Thank's for explaining it in 'Senospeak'. Maybe we can get Sen. Hatch on our side by making him think that when we're waterboarding someone, it's really just a rehersal session for some kinky porn.

  • Vikings vs Indians

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Mikes Pace asks: 'Why are the Indians any worse than the Vikings? (if it's because of our historical connection, I suggest a mass exodus back to Europe would be a better gesture than restitching baseball hats - that is - if you really cared about it, as opposed to just delivering liberal lip-service)'

The difference is that all these nicknames (Vikings & Indians & others) were thought up by white people on teams owned by white people.

Thus, the white person (to me) is entirely within their rights to name a team after one of their own ethnic groups/stereotypes, but is 100% wrong when they appropriate another ethnic group's stereotypes without giving that ethnic group any say in the matter.

Especially an ethnic group which has been just about wiped out by white people (long dead white people, but white nevertheless).

That might be too nuanced for our buckeye friend.

  • Question re Dodd Contribution

Does anyone know what Sen. Dodd's campaign mail address is? I will send a check by mail, but I do no business online.

Thank you for the address. Appreciate your help.

  • Apples & Oranges, Jonathan

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Mr Weiss asked: 'What do we do with the Boston Celtics, Fighting Irish of Notre Dame, the Quakers from Pennsylvania, the Vancouver Canucks, the Angels of Los Angels, the Engineers from Geogia Tech, the Pirates from Pittsburgh,Giants, Titans, the Indian highschools whose nickname is Native, former nicknames of Trolley Dodgers, champion baskedball teams like the Philadelphia Hebrews?'

You might refer to my previous post in this thread, but all the examples you gave involve the ethnic group controlling the team & naming it for some stereotype or subset of their own ethnic group.

Boston Celtics (owned by whites, named for a white ethnicity), Penn Quakers (college founded by whites, named for an almost-all white religious group), Vancouver Canucks (owned by whites, named for slang used to refer to Canadians, who are 95% white), Georgia Tech Engineers (college founded by whites, no particular ethic connotation, but 'Engineer' is a vary valued workplace title), Pittsburgh Pirates (owned by whites, name alludes to various famous English pirates, almost all white).

I could go on & on, but I hope you get my point.

  • Not How I Remember it, AKA Smith

[Read the article: Guilty of murder or seeming unmatronly?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

AKA Smith commented in reference to the murderer Susan Smith: 'Susan Smith cried her eyes out on national television while making appeals for her babies' return.'

If I remember correctly (& I certainly could be wrong), Ms. Smith made a show of apparently crying (i.e. the sounds & facial contortions), but she never had any tears running down her face.

I noticed this at one of her press conferences & it made me suspicious of her. There's probably tape of those somewhere.

When a presumably cherished child is apparently snatched away, there are emotional responses which I believe 99% of innocent parents engage in. When someone doesn't 'hit the mark' as it were, it should be a point to be explored by the investigating agency.

Nola1971, you sound like you should get together with BrightStar65 & then you both could make some BrightNola2036s.

  • Please Educate Me

[Read the article: Ellen, the dog bullies and me]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I do not understand how the private rescue group Ms. DeGeneres got Iggy from can take the dog back once Mr. DeGeneres gave the dog to another person.

I know they signed some form of contract, but legally an animal is property and I thought that once Ms. DeGeneres became the owner, she could dispose of the dog in any manner she saw fit (excluding illegal, cruel treatment/death).

Thus, to me, the portion of the contract that presumably allowed them to reclaim the dog would be unenforcable (due to Iggy being Ms. DeGeneres' property).

Was she legally 'renting' Iggy for a period of time before she actually became his 'owner'?

  • Gee Whiz, Handlebar

That was a wicked putdown, calling me a dipstick. I guess one can't make a tongue-in-cheek comment anymore without getting called a a small part of a vehicle.

I read most of your letters & I do agree with the vast majority of your expressed sentiments, except for your sick love for the Red Sox ;-).

As for the article's topic, I think if the child is wanted & the parent has the financial resources to take care of it (and is not a wacko), then the child would agree that it is better off being alive than not being alive & will be glad they were born.

  • How About the Kid

[Read the article: Happy birthday, Broadsheet!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Some anonymous coward posted: '3) Lorraine Michaels takes being a greedy, self-centered ex to a new level. Does she really think she deserves a cut of the chicken feed $20,000 a year Dail got for being wrongly imprisoned?'

IMO, the kid deserves some. He is the kid's father & raising said kid wasn't free.

'Epitome of our culture' evidently is John Williams (Star Wars music et. al. composer).

You might be confusing 'Hawkdriver' with the POS known as 'Hornetdriver'. The latter being a sleazoid crackpot.

This 'Hawkdriver' handle is not familiar to me.

  • Sound Advice

[Read the article: Plan B, RU-486 -- same difference, right?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'm always 'all ears' when a person who can never be in a relationship that would produce children & if they were, could afford 100 of them, is so eager to pass judgement on those who don't have the luxury of their own religion/religious minions to pay all their bills.

Don't worry about feeding/clothing that kid, Jesus will provide.
