unbelievable

when george bush senior ran for president the washington post published his resume and i noticed that it had left out his role as ceo for lilly. i called the post ombudsman and asked why did they leave that out and asked them if they knew he ran lilly. HARWOOD said, "yes, we know, we just don't think the public needs to know that."

no other journalist or news organisation thought the public needed to know that.

got prozac? (the real war on drugs - shut up and take your happy pills)

the news media has acted as a cheerleader for the war in iraq passing on whatever lies the adminstration or the neocons threw out without any question, analysis or worthwhile comment.

whatever lie or con corporate america wants the people to believe, the journalists will do their best to sell and defend against any questioners.

by in large, journalists do not exist - propagandists, copy writers and glad handing sycophants do use the term because it is cooler than "con artist" or "spin doctor".

why did judas betray jesus?

it makes for a better story.

better drama.

it has a double meaning too!

the clever ones can figure it out or be given the mystery and that makes them all the more religious.

just like genesis. the lord god was the crazy jealous evil master and the snake was the enlightening liberator. (it's all in the nag hammadi - several times)

good stories are meant to be taken in more than one way.

now if judas hadn't betrayed him when he did, then maybe jesus's body wouldn't have been taken down before sundown, thus ensuring the opportunity for survival after crucifixtion.

keveninoakland - Long Before WMD...

The networks knew that Bush and company would be good for defense contractors and the whole military-industrial-petro-pharmaceutical-media complex.

Lo, and it has!

They sell anxiety, paranoia, hate, fear, low class behavior, mental illness, murder, obsession, comic book foreign policy and news designed to make someone some money and to distract the people.

They love bush. They just hope the next one will even be better. They will make sure of it.

I wonder if Lockheed gets a special rate for all those patriotic commercials of theirs?

the most disturbing thing

the most disturbing thing is how much she resembles first lady nancy reagan.

it's that look in her eyes.

scruples

so disney has sacked old keith for snorting daddy's ashes - well, it's about time that the disney organisation showed some scruples.

now, if only hollywood and the national media could only follow their shining example.

national schizophrenia

When you cannot rely upon your nervous system to reliably and accurately parse, decode and interpret what signals your sensory organs deliver to you, that's called schizophrenia.

As this nation's nervous system, the news media and journalists cannot be relied upon to reliably and accurately parse, decode and interpret what is going on in the world around us anymore.

when you cannot believe what you see and hear anymore, it's tiem to stop paying attention to the delusional and hallucinatory voices that urge you onward to more foolishness while acting the role of authority and purveyor of "we know better than yousims" - just buy what our sponsor's are selling.

if they prefer to lead by lies and deception then they deserve no followers and no listeners.

too bad people aren't that smart and besides, lies and deception are what most people want.

Do not join the military

One of the issues which irked colonials before they revolted was the issue of involuntary conscrpition and press gangs. They don't teach about that much anymore I suppose.

If joining the military was about defending your country then it wouldn't be bad to sign right up but they haven't defended this country since world war 2. anyone who voluntarilly signs up either actually believes all the commercials, gung ho war movies and propaganda or else they are doing it for purely economic reasons due to lack of jobs, opportunity and education.

We have a mercenary army that doesn't defend this country, but defends corporate interests and imprerial ambitions.

Should they expected to be dealt with honourably and fairly by the system they have joined?

Should we care what happens to them?

The more the politicians, the media and those commericials praise our troops the less they respect them. Lip service is a cheap price for death and crippling injuries are the real product of war. If anyone cared about the troops, THEY WOULDN'T BE THERE.

They lost their lives when they enlisted. Didn't they know bush was in the white house? Didn't they know about war? Didn't they know any history?

Our public school system has failed the kids and given a free pass to the military. People are still signing up. When people stop siging up and they have to draft people, then maybe someone will care about what happens to the troops.

maricalif - that yellow ribbon

A beautiful sentiment by Tony Orlando and Dawn. What does that song have to do with anything? Wasn't he coming back from prison or something?

Does it symbolize supporting our troops or supporting the gang of cut throats who have put them in harms way to make some big bucks?

I bet it is made in China so I guess we really know who it supports.

What I really love about the yellow ribbon magnet emblems is how many of them are affixed to gas guzzling SUVs.

To me, those ribbons symbolize irony and hypocrisy.

RealName

Those who profit from war have always found religion, race and patriotism to be effective tools for marketing war.

The nice thing about slyly afixing the religion and the race labels to the effort is the ability to label opponents as not being against war, but against the religion and the race.

it is about war.
