Shazzer4400

who mentioned this in his/her post up above: 'Where are the fathers? Why does the taxpayer have to prop these women up? They have zero incentive to get married, because then they would lose their benefits; however, there is always a man around. He gets a free place to crash in exchange for providing cash for things like a plasma TV, a nice car, meals out, etc.'

If the government won't prop up these non-functioning American citizens, who will? Certainly, they are living a 'life' (and subjecting their kids to it) that you & I would never want to live. However, since these people are totally unfit to get a normal job here in the USA, circa 2008, they have to get some type of assistance to stop them from either starving to death or starting a crime ring ala Fagin in 'Oliver!'.

The money being 'wasted' on them is chump change. We spend so much more money on Iraq, military, bailing out multi-millionaires that (IMO) complaining about these losers getting their government pittence borders on a insane-hatred-of-poor-losers and/or racism/classism of some type.

Or maybe you're just envious of their carefree lifestyle ;-)

I Feel a Twinge of Sympathy

for Mistltoe's (oops, Bristol's) young future husband (Luke?) who it seems is being fasttracked to marriage (probably not a 'shotgun' marriage up there, more like a Wetherby .375 express marriage).

He's also getting into a family with a bunch of fundy, dramaqueens/kings. Boy, they'll be alot of fun once she & the gang slink back to Methsilla.

hyblaean

Have you ever thought that Gov. Palin might actually set your cause back, if she was elevated to a position way beyond her capabilities?

Assume for a moment that McCain/Palin wins & then about a year later Pres. McCain dies & now we have Pres. Palin.

She then goes on to make us all wish for the halycon days of GWB.

That scenario could set your cause back decades. IMO, you are focusing too much on one position & one candidate. The Green Party has made the same mistake, going off on Don-Quixotelike quests for the Presidency when they should be focused on electing city councilmen, representatives, state senators, etc.

Only by flourishing at the bottom, can you have the sound base to reach for the stars (no, I'm not Kasey Kasem, but it sounded good :-) ).

Good Point, eidos

Why didn't she just name a few local papers? 'Let's see Katie, I read the Anchorage Advocate, the Juneau Planet, and the Wasilla Tweaker. That last one is a weekly paper.'

Surely, making up a few would have been a better answer.

I think she is weirder than we all think or fear.

who said: 'McCain - I believe he stayed in prison for the morale of the troops under his command. He was the senior officer.'

Sen. McCain was an O-3 when he was in captivity with what were about 90% flight officers of the USAF, Navy & Marine Corps.

I can assure you he was not 'the senior officer'.

I think he didn't take the early release, because he was already contemplating a future career in politics & knew that his receipt of special favors from the NVA would not play well in Peoria.

The Screaming Steam Hammers of Hate

agree with you here, latest incarnation of Electro Robot, etc.

Those jittery cameras make me physically ill.

Like the phrase you've chosen for your latest handle. Sounds like something Bill Safire would have dreamed up for Spiro to say.

To the LW

I'm so sorry for your loss. Try to think about how your father would have wanted you to go on & live your life. He loved you & knows you mourn him, yet he would probably also say that crying won't bring me back & I want you to be happy.

Easier said than done, I'm sure. God bless you.

Original article: "Blindness"

Sounds Like...

'Children of Men'. Except everyone goes blind, instead of people not being able to make kids.

I predict you'll see many other variations of this over the next few years (people can't walk, people can't hear, everyone is aging superfast, etc).

I hereby copyright the above ideas, BTW. (so don't get any ideas, Hollywood producers).

I Agree, mizbinkley

that the Gov. didn't seem particularily somber when she was riffing on how her hypothetical administration might differ from Sen. McCain's (which is looking more & more hypothetical itself).

Sounds Good to Me!

I want the majority leader to be someone who doesn't worry at all about being re-elected. That is Sen. Reid's problem. He is in a leaning-red state (Nevada) & can't really carry water for us Democrats due to him having to kiss a little ass to the Repub voters he feels he needs to win re-election.

Sen. Clinton is basically Senator-for-Life in New York & can better articulate our positions & advance them without having to worry about a credible GOP challanger (or their wacko voters).

Certainly, if not Sen. Clinton then maybe Sen. Kerry or someone else who is in a true-blue state.

Glad That was Cleared Up

Evidently, Sara Palin has the Mormon woman vote locked up. Who'da thunk it?

Hey had_enough

who asked: 'Can someone tell me though..did she manage to mention "Sexual Personae" again? She mentions it in every column, I wondered if she somehow snuck it in there again.'

Very surprisingly, no. She did not mention her tome. I think this might be first column in 12 or 13 that she forgot to plug the book.

I think she was overcome with the vapors for Gov. Hotbody.

Susan Wood

I should've known she'd plug something! Thank's for mentioning that. I find it hard sometimes to closely read every line of hers (my brain is saying 'teh stupid, it burns!!').

Original article: Under the big top

Well, We All Know

how liberal they are up in Alaska. A veritable commune of marxist cadres nursing their double moose mocha lattes & plotting the libel of 'America's Sweetheart (tm)'.

Nope, if those commies in the Alaskan Supreme Soviet say the Republican governor abused her office, then God-fearing voters everywhere (but especially in swing states) can totally disregard their vile pro-Obama propaganda (so says the McCain Ministry of Truth).
