Some Eyes Are Too Bad for Lasik

I don't know about the poor LW, but I have been advised not to do lasik correction as one of my eyes is 20/600 & that is considered to be risky surgery. It has been emphasized to me that there is a finite chance that my eyes could be worse after the procedure. Needless to say, I'll use my 19th century technology to continue to correct my vision.

Dennis was Better

The stats Mr. Kaufman lists are impressive, but my eyes say that Mr. Rodman was a more valuable player on his teams (Pistons, Bulls, maybe not Spurs though) than Mr. Owens. I think Mr. Rodman was at his best in his last years with the Pistons. I have seen him basically single-handidly win a key game (in early 90s, I think) against Mr. Olajuwon & the Houston Rockets by just defensively taking over the game in the last 2 or 3 minutes (blocking shots, getting all the rebounds, running down the court ahead of everyone on the fast breaks, etc.). I will say to Mr. Kaufman that it is close as Mr. Owens is a great receiving threat (a speedy wide receiver in a tight-end's body who will go over the middle). I personally think Mr. Rodman belongs in the Hall of Fame. Terrell Owens is heading for the HOF, but needs 2 or 3 more years (and a championship) of stellar play to cement his spot (IMO).

Why am I Here?!

In my opinion, anyone who obsesses over the 'why am I here' question or 'what is my purpose in life' is an narcissist. What does it matter why you are here? Who are you to say that 'you' must have a purpose for being here on Earth?

People should be happy that they are here, don't worry about the 'why' & try to live life to the fullest, because when it's done, it's done.

Fuck No, It's Not Alright to See Satanum as Boromir

The below poster does him/herself a disservice (let alone poor Boromir) to postulate that a slimy sactimonious prig such as Satanum could be compared to the character Boromir (who had more nobility in his snot than Satanum has in his whole body).

If you want to compare the soon-to-be-ex-senator with a Tolkien character, how about the Mouth of Sauron, or maybe Wormtongue.

Sheesh!

Sack Record

This post is probably not germane to King's column today, but I was reading recently where Mr. Strahan had set the NY Giants sack record, besting the total Mr. Taylor set years ago. It seems though that Mr. Taylor had a number of sacks that occurred when 'sacks' were not an official NFL stat, and thus his 'official team' total was less than what he actually got.

Anyway, my question is: Why can't the team go back and retroactively 'score' those games Mr. Taylor played in & come up with the number of sacks he had & add it to his team totals? After all, this is the NY Giant's record & not an official NFL record I'm talking about. I know all his games are on videotape. Anyone venture a guess on why they don't/can't do that?

The Modern Pharisees

If there is one particular group in the bible that Jesus rails against time & time again it is the Pharisees. Those establishment Jews who loved to make a spectacle of how righteous they were and reveled in public displays of their supposed piety. If you read your bible, you will see that Jesus considers these people to be hypocrites and justly damned for their lying & deceiving behavior.

I ask my Christian brothers and sisters: Can you see the parallel here today with Rev. Haggard (and maybe some others who 'love the Lord')? A man who proudly proclaimed his piety and railed against homosexual behavior, who it appears was secretly a homosexual (not that there's anything wrong with that).

I wish those who seem to bend over backwards to give someone the benefit of the doubt regarding their seif-proclaimed righteouness would ponder more on what Jesus' opinion was of those who did exactly the same thing when he was alive. You know, he was a keen judge of men and women.

Hypocracy They Name is Haggard

No surprise here, this 'leader of men' is about as pure as Elmer Gantry. I do hope sometime that Christian evangelicals will realize that those who brag the most about their piety are usually trying to drown the unwary in BS and that Jesus always castigated the braggarts & holier-than-thou types (they are called Pharisees in the New Testament).

What a Catch!

Mr. Kaufman didn't mention it in his wrapup of the Colts - Patriots game, but Marvin Harrison made one of the greatest catches I have ever seen (I'm 47) for a touchdown. Manning throws a bullet to the right side of the end zone before Harrison has even come out of his break & he sticks a hand out to deflect the ball & then comes up with the carom all while getting his 2 feet in when he was 4 or 5 inches from the out-of-bounds line & falling down to boot. Holy shit!
