"Men and women are different, in a way that black men and white men are not- leading sexism to be inevitable in a way racism is not. Limits to women's power are also inevitable."
That's ridiculous. Just because men and women are different doesn't mean there should be any limitations to one or the other's political power.
Suppose, for the sake of argument, that women were better at cooperation while men were better at competition. Clearly there is plenty of room for both in this world.
"Women are, in many ways, where black people were 50 years ago."
You do realize, don't you, that 50 years ago black people could legally be denied the right to vote, had to use separate lunch counters, had to sit in the back of the bus, and were frequently lynched for demanding equality?
Yes, I realize that.
I wouldnt' go around saying "in many ways I am just like Jesus Christ". Sure, me and Jesus are both men, and were both born in winter, and did our most memorable work in our 30s. But I still wouldn't go around saying that.
Did Glenn Beck just say that we are on the road to a "socialist fascist" government? My god, he's dumb.
This is an unfair rule and should obviously be eliminated. Has any progress been made on repealing the Defense of Marriage Act or any of its parts?
Is the person who authorized this behaviour sorry? Does he regret that his orders were "taken out of context"? If so, let's cut him a break.
"I still don't believe for one minute that any of the torture committed by US personnel under the color of law (i.e. I'm not talking about unsanctioned prisoner abuse) was done to be sadistic punishment for non-cooperation "
How many times was that one prisoner waterboarded? 83? Why would they think it would work on the 83rd time if it didn't work the previous 82? It sounds more like retaliation than information-gathering to me--especially since we did not, actually, get any information.
The other day Michael Savage was on NPR to complain about how unfair it was that he was banned from the UK and how horribly his free speech rights were being restricted thereby. Someone then called in to the show and excoriated Savage for his racist, sexist, and homophobic views. So of course Savage demanded the host cut that caller off.
I hope no one is surprised by this. Even among today's lackluster press, Dowd is one of the laziest and most thoughtless writers working. "Oh, Barack Obama/John Edwards/John Kerry/Howard Dean/Al Gore is such a girlie-man!" "Ken Starr is like Darth Vader. We should call him 'Darth Starr'" etc. Few of her original columns show any sign of effort; why shouldn't she plagarize?
In the picture at the top, that's Nurse Jackie, the "Mad Men" guy, and someone from "Think You Can Dance". But I can't figure out who that waitress is.
"Some of the news organizations in this country are acting as if they have their very identity attached to the issue of his birth certificate."
That's rich, coming from a Birther.
"as opposed to engaging in vulnerable self-exploration or other frilly, feminine things like -- shhh! -- therapy"
And when someone does engage in years (and hundreds of dollars) of therapy and still can't get the time of day?
"The fact that there are posters saying they can't fathom how someone could go 20 years without getting laid is pretty revealing."
I'll say. So someone can't imagine how that could happen? So what? I've known people who were in the Army and regularly jumped out of a plane for a living. I couldn't imagine how they could do that. Every sunday I finish the New York Times crossword puzzle, and everyone who sees me doing it says they can't imagine how I could do that. But I still do it. So what if you can't imagine something. That sure as heck doesn't make it impossible.
"If you want to meet women, be the best person you can be."
Sure sounds great in theory. But what if the best you that you can be is someone who is really good at crossword puzzles? You ever met a woman who was looking for a guy who was good at crossword puzzles?
"I still can't understand how George Sodini couldn't find at least ONE woman in 19 (!!!!) years to have at least physical contact with."
Again, what a person does and does not understand has no bearing at all on reality. You sound like the people who say "I don't understand how evolution could lead to an eye, so we can't possibly teach it in schools?"
"Yeah, the "chicks at the bar" want the "Alpha Male" but that is for merely the "sex"."
Is that supposed to be reassuring to anyone?
"These pick-up artists are losers. And some people wonder if a feminist movement is still needed."
I'm not sure what this means. Are you saying that a feminist movement can cure people of being losers?
