toothless?
[Read the article: Iraq: Why the media failed]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If the press is "toothless" how do you explain what happened to Imus?
Oh yeah, they are providing a smokescreen to help bushco, fascists and the war profiteers get away with treason.

Why was he REALLY fired?
[Read the article: Firing Imus was the right thing]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Was it over that phrase use or was it because he was calling Bush and Cheney traitors?
Do you think Moonves cares more about, those basketball players or the president and vice president.
Who has more leverage with CBS?
Who can deny them access and talking heads?
Moonves and CBS don't give a damn about anything but money and power.
It was excuse to fire Imus for what they have been paying him to do in order to please those with power.
Imus should run for president with either Snoop Dog or Jayzee as a running mate - they's get more votes than Nader.
-
what happened to the last two pages of letters?
[Read the article: No more whining excuses]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Seems like as soon as the discussion turns to the real reason he was fired - BYE BYE!
It wasn't about the basketball players, it was about his unkinid and true words about bush and cheney.
Sorry Salon, my bad.
-
Sorry, i was wrong
[Read the article: No more whining excuses]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]My browser directed me to the wrong place.
Salon did no wrong and I appologize for thinking that it did.
I am however still disappointed with Mr. Conason.

the difference between Imus and the others
[Read the article: No more whining excuses]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The others have not been calling Bush and Cheney traitors.
The others will continue doing what they have been doing. As usual we are getting the lie instead of the truth.
-
it goes both ways
[Read the article: Kos gets a pass this week]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Misogyny, meet Misandry.
Oh, you say you aren't a misandrist? That's what most misogynists say as well.
Imus didn't get fired for uttering that unfortunately common phrase. He got fired for calling Bush and Cheney traitors. Aside from him being an old white guy, that is the only difference between him and those who remain unpunished, employed and confident that as long as they toe the party line that they have nothing to worry about except cashing their checks and how to spend all that money which is thrown at them.

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]That's raacist. If you are onm a team and someone attacks your teammates, sitting on the sidelines is not an honourable option.
Loyality, friendship and honour trump race. How come you don't know that?

Private contractors
[Read the article: Hearts and minds]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Private contractors are accountable to only those who pay them.
The current situation in Iraq is very profitable. Destabilizing Iraq and setting Sunnis against Shiites is an advantage to some parties. It is no mystery why someone let this happen.
It's called divide and conquer, it's just the order has been reversed. How many "sectarian" incidents of bombings and other attacks between the Sunnis and the Shiites come from third parties such as unregulated and unfettered paramilitary mercenary private contractors in the employ of defense contractors, foreign nationals and intelligence agencies?
You can bet that no one in the U.S. press will ever look into that.
This sort of thing didn't happen under Saddam Hussein yet the press paints a picture of these "uncivilized" people as always at each other's throats.
After hearing enough lies, one begins to assume that whatever is said by the government and the press is exactly the opposite of what is really happening and what is really true.
If peace came to Iraq and the Sunnis and the Shiites embraced each other then the gravy train for the defense contractors would end.
We can't have that.
"Someone set us up the bomb."
"All your base are belong to us."
Al qaeda means base, database, foundation and toilet.
All qaeda belongs to U.S.A..
"You are on the way to destruction."
Sounds about right, doesn't it?
"You have no chance to survive make your time."
Sounds about right, doesn't it?
This phenomena hit big in early 2001 and the Lone Gunmen pilot episode with the plot to fly a remotely controlled passenger jet into the world trade center to benefit arms merchants and defense contractors was aired in March of 2001.
No conspiracy, just coincidence. Who wrote the script?
The private contractors have to go. The people who pay for them deserve some "Great justice".
We are not there yet.

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Dan Rather was canned because he reported on something that offended a lot of people and the press went along with it 110 percent.
You remember that they said that typewriters back then couldn't produce those documents? It took me 8 minutes on google to find out that the IBM selectric 2 had the fonts and even had the capabilities to do superscript. On ebay I found over a dozen different font balls for the unit for sale.
Yet no one in the media reported that truth. They reported that the documents were forged using MS word, with proportional spacing which the documents DIDN'T have. Their source was right wing bloggers. That was good enough for them. No further research was necessary. Not even 8 minutes on google.
Everyone in the media knows what you can and cannot do - Imus just learned that.
