More Xrandadu

Boy, I love this line too: 'But sure, people should read the whole thesis if they want to know, first-hand, for absolute certain, that Michelle Obama is not advocating that white people all be rounded up and imprisoned and then turned into Soylent Whitey.'

Soylent Whitey!! I jsut about spit up my coffee on that one. I'm going to use that one myself when debating with the Repub dipshits at my office (hope you don't mind).

The Way the Quote Reads

indicates that Sen. Obama was referring to his unnamed VP pick when he said 'he'.

I think he would have used 'it' when referring to our current VP Darth Cheney.

Original article: No transwomen allowed

Given the Current Administration,

the real reason is probably something as petty as they believe all trans-gendered people are Democrats (whereas before they thought ex-special forces David was naturally a Republican) & they ain't giving a CS job to a Democrat if they can possibly help it.

Nick

You are correct that the 'DFHs' didn't do any of those odious things you mentioned several pages ago.

However, if you read Mr. Perlstein's excellent book 'Nixonland' you will see that some dedicated but very naive young people failed to understand the propaganda ramifications of some stunts they did in those times.

Evil POS's like Roger Ailes & his ilk were able to selectively twist certain incidents to the point where they really hurt the Democratic party.

I urge you to read the book, but I warn you for a liberal it is not a pleasant read.

That was an excellent rant, BTW.

wlegro

Have you read Mr. Perlstein's book 'Nixonland'?

If you haven't, then you don't know what I'm talking about.

I fully understand the right wing wackjobs will yipe & holler & try to smear us whatever we say or do.

We shouldn't make it easy for them. Read the book. Let's just say it was a target rich environment for your GOP polemicists back then.

I Like Mike

Would have made a fine president. He's wrong though about us never hearing about Junior if he'd won.

I'm sure we would have read about him from time to time at websites like TheSmokingGun.com & drunklosers.com

Shades of Nixonland

I'm just finishing up the book now (depressing read for a liberal, but I urge everyone to read it) & Nixon loved it when he was heckled by anyone who didn't look like Mr & Mrs Joe Friday.

There's even a situation where he was heckled by some members of Vietnam Vets Against the War at a closed republican speech & it turned out that all the hecklers had received personal invitations to the speech!

It wouldn't surprise me if that was the case here.

If you are going to protest, you MUST look like the most whitebread American taxpayer ever. Anything else, they use you as a kook.

micro ms.

I don't watch Will & Grace, so I don't have a picture in my mind of the character you compared her (Palin) to. I do think she sorta looks like Tina Fey's older frumpy sister.

What do you think?

mico ms.

Thank you for the link. I see what you're saying. She does look like the Karen character.

Good call.

Provisional Ballots

'Well, that's all for now' asked about them.

IMO, whether they are looked at or not usually depends upon the closeness of the race.

If candidate 'A' is ahead of candidate 'B' by 5,000 votes & they have 4,000 provisional ballots, then there is no way candidate 'B' can win race, even if he/she gets all the provisional votes.

In that case, they will be counted at a later date.

It is only in a very close race, where the provisional ballots could make difference, that they have to be counted ASAP. They can also stop counting them (right away, that is), once it bacomes apparent that there aren't enough remaining votes to overcome a lead.

Lunatic Fringe

your saying that slavery was not the major reason the civil war happened certainly comfirms your handle.

The main 'states right' that the Southern states that seceded wanted was the ability to override federal law & maintain slavery.

Nice try, though.

To Advocatus

who said this above: '(the only difference between being a slave in Georgia and a factory worker in Massachusetts was that the worker had to pay for his hovel)'

you are either completely wrong or you are being deliberately flippant about the supposed communality of a Northern factory worker with a Southern slave.

Google 'The Justinian Code' sometime & you'll see that slaves in Byzantium 1500 years ago had many more rights than a Southern slave.

The Northern Irish had it rough back then, but they had so many more rights (as a technically 'white' person) than a poor Southern slave that your above assertion is laughable.

Some of your other points in regards to tarriffs, etc. have some merit, but the main 'States Right' (the one that had John Calhoun and his ilk in a frenzy) was the right to not follow U.S. federal law & maintain human beings in indentured servitude for LIFE.

The fact that Pres. Lincoln did not initially play up the slavery angle has nothing to do with why the Southern states seceded.

Tax Rates for Dummies

I read where Billy O'Loofa was whining about his taxes. Boo hoo.

I wish Sen. Obama and/or Sen. Biden would succinctly explain that the U.S. gets a certain amount in tax revenue from individuals (separate from Corporations). That amount will never go down. So, if the tax rates on the richest people are lowered, that money has to be made up from somewhere.

Guess whose tax rates rise to offset the lowering of the tax rates on those who can most afford to pay taxes?

I think even the 'Walmart shopping pumas' who have been infesting the site today can wrap their pretty little heads around that.
