Cabdriver

Thank you for your kind comments. I also thought your initial comments (and follow-ups not directed at me) were spot-on.

The reason many of the 60s protests were fruitful had to do with the regular Joes and Janes who came down & marched & outnumbered our hippie bretheren who protested along with us. Also the great size of some of them showed the media & the politicians that these ideas were shared by alot of people who could be counted on to show up at the polls.

Have to keep on keeping on & I appreciate all your efforts.

Me too, Naschbac

who said: 'I continue to be trawling the depths of utter disbelief when I'm forced to confront the reality that, in this entire neo-conservative siege on the United States of America, John Ashcroft --of all people-- has been often a lone voice of principle and counter-balance in a sea of otherwise wholly unscrupulous chatter'

How bad is it really when John Freaking Ashcroft is the voice of fairness & respect for the law & is marginalized by the rest of this criminal administration?!

It sorta scares me (to be honest).

To Cab305

who said about voiceovers in 'Blade Runner': 'The voice over was Hollywood pencil necks scared people wouldn't get it. The voice over is retarded and completely useless, it's supposed to be a thriller. Hence confusion.'

I'm going to have to disagree with you, the voiceovers gave some snippets of backstory that thus allowed the movie to be under 2 1/2 hours long.

Personally, I would want someone to 'get' my movie & maybe the pencil necks knew what they were doing (in this instance).

No problem with you disagreeing, glad to see someone who's not afraid of giving their unvarnished opinion.

Missing the Point

Anna68 said: ' If they were dressed in neat little suits they could be ignored. They would not inconvenience you. They could not shame you.'

I agree that protestors are supposed to be 'annoying'. They are supposed to annoy legislators (not ordinary people). The way the 'annoy' them is if they can't be ignored or marginalized. That's what really annoys congressmen.

When the protestors points must be addressed, believe me that will annoy the shit out of the powers-that-be.

The Big Lie

Berlet68 gave this gem: '(Think that's BS? Try Googling Vo Nguyen Giap, who led the NVA forces in that war and who conceded that the Viet Cong would have given up if not for American Peaceniks.)'

That's a complete lie. The NVA was prepared to lose 3 or 4 times as many people as they did & go on for another 30 years. Gen. Giap was BSing whomever he told that to (if he even said anything like that).

Original article: Knowing me, knowing ABBA

ABBAriffic

One of the great pop groups of all time. Overdue to be sent to the Hall. Great vocals & lyrics (all done in a second language, think of U2 doing all their songs in German).

Greatest song, IMO, is 'Winner Takes it All'. 2nd Greatest is 'Take a Chance on Me', after that 7 or 8 could vie for 3rd.

Agree that 'Take a Chance on Me' would be a fine theme song for Sen. Obama.

Nice to see BS65 also appreciates ABBA. Makes him seem more like a regular person than he comes off in his daily screeds.

Oath to Der Furhrer

Ms. Taylor's sad testimony echoes the pleas of various Wehrmacht officers who explained that it was all Adolf Hitler's fault & none of their own for whatever war crimes they had committed since the furhrer had the forsight to make them swear a personal oath of allegience to him.

Therefore, if they got an order to kill all non-combatents in a particular town, well orders are orders...

Of course, those Wehrmacht officers really did swear a personal oath, Ms. Taylor only fervently wishes she could.

Good One, DrJay1966

I still get a chuckle at the antics of those fun loving 95,000 or so dipshits that voted for Nader back in Florida 2000.

Good times, good times...

A Billion on Your Back

Mikes Pace said: 'Just give me some Liu Xiang. That'll be fun to watch.'

Mr. Xiang will be under the most pressure of any Olympic athlete. Defending champion at 110m HH, set world record (since broken) in Athens. Beat the Americans (and everyone else) in a sprinting event we have dominated for over 60 years.

Our hurdlers (plus Cuban world record holder, etc.) burn to beat him on his home turf.

For me, it will be probably the most anticipated men's track event. I'm beginning to get stoked!

IMDb Movie List

Checked out their list of 250 greatest movies (with TDK holding down top spot). After scanning the list, I think the average voter is 12 years old.

I could list 18 or 19 'eh' movies on their list, but no 'Dr. Zhivago'. I think that says it all about the IMDb list.

Hope to see TDK this weekend.

Sorta Like Derby Did

not like 'Diddy did', Southpark fans. Ever since 2002, the Kentucky Derby has instituted 'security' precautions that have severely curtailed the amount of stuff one can bring into the infield (legally).

For awhile (until 2007), sunscreen was something that one could not bring in, unless you emptied the bottle into a clear ziplock type baggie. Trying to dispense the sunscreen from a clear plastic baggie will make you not want to put on sunscreen, IMO.

Finally, they decided to drop that & allow us to bring it in in the original containers. I doubt the rest of their contraband list will be relaxed, as they have a nice big 'general store' in the infield that sells styrafoam coolers & lots of the other things they won't let you bring in (all at Derby prices).

Glad to see Kentucky was ahead of the curve on this one.
