All you folks taking these pill are not only drugging yourselves, but you excrete these drugs and they go right back into the water supply and dose all the living things in the water.
Why do fish and frogs need Prozac?
Is having only two sexes, male and female, not good enough? How are hermaphrodites supposed to reproduce anyway? Have you experienced any changes yourself in your libido or desire?
They still say they don't really know how these drugs work.
I think it has to do with the thyroid gland more than anything else.
Well let's start with the alleged mechanism of the anti-psychotics, the phenothiazines, and antidepressants, the tricyclics. For message to be sent, one neuron is triggered and releases neurotransmitters across the synaptic gap to another neuron where they fit into receptor sites, by way of both shape and charge, and this triggers the other neuron. That is how one neuron turns on another one. Then the neurotransmitter is allegedly recycled ready for the next triggering which also means that the neuron that it came from has been reset to the "off" position..
The first class of anti-psychotics/antidepressants "gum up the works" and block the receptor sites and is not easily recycled. The neurotransmitters fail to activate the receptor sites as they had before. One activated neuron fails to activate the next one. This slows down the nervous system and for the treatment of depression this yields a mind that is impaired enough not to think about or be aware of the problem or problems.
Both classes of drugs are a central nervous system depressants, one heavy and one light. A major problem with these is that after a while the nervous system adapts and produces more neurotransmitters and/or receptor sites in an attempt to regain function. This is what causes a rebound effect if the drug is stopped abruptly. An improved drug was desired.
Since the neurochemical serotonin is also similar in structure to numerous mind altering drugs which had been thoroughly researched and had euphoric effect, it was chosen to target for research.
The Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors operate on the alleged model of inhibiting the neurotransmitter, which has activated the next neuron in the chain of communication between nerve cells, from being detached from its receptor site and being recycled. Basically, once a neuron is activated, the activating neurotransmitter is not recycled and the system is stuck in the "on" position, or at least moreso than it was, of should have been, beforehand.
There is some debate about the mechanism.
So one wonder drug "gums up the circuit" and the other one sticks it in the on position. This is your nervous system we are talking about. Once you are on these drugs, your are not thinking straight and they want you to be on these drugs for life. What if all it is was a Jimson weed you brushed against? What if your life IS miserable? What if it is some virus or bacteria? How is sticking the switches in the off or on position a good idea?
Plus knowing that this stuff is based on insecticide technology really doesn't sit well with me. Unless the problem is parasitic worms in the brain as phenothiazine is a cattle wormer. If you have worms crawling in your brain, by all means get some. (just kidding, get a surgeon to cut them out, otherwise they may start to rot)
This is from conversations I had with famous pill pushers in the early eighties. They knew less about it than I did. I didn't even take a class.
That's the drugs talking!!!

Well that is precisely why I didn't mention those disgusting slimy creatures as they are most ungodly in more ways than I care to imagine.
Now tell me, exactly how long have you been watching slugs mate?
How does it make you feel?
I see.

You are nutz. After explaining it to Dr.Torrey and Dr.DuPont, my explanation appeared in NIMH literature. It hadn't been there before. Psychiatrists are not that birght, clever, inquisitive or motivated.
But who cares? The fact of the matter is that a whole lot of people are hooked on mind altering drugs that tend to impair thinking, ethics and emotions.
The same drugs also carry a lot of bad side-effects which cause more problems which is just what someone who has a mental problem doesn't need.
The commuter newspaper had a comic panel with a guy watching tv and the tv said,"Ask your doctor if playing into the hands of the pharmaceutical industry is right for you."
Enjoy the good hands of BIG PHARMA, they really care about you.
Your drugs want me to shut up. You can't handle the truth. Take some more pills and that will make it all better.
The worst part of these drugs is that they take someone who has a minor problem like depression and anxiety and turn it into a major problem like psychopathy, delusions and full on mania. Don't blame the people, it really is just a side effect of the drugs.
VA TECH, Columbine and most of the other school mass shootings involve people who are medicated, Before people were getting doped up this only happened once before in Austin at the University and that poor devil had a brain tumor. Now murder suicides by people on these drugs is so common that no one takes any particular note of it.
I remember the first such shooting when the drug was being tested before it was approved and there was a controversy before the drugs were approved and after all the concerns have been born out, no one cares. Why should they? They are medicated.
