Lots of Conjecture

in the linked article. All that can be deduced from the evidence is that a number of males of certain ages were killed (for whatever reason) & buried there where they were found.

For all you know, there weren't any women with them (could have been a 'war party' on a plunder mission miles away from their homes. They never returned & life went on for the surviving members of the tribe). Or the implied women could have been the main course at a barbeque later on at some other location.

Certainly, men battle over women. No shit there. But, IMO, you can't take a group burial site of males killed over 5,000 years ago in neolithic times & extropolate that they died in some fight over women.

Could just as easily been the victims of some crude religious ritual.

A True American

Yes, yes, the Senator from Tel Aviv always puts Americans first when he makes his policy decisions. I'm sure the non-Jewish constituents of Connecticut sleep soundly knowing that ole Joe has their back (especially those with children fighting in Iraq for 'America').

Burr Trivia

DLF mentioned: 'That didn't work out so well in the election of 1800, which put TJ's nemesis Aaron Burr in the number 2 slot. Burr has gone down in history as the only sitting Vice President who actually aimed at and killed the guy he shot (that being his dueling partner Hamilton, the face on the $10 bill).'

Years ago, the pistols that Burr provided for the duel were evaluated & it was discovered that the pistol used by Hamilton had a hair trigger. Accounts of the duel stated that Hamilton fired his pistol first, in the air, and Burr then aimed at Hamilton & shot him.

Given what I've read about Burr, it is consistant (IMO) that he had the trigger set like that (hoping that Hamilton would screw up & waste his shot).

Sounds like something Karl would do.

Resonse to TheSimulacra

who opined: 'However, none of them actually saw what happened because they were ordered by Burr & Hamilton to look away from the duel as watching it happen would make them complicit in murder (dueling was illegal then).'

If you think that they all covered their eyes & no one (other than Burr/Hamilton) saw what happened, then you are a fool.

The tests I mentioned were done in the late 1980s sometime. I think I read them in a gun magazine (the printed kind).

Hamilton's side said that he purposely shot in the air because he was a magnanimous kind of guy & then the dastardly Burr refused to do the same & shot him.

What probably really happened (if Hamilton's trigger was set as I previously described), was that Hamilton was coming down with the pistol to take his aim at Burr & being nervous & not knowing how fine the trigger setting was, fired the pistol by accident. I think the report said that Burr's pistol did not have such a touchy trigger.

Cursing at Ref vs Cursing Around Ref

Speaking as a former ref, it depends upon the context in which the 'fuck' was uttered, IMO.

Random utterances of 'fuck' said as an exclamation or directed to a non-referee is OK.

A lament to me such as 'You're fucking killing us, blue' is OK too.

It is when you are using the 'fuck' as a form of characterization, such as 'You are a poor fucking excuse for a ref, blue' will get you a technical (from me, anyway).

I would like to hear exactly what Mr. Garnett said, but I would hope it was something really bad, directed at the referee & giving an opinion on his competence or trustworthyness before you T'd him up in such a charged atmosphere.

Thanks, djavier!

for posting a relevant quote from Schilling's blog (I won't give the POS a page hit, myself).

If what he relays is accurate, then the referee gave out a bad technical, IMO.

Sometimes, and this is not really OK, a ref will give a 'cumlative' technical after a player has danced close to the line repeatedly & you get POed. This is considered to be unprofessional, though (as you MUST keep your emotions in check when refereeing).

American Milage

I think I read in a car magazine that Mercedes put a larger engine in the ones they sell over here. In Europe, no one would take one on the autobahn (said the car magazine), but over here they felt the car needed a bigger engine for times when it was taken down an interstate.

Certainly could be wrong about this.

About the Squirrel

Although it masy have appeared to you that the squirrel jumped 3 feet in the air for no reason, I can assure you the squirrel had a reason for doing it.

Could have been a predatory bird (flying or on a branch) that you did not see. Could have been something in grass that startled it, could have been a type of display for another squirrel, etc. etc.

Excellent article. Enjoyed reading it.

I Wonder

if Gov. Jindal is Ok with this, because he knows his relatives in India will not be learning any of the creationist crap & thus will be even better situated to assume all the scientific jobs (which happen to pay very well).

First R Rated Movie!?

I'm sure someone else has already posted this, but the propaganda for this movie emphasized it was 'M. Night Shyamalan's 1st R rated movie!!'.

So now you have a M. Night Shamalamadingdong movie with some breasts & at least one verbal 'fuck'.

Yippie, let's go see it twice.
