A Super Bowl Appearance

jumpyd lamented the Falcons: 'The Falcons, however, are still searching for their Schuerholz. Every move made by someone in charge of the Falcons is destined to failure.'

Speaking as a Cleveland Brown's fan: We still haven't been to a Super Bowl (old Browns or new Browns) & the Falcons have, so at least you got that feeling (at least until your DB solicited that fake hooker).

New Math

Rich commented: 'This year we had 30 bowl games? That means 30 teams get to brag that they had a bowl game, and 15 of them get to brag they won their bowl.'

Rich, I'm sure you realize it by now, but there's a winner in each bowl game. Understand the point you were trying to make (it's just that I'm a programmer & sorta anal about stuff like this ;-) ).

No Problem

Gttim posted: 'It was hanging there like a soft pitch up in the strike zone. I had to hit it! I would have said it about any college!'

You're fine dude. No offense taken. I thought your comment was pretty funny :-)

NVA Fake Broadcasts

LVM back a ways commented about the NVA making fake broadcasts to our troops in Vietnam: 'The whole thing about the accents is one of the silliest things I think I've read so far. Lord Haw Haw didn't sound like Col. Klink or Sargent Schulz and the NVA soldiers who managed to do this, probably with a Soviet advisor's help'

I snipped the excerpt you provided below that quote, but when I was in the USAF back in early 80s I attended classified briefings where this was discussed. We never assumed a Soviet advisor helped, there were plenty of talented NVA who could speak colloquial English.

I cannot provide any more detials, as that still may be technically classified.

Auchwitz not Only Death Camp

Jim White commented on this: 'They had multiple camps and it would have been nothing for them to rebuild their ovens and gas chambers. Not exactly high technology.'

I can't name them all, but 1 million were killed at a camp called Belzec. The commander was named Christian Wirth & has always been one of the most sought after Nazi war criminals. He is probably presumed dead by now (a pity we couldn't hang him).

Mr. Bebop

I having a hard time getting something nice out of: 'Paul may go to shoe horses as a gop furrier? shoo.~.

Paul may be a stable manure shovel-boy who forks crap?'

Were you joshing with me or are you jeering me (I can't tell)?

Fine if you are jeering me (just be ready to get it back).

Don't Compare Them

LWM I have no particular problem with you or the majority of your plentiful posts, but this snippet: 'So did Hitler. So did Huey Long.' pisses me off.

Don't compare Huey Long to Adolf Hitler. Sen. Long was a flawed individual, but to mention him in the same breath as a murdering sicko such as Hitler is beneath you.

Only a Severe Beating

beuchel asked: 'how many blacks were lynched for voting, and where? women could not vote in most of the u.s. when my mother was born (1917)-- black men could.'

IMO, 'Attempted Voting While Negro' was not a lynching offense. They just beat the shit out of you & sent you on your way.

Yes, it was so much easier being a black man in 1917 than being a white woman.

About Baltimore

Clivesl asked the city: 'Oh, and Baltimore, you think Cleveland feels the same way about you as you feel about Indy? Just curious how you justify that theft to yourselves.'

Speaking on my own behalf (Browns fan), and not Cleveland's, we hate that piece of shit Art Modell way, way more than we hate the city of Baltimore.

When Irsay took the Colts away, the team was not drawing very well (on account of it sucking) & the stadium was a little bandbox (as stadiums go).

When Modell (may he die an excruciating death) took our Browns, we were selling out a 76,000 seat stadium every home game. He had money problems, but not due to our support. So, Modell had much less reason to move the team than Irsay did (IMO).

That Last Season for Browns (Version 1.0)

Lynx commented about when the Browns left Cleveland 'And the Browns were having a great year when he moved them too. People were talking Superbowl. Then he announced mid-year that he was moving the team at the end of the season and that was all she wrote.'

A very good friend of mine (who's a much bigger Browns fan than I) was in the Dog Pound for that last home game. He said it was a surreal affair, with very angry Browns fans breaking into expletive filled anti-Modell chants (one of the tamest: 'Rot in Hell, Art Modell'). Most everyone was drunk off their ass.

He said he had no doubt that had Modell somehow appeared there in the stands, they would have ripped him limb from limb & danced around with his entrails.

Who's Going to Stop Them

Lynx asked about memento removal at last old Browns home game: 'Am I remembering this incorrectly? Were fans allowed to rip up the stands after the last season?'

Given the feelings that were running that day, I don't think they asked for permission.
