  • More Questions

[Read the article: The Dubai ports deal: Us, them and in between]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I don't care if it's Dubai or Denmark. Why isn't the hue and cry over the whole idea of outsourcing management of pieces-parts of the Eastern Seaboard and the Gulf Coast to ANY foreign company? Why no hue and cry as this president keeps selling off pieces-parts of our national parks to the highest corporate bidders and pieces-parts of Alaska to his favorite oil companies? Government spending is growing by leaps and bounds yet I don't think this president will be happy until he's privatized every ounce and inch of America's infrastructure. Why are the rights of multinational corporations more important to this president than the rights of the citizens he's supposed to be representing? And why in God's name do 40% of the people in this country still approve of the way this man is running our country? (Unless they think running this country means running it into the ground!)

The fact that George Bush is outsourcing management of 6 of our seaports to a foreign company run by one of his favorite royal families shouldn't come as a surprise to anybody. The fact that he's surprised by America's reaction and the fact that he sees nothing wrong with it should be a wake-up call to the intellectually-challenged 40% who keep saying "Heckuva job Georgie". How 'bout we outsource this whole damn administration and Congress too? Whatever we got would have to be better than what we have.

  • King George Obviously Rules England

[Read the article: Taking back the terrorism trump card]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

"The terrorists want our nation to become distrustful," England told a U.S. Senate committee. "They want us to become paranoid and isolationist, and my view is we cannot allow this to happen. It needs to be just the opposite."

Gordon England's statements would almost be laughable if his motives weren't so jaw-droppingly transparent. Scuse me, Mr. England, perhaps you haven't noticed, but America is already distrustful and paranoid and the blame for that can be laid right on the doorstep of your president, a man who's been trotting out the national security "fear card" for 5 years, every time he thinks it'll goose his poll numbers or deflect attention away from the latest GOP scandal. But, gee, what a difference a day makes. Now George Bush desperately wants to outsource the management of 6 of our ports to the very same UAE royal family that has had strong ties to the Bush family for years so all of sudden our president has declared that Americans shouldn't be worrying about security ... that's HIS job and he's doin' it just fine.

Usually when people start disagreeing with King George they're accused of aiding and abetting our enemies. How refreshing to know that we're finally kicking it up a notch and that by denying King George what he wants we now have the power to actually hand the terrorists a complete victory. Yippee.

  • Questions for the "Forty-Niners"

[Read the article: If Bush dumped Cheney, would anyone want the job?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

"Fifty-one percent of Americans say that Bush doesn't care about people like them".

Okay, I've done the math ... that means forty-nine percent of Americans say that Bush DOES care about people like them. What in God's name are you basing this on? His tax cuts for the wealthy? Mr. Compassionate Conservative's complete indifference to the victims of Katrina, then and now? His gutting of Federal agencies like the Mine Safety and Health Administration that are supposed to be looking out for your health, safety and welfare? His sending your sons and daughters and your neighbors' sons and daughters off to Iraq to get shot at or blown up? His slashing of the budget for veterans' benefits? His really swell prescription drug program that you or your parents are stuck with that won't even let the government negotiate lower drug prices for you? His opposition to stem cell research so all of you can die of whatever ails you instead of maybe being cured?

Oh wait, how stupid can I be? I forgot - he's going to make darned sure you and your daughters can't get an abortion. And while you're all sitting around waiting for all those unwanted babies to be born he's keeping all of you safe from terrorists. Of course, he's doing this at the expense of some of your civil liberties, and maybe some people are being illegally detained and quite possibly tortured in the process, and it's costing this country a crapload of your hard-earned tax dollars but, what the hell, I guess 49% of you think that's a small price to pay for your safety.
