So Many Choices
[Read the article: Douglas Schoen and Hillary's slimy pollsters]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]bjobotts:
Kucinich has overwhelming support by so many that in spite of polls it's hard for me to imagine he isn't polling towards the top.
I thought this was fun:
Pick Your Candidate
Okay, here's a really simple way to find out which candidates share your views. This script is composed entirely of data collected by www.2decide.com. Enter your choices below and hit GO to rank the candidates.
Here's how it works, if you want to know. If you agree with a candidate, he gets point(s). If you disagree, take point(s) away. Unkown/other results in no points. The number of points given or taken depends on the weight you set. "Meh" is worth 1 point, "important" 2, and "key" is worth 5. The items you disagree about will be listed directly underneath each candidate (if they score greater than zero).

Kucinich ends up on top by quite a bit for me-- when issues are the only consideration. However, weirdly, the only candidate I've supported with money is Edwards, and now I'm really interested in Dodd. Go figure!
It's a good thing we've still got time to decide.

Troll Scroll
[Read the article: The Susan Estrich Complex]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]lupercus:
Were there so many trolls on UT?
I think it was about the same. It was a little harder for me to ignore them here at first, because I had a script for UT that I could use to block their comments completely, and nothing like that works here at Salon (yet)(that I know of). I have learned a sort of SalonScroll, though, where when I move on to a new comment, I go to the end first for the name-- and then sometimes keep right on going.

Patter
[Read the article: The Susan Estrich Complex]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Anon:
"I am the very model of a moderated liberal
I've information sensible, not threatening or critical"
This shows definite promise. There's a Libertarian version already, natch:

You should finish yours, too!
GG:
Lowry gave Estrich what, to her, is the Ultimate Compliment, the pat on the head for which she lives
Your head pat comment is so apt and perfectly describes this symbiotic relationship; in that picture her expression says a little pat is exactly what she'd like. In a review of one of my kids' most favorite rhyming books, Donna O'Neeshuck Was Chased by Some Cows, the NY Times wrote:
But head pats? It's hard to understand why the author chose that particular form of nonverbal communication to make his point. In the hierarchy of touch, I rate the head pat about on a par with the cheek pinch. It's a condescending gesture, a sign that the person administering the pat possesses greater status than the one being patted. Children traditionally get patted on the head not only because they are short, but because they are powerless. Perhaps on her next outing, Donna will work up a good, firm, egalitarian handshake.

I think my kids loved that book because, well, poor Donna:
Donna O'Neeshuck was chased by some cows,
And also by mooses and gooses and sows.
It happened one day
When Donna at play
Patted a cow on the head.
The cow got her friends and they started to chase
Poor Donna O'Neeshuck all over the place.
They chased her through farms,
Through pastures and barns--
Around and around and around.
She ran down the street past a uniformed cop.
He blew on his whistle and made them all stop.
"Thank you," she said,
And she patted his head--
And the cop started chasing her too.
[You get the general idea; much hilarious chasing, about 15 verses of it, until...]She ran and she ran just as far as one can.
Then she slowed, and she stopped, and she threw up her hands.
And she turned and stood facing
Those folks who were chasing
And said to them, "What do you want?"
"Head pats!" they said. "We want pats on the head.
You give such incredible head pats," they said.
"They're so awfully good,
We thought that it would
Be nice if you gave us some more."
She gave them five head pats. They begged her for ten.
She gave them ten head pats. They begged her again.
So she patted away
For most of the day
Then she stopped and sat down and looked tired.Rich Lowry's head pats must rival Donna O'Neeshuck's. It's a wonder he doesn't wear out, too.
...and, btw, he definitely looks like a guy on very familiar terms with both hairspray and a stylist.

@ Tina Trent
[Read the article: The Susan Estrich Complex]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]["Susan Estrich Complex"] sounds sexist
You have got to be kidding. Not calling her on her bullshit, just because she's female, would be sexist. Glenn is an equal opportunity scathingly devastating critic. It's what we love about him!

Blockquotes

[Read more letters about this article: Here]david sugarman:
how did you expand the margin? can you make a *real* poetry style? with variable margins?
I don't know whether or not that can be done, but I indented by using "blockquote" in brackets. Jim is right, too-- much double-checking with Preview is required, because all kinds of weird things can happen if you get some errant returns in there.

Never Again?
[Read the article: "Nazis" and "Hitler" -- the Right's casual, trivializing political insults]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]it seems inconceivable to me that groups so passionate about this issue would remain silent in the face of this dilution, but you're right-- they have. I hope they answer your questions, because I'd hate to think there was another agenda here. Maybe they tried to fight it a few times, wrote it off as a losing cause and gave up? Maybe they take the left more seriously than the right, as has been suggested? Who else have they devoted time and energy to, to set straight?
