Answer to Tony J.

As you probably know, we had broken the Japanese codes & thus pretty much knew what they were going to do all the time.

That info though was Top Secret during the war, thus when the wargames were going on, the U.S. forces could not rely on reading the opposing forces communications to win the wargames.

The stuff that back before the declassification we called 'luck' was really us knowing what they were going to do (thank God we knew).

SueNJ97

I'm relieved you feel sorry for those kids who have no choice but to attend a fake school.

Thursday, May 15, 2008 12:33 PM

Back to You, Sue

I do acknowledge that the parents have the right to send their kids to non-public schools. Who says they don't have the right?

I just think it is sad that the kids (who HAVE to do what their crazy parents want) are sent to a fake school which will probably ensure they end up working a BS job for the rest of their lives.

It is called 'empathy'.

I'll also note that if it gets to point that this 'young earth' crap is taught as science in a public school, then we're all hosed.

Nice Read

I hesitate to post a favorite, as it won't match up to all the great and/or obscure books my fellow posters have mentioned, but I thought 'A Soldier in the Great War' was a good read (learn alot about the Austrian/Italian front of WW I).

Appreciated hearing about some other books I'm going to have to read now.

Original article: Tom Brady's Giants cap

Sorta Tonedeaf

He's a great player & certainly can wear what he wants when he's not wearing a Cavs uniform, but to show up for a Cleveland Indians playoff game against the Yankees in a Yankees cap is not cool, IMO.

And you know 48 year old white guys are the gatekeepers of 'cool' ;-)

Not That Simple

HP said: 'So, Obama is right to concentrate on the coasts and his base. Run up the numbers and the rest follow. They are like people at the track who bet on the favorite right before post at 1:5 odds (like those who bet on Big Brown, they just want to say they were with the winner).'

Dude, in the presidential election it's not a direct popular vote. It is 50 state elections & you must win a certain number of states to have the electoral votes. If you win New Jersey by 10 million votes, you still only get the 18 or so electoral votes for NJ that you would get if you won it by 10 votes.

Sen. Obama needs to be competative with rural voters. I think he can & I think it will become easier when he gets to stand up beside McLame & show how much more competant he is.

After 8 years of Batshit McChimpy, voters are looking for competance.

Question for Andy

Great job as usual, Glenn. I wonder if you could ask Mr. Rosenthal a hypothetical question: What kind of error in an opinion piece would necessitate a correction being published in the Times?

Maybe you could give a few hypothetical examples, in order to try and establish a baseline.

I assume that some level of error would require a correction notice. Example: Saying Pres. Eisenhower served 3 terms & beat Kennedy in 1960. Certainly the previous absurd example would require a correction. I'm sure you could come up with a few that are less absurd but still would be agreed upon by almost all sane people to be factual errors (maybe our fellow posters could provide some good examples).

Original article: Bulls come up Rose's

It Looked Like

Fred wanted to strangle the bear when they ended up with the 3rd pick. I thought the Bull's VP did a good job getting the season ticket number out in his 20 sec interview.

Needs to Help Obama

I'm on record as saying I'm fine with an Obama - Clinton ticket. But, she needs to wrap up shop & start helping out Obama tout suite to actually have that happen, IMO.

Sad

that anyone who watched someone do that to a poor defensless animal wouldn't wait for the SOB to fall asleep & then fuck them up.

As Obvious as the Day is Long

The pundit class wanted the Iraq war. Depending upon the person, there were differing reasons, but in the end, they all wanted our American troops in Iraq & not in Afganistan.

It was more important to them to get rid of a tin-pot Arab dictator than it was to bring to justice the wannabee Arab Lex Luthor who murdered over 2,500 American civilians.

I wonder why that was...

Because He Kissed Their Ass (with Tongue)

Debpet wondered: '(I never have understood exactly WHY the press liked Bush and disliked Gore so much, but that's nother issue.) People ought to have been able to see through what was going on, but too many didn't.'

Bush & his team of handlers (mostly the team) did a great job of fluffing the press. They wined & dined them & never turned down a request for some stuff to put in a story (if they liked the person doing the asking).

Another reason, and Glenn needs to look into this IMO, was that they made presentations to the rich ones showing them how much money they would save under Bush. If you are making > $500,000 a year (as many of the TV sockpuppets do), the savings were a 'significant amount of money'.

VP Gore should have done more fluffing himself during his 8 years in power.

Because Gregory Still has to Work with Them

thomas C asked: 'Given Gregory's admirable willingness to himself directly confront McClellan at the time with McClellan's own involvement in disseminating manifestly false denials of Rove's and Libby's role in outing Plame, shouldn't Gregory have instead confirmed McClellan's perception and stated unequivocally that Rove and Libby had in fact impaired McClellan's credibility? Why was it necessary for Gregory to couch this observation in a way that suggested that McClellan's perception was merely his own?'

Mr. Gregory (IMO) couched his phrasing & probably censored himself due to the fact that he still has to try & get info from the sleazoids employed by the White House & probably felt they would do whatever they could to minimize him if he wholeheartedly agreed with McClellan's assertions.
