C'mon, George Bush is, after all, the self-proclaimed DECIDER . If he wants to decide that the 71% of us that disapprove of the job he's doing are "unsettled" then that's that. At least he didn't decide that we were traitorous lunatics. And how nice that he and Karl Rove have decided to blame our being unsettled on the war in Iraq -- that way they can ignore all of the other aspects of the polls, the ones that indicate that the majority of us are also unsettled about his dishonesty and how he's handling issues like taxes, ethics, the economy, immigration, the deficit and gas prices.
So the voters have a choice between someone with a transplanted heart and someone with no heart at all. Even if the Democratic candidate is Zippy the Chimp I would think he'd win in a landslide.
But isn't it kinda comforting to know that the Republicans practice their sleazy campaign tactics on one another in the primaries? Silly me, I always thought they saved this kind of stuff for the Democrats.
Now if there was any justice Cheney would accidentally stab himself in the face with that penknife of his.
That was the best link in more than a WEEK!!
P.S. Now go take off those slacks of yours ... it'll be so liberating for you that I bet you start ranting in your next blog.
Wouldn't you expect the leader of the free world to take this opportunity to express moral outrage at the Haditha massacre? Wouldn't you expect him to show something more than a bit of dismay over the fact that 24 innocent people, some women, children and babies, were slaughtered by people that he commanded? But no, instead of outrage, we have a president who apparently had all he could do muster up that seething emotion "troubled". And can you continue to call yourself *commander in chief*, Mr. Bush, when we now know that you only found out about this incident after a reporter from Time Magazine started asking questions (back in MARCH)?!?! And shouldn't that have been when the order went out for our troops to begin receiving their "Core Value Training" instead of starting the training today (now that the whole world knows what happened in Haditha and when)? As usual, Mr. Bush, you don't give a crap about all of the people who have already died in Iraq and you obviously aren't interested in saving any lives either. Everything you say and do is scripted. You don't govern, you react. You don't unite, you divide. You don't lead, you decide. And do you know what else you do, Mr. Bush? You make millions of us feel ashamed to be Americans.
How much time did you spend in Ohio before, during, or after the 2004 election, Mr. Manjoo?? Well, I LIVE in Ohio, Mr. Manjoo, and I've been in a state of outrage for the last 20 months over what went on here. And I'm now watching Ken Blackwell steadfastly refuse to step aside as our Chief Elections Officer while he runs for governor. He gave Ohio to George Bush in 2004 and he's now in the process of giving Ohio to himself in 2006.
RFK Jr. posed a question and presented a lot of information ... it's pretty obvious, at least to me, that he thinks there's more than enough doubt about the integrity of the election here in Ohio to merit a full-blown investigation. But you clearly don't agree -- you've decided the answer to his question is NO, and apparently that's that. It seems to me that ANY objective journalist would be calling for an investigation, but as so many others in this forum have already pointed out, you only seem interested in defending the position you took 20 months ago.
If Ken Blackwell has nothing to hide, Mr. Manjoo, then why is he refusing to acknowledge or count the petitions submitted by Ohio's Green Party candidate for governor, Bob Fitrakis, even though Fitrakis has obtained more than twice the number of signatures required to be included on our November ballot? I'll tell you why, Mr. Manjoo. Because as a certified candidate with full legal standing, Fitrakis has pledged to escalate the Green campaign to unearth more of what really happened in Ohio 2004. Could it be that, as an attorney, Fitrakis's ability to drag our Secretary of State into court could blow things wide open? Of course the Greens will first have to haul Blackwell into court to force official certification of their petitions. Presumably there will be another in a long line of rulings by the Ohio courts every time Blackwell tries to circumvent the electoral process here in Ohio. Meanwhile, of course, the Greens can't do any campaigning, and that's obviously exactly what Ken Blackwell wants.
Shame on Salon for continuing to allow you to "report" on this issue. We deserve a lot better!!! Although I'm not willing to give up on Salon just yet, as many others are, it'll be a cold day in hell before I waste any more of my time reading anything you write.
