  • Example

[Read the article: Media hypocrites love personality politics]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Obama's bowling score is a thing to be scorned. Bush's brush cutting photo op on the family "ranch" is to be admired. I think my point is made.

  • Once Again

[Read the article: About that flag-pin question]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Samuel Johnson's dictum that patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel comes to mind. I have never checked, but I'll bet the Cheney, Lay, Libby, et. al. are of the flag pin elite.

  • Why electability?

[Read the article: The fallout from the Democratic debate]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Because the press is making it the primary focus of their reports. They are not reporters; they are handicappers.

  • Who Are " Most People?"

[Read the article: Will Obama's debate stumble hurt him?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    Joan,

Did you do a survey? If so, cite it. Your use of "most People is right in line with Fox News' using "People say" and Rush Limbaugh's "Everybody knows."

  • It's a mistake

[Read the article: McCain's gassy tax relief]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

to stop taxing gasoline when the prices soar one more reason than the author gives. If we cut taxes to keep the price from increasing, the suppliers will simply reel in that slack in higher profits. We are sending the message that they don't need to worry about raising prices, we will cut taxes. The suppliers will still raise prices and take what used to be tax money in as profits.

  • SHAME ON THOSE

[Read the article: Hillary Clinton's bionic quest continues]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

supporters of either Clinton or Obama who would either sit on their hands or vote somewhere else in the November election. If either faction does not support the other, we will be saddled with BushIII if McCain captures the White House. It does neither Democratic candidate any good to win in August if the opposing faction does not support the nominee in November. If you don't want McCain, WAKE UP!

  • Interesting isn't it?

[Read the article: Media's refusal to address the NYT's "military analyst" story continues]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

If you are a pro-war ex military you are an analyst; if you are anti-war ex military you are an advocate. No one was asked during those heady days of 2003 how we would disengage or what our plans would be if things didn't work out.

  • The Inevitable

[Read the article: Bradleys used to be considered impregnable]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

There is a general principle that nothing that is created cannot be subverted.

    The undetectable submarine became detectable

The unreachable U-2 was shot down.

Hadrian's Wall finally failed, as did the Berlin Wall and the Great Wall of China.

    The unsinkable Titanic sank.

The Abrams tank can be destroyed as can the Bradley.

Any rational discussion of anything will include its Elephantman, who will completely misinterpret what is happening.

  • A Shift in the Wind

[Read the article: Winds of change]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Sorry about the pun, but the conservative philosophy of depending on the market has put us in a real bind. All too often the market does not act until a crisis occurs. As a result, we are behind in almost all the alternative technologies being developed today. When Reagan became president, the development of alternative fuels and other things was put into private hands. As a result, other countries have bypassed us in the fields of solar, wind and other sources of power and in alternate forms of transportation. Now we buy our solar panels from Germany, our wind power equipment from Sweden, our high speed rail from various countries. Why?

Corporations were making money with existent technologies and other technologies would not be immediately profitable. The bottom line is still the bottom line and a good idea is still a good idea. We need to create a new mindset that not every immediately profitable thing is a good idea and not every good idea is immediately profitable.

  • On Polls

[Read the article: Ignore the McCain vs. Obama polls]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I neither participate nor pay attention to them.

  • To quote the great philosopher, Pogo

[Read the article: A new low in Clinton bashing]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

"We have met the enemy and they is us." I am tired of all the backbiting on both sides by Clinton and Obama supporters. I thought a long time about how I would vote in our primary and ultimately decided to support Obama. By doing that I did not intend to "diss" Hillary or any other candidate. We do not always get what we want. This whole thing about Robert Kennedy is an example of the trivial driving the debate. We are straining at gnats and passing elephants. I am not completely happy with either candidate, but I would rather have either one than four years of Bush-lite.

Look at McCain's whole program. Our healthcare system is OK. Lets make the tax cuts for the wealthy "permanent." Let's continue to bleed our military personnel and our national treasure in Iraq. Let's make sure that McCain will be elected because we didn't THINK!
