That Snow Plow

I was stationed down in Miani back when the Patriots won that infamous game & You're not joking, King, when you say Shula is still mad about that one. The Miami Herald had about 2 weeks worth of teeth gnashing commentary & since then, the Dolphins & Patriots have been hated rivals.

I personally don't think the referee should have allowed the spot to be cleared by a mechanical device (it is illegal now).

Long Term vs Short Term

Lune99 said this up above about Japanese auto makers: 'Their planning horizons are measured in *decades* not financial quarters. And they continuously train their managers and their workers to so that their output is always improving.'

Excellent point! When I was taking economics back in college (generally a pretty boring course), our instructor (and this is c. 1980) was contrasting the management strategies of Japanese companies with American ones.

He said that an advantage for the Japanese companies was that they were always thinking & planning for 'the Long Term' (which he described as being decades), whereas American companies almost always planned for 'the Short Term' (defined as being 6 months).

He said that fact was due to most Japanese stock being controlled by very large banks and the American stock being controlled primarily by small shareholders (as opposed to a bank) who could not/did not want to wait long for profits.

I think that still holds true for today. In that case, Detroit automakers seem to be fucked.

Right On, Lynx!

I think Lynx has somew very good points that he/she expounded upon to RunRun23. Whatever the Pats did, (and the fact that we don't actually know how they performed their cheating & exactly what aspect of it ran afoul of NFL rules, etc.) it was a well thought out & intricately planned operation that also went on in prior seasons (I'm sure).

I also feel they should have had to forfeit the Jets game.

I don't feel the commissioner handled this one well, too many things seemingly swept under the rug (move along now, all cleaned up...nothing to see).

The fact is that as technology improves you are going to have a time when it would be possible for an unscruplious (hope I spelled that right) person to put nano spying devices into places no one would have thought possible (and with the huge budgets some of these teams have, they'll be able to get any available technology they want).

So, I feel the commissioner should have come down like a ton of bricks on the Patriots to 'make an example' of them to hopefully stop any other team from exploring the 'scouting thru spying' angle the Patriots seem to have been on.

Terminology

MILF is generally a complementary term. I took her use of it to mean the woman is attractive (certainly, if she was a drug rep she would be).

You would rprobably rather be described as a MILF, instead of a MIWFWBD (IMO).

How About...

goeswithness said about MILF: 'It's insulting to women in general, as a similar term would be to men in general; but if there is an equivalent term, I've never heard it.'

DILF (Dad I'd Like to F**k) I'm sure it has already been coined, but if not, please give proper attribution :-)

Give Em Hell, whitecat!

I second your opinion. If you don't vote for whomever has (D) after their name in this next general election, you are either a fool or a piece-of-shit Republican.

Reality Based Liberal

Thank you for your concerns. I think reality dictates that we have a Democrat in the oval office come 2009. Any of the 3 will fit the bill (certainly there are valid reasons to be debated among us about which one would be the best).

I like Sen. Obama best, but I have no major problems with either Sen. Edwards or Sen. Clinton & I will happily campaign for either of them.

I stand by my assertion that people who would only vote for one of the three & would either not vote at all or vote for the Republican or a minor party nominee are either fools or Republicans who are happy with the last 7 years.
