klytus, we're also side by side on the Family DVD thread. Yes we can! OK, goodnight now, really.

[Read the article: The ultimate family DVD list]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Wow, this list just keeps getting better. Some posters reminded me of a time when intergenerational movies were crucial to our family -- we had just moved from NY to Milwaukee in 1972, my siblings and I were 13, 12 and 7, and we were mostly hanging out with my grandmother in a hotel for 5 days while our parents got the house in order. Just on TV we were lucky enough to have A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, A Patch of Blue, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner and Raisin in the Sun -- social issues and tragedy in black, white and Irish-American (A Tree Grows in Brooklyn was my mother's favorite movie growing up). We were enthralled.
Oh, I would also add Into the West and one of my favorite movies ever, Elf. It's not just for Christmas!

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Thanks, Juliebird. We'll post the whole speech as a separate story file, so people can decide for themselves.
