Once again, Pogo is right. We have met the enemy and they is us.
[Read the article: A look at Spitzer's Emperors Club Web site]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Why did Spitzer, in his arrogance, take such gamble? Because he is one of us. The Emperors Club does not exist just for politicians to use. It exists because all levels of society use the services of sex providers and take what should be unacceptable risks: loss of social standing, loss of job and family, STD's, etc. It reminds me of the story about a man who asks a woman if she would have sex with him for a million dollars. When she answers in the affirmative, he asks her again for a price of ten dollars. When she replies, "What do you think I am." He answers, "We've already extablished that. Now we're negotiating the price!"
Just as the price doesn't change what the woman is, it doesn't change what the man who hires sex is or the risks he takes. Whether it is a 3 thousand dollar romp with a high-priced call girl or a "quicky" with a streetwalker, the risks are the same. Every day, American men and women, for whatever reason, take those risks. None of us believe that we will ever be found out. Essentially, we are all hypocrites. Why does it surprise us when politicians are?

On the Obama-Wright thing
[Read the article: The crazy uncles in Obama's attic]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]So Obama's neighborhood is a stew of competing and conflicting ideas; all the more power to him. Better that than the yes, sir!, no, sir! environment that his opponent, if Obama is nominated, lived in for most of his life.

I'm not a New Yorker, but
[Read the article: Say it ain't so, David Paterson]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Who cares?

Fox News Isn't News
[Read the article: "Obama Watch"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Time after time Fox supports its arguments by citing "People Say" as its source. That might be worthy of bridge club gossip but not of a supposed news channel.

To add to Had_Enough
[Read the article: The crash in Republican economics ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Might the cheap money be flowing (no pun intended) toward oil futures? Are speculators using lower interest rates to drive up oil prices?

Deja vu
[Read the article: Obama passport file breached]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]During the 1992 Presidential campaign Clinton's file was opened by state department employees. Do I see a similarity?

We are too often ignorant or forgetful,
[Read the article: Rev. Jeremiah Wright isn't the problem]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Abraham Lincoln protested the Mexican War by demanding that the President, who had stated in his war message that "Mexican troops have attacked American troops on American soil, show the spot of the attack. Of course, the spot did not exist. It was carried out on Mexican territory that Texas and later the U.S. claimed was ours. Mexico did not cede this territory till after the Mexican War.
I cite numerous "Christian" leaders as found in the Daily Kos.

December is the month.
[Read the article: Rum, Romanism and James Carville]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The battle will go on and on. In December, the electoral college will name John McCain President of the United States. Sad, isn't it.

Why don't we?
[Read the article: Ask the pilot]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Why don't we have separate entry for the cockpit crew and put solid bulkheads between them and the passenger compartment?

AMAZING!
[Read the article: Why Hillary Clinton should be winning]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]A system that provides states with few people to nullify the voters of states with large populations is touted as a system that makes sense! It made sense in 1787, when it was crucial to the ratification of the Constitution and the electorate was made up of white middle class males, but it doesn't now. Remember, the electoral college theoretically can take a one vote plurality in each state and DC and turn it into a "landslide" 538 to 0 victory.

Cokie Roberts is just another example
[Read the article: Cokie Roberts speaks out on the war on behalf of the American people]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]At one time, Cokie Roberts could be depended upon to give inciteful and thoughtful analyses of the news. But like so many in the news, she has taken to parroting the administration line in order to maintain access. This is true not only of individuals, but of corporate media as well. All of the so-called news channels either blatantly support the administration on partisan grounds or soft-pedal any criticism of the administration in the name of maintaining access. Because of this, we wind up being bombarded (ad infinitum, ad nauseum) with accounts of the trivia in the lives of movie stars, politicians, sports figures, etc.
Question: Did any major news channel cover the "Winter Soldier" events sponsored by Iraq Vets Against the War inany meaningful way?

George is a loser
[Read the article: Hearings full of sound and fury, changing nothing]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]George is hanging on so he won't be the "loser" in Iraq. I really think the Republicans would welcome a Democrat in the White House. The loss in Iraq would be the GOP mantra for 2012.

@ Elephantman
[Read the article: "We'll make you see death"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Your reasoning is the same that is used to support supermarket rags. "It must be true. Otherwise they couldn't print it." They must be guilty. Otherwise they would have been "detained."

There must have been a phone call, somewhere!
[Read the article: More on Michael Mukasey's false 9/11 and FISA claims]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Let's assume there was a phone call from someone somewhere to someone in the U.S. Unless all our phones are tapped (They wouldn't do that, would they?), the recipient of the phone call would have to already be suspected of some kind of skullduggery. Since no one really had a clue of who the perpetrators of 9/11 were before the act, that leaves us with the possibility of all our phones being tapped. (They wouldn't do that, would they?)

The Middle Class
[Read the article: Kristol plays the Marx card]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]has been voting against its own interests for years. Who is going to pay off the huge deficits being incurred by neocon dreams of empire? Who are the people being killed in Iraq? Ask that question and you are accused of "class warfare." Well, class warfare was the cry of the neocons when they were Marxist. The neocons (ex-Marxists) are still carrying it out. Different class--same warfare.

It's Fear, Stupid.
[Read the article: The rubes and the elites]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Obama has touched on the mantra that the Republican Party has used for many years. BE AFRAID! Be afraid of Saddam Hussein, or of anyone whose name sounds like that. Be afraid that your guns will be taken away, be afraid of same sex marriage, be afraid of illegal immigrants, abortion on demand, be afraid, afraid, afraid. We (the GOP) will protect you from all of those evils. In return, all you have to do is ask your sons and daughters to enlist in the army for our imperial wars, allow us to listen to your conversations, lower taxes on the rich so they can invest their money in Mexico, etc., and present your grandchildren with a debt that will take horrendous taxes to repay. Now don't you feel better!
I am a product of that small-town America. Since when is it disrespectful for a politician to tell the truth?
