Again thanks, for fully clarifying from the historical perspective the FISA debate. Your columns never cease to illuminate the issues clearly.
These faux-warrior clowns have been wrong from "Day One", and they continue to be wrong 1779 days after "Mission Accomplished".
Glenn,
Again, thank you for your succinct analysis.
I think the really sad part of the whole episode is politicians believe they have to seek and obtain approval of these ministers to qualify for elective office, further trashing the constitution!
A retired army buddy of mine once told me that McCain wants to re-fight the Vietnam war which he did from the air. He believes that had he seen what the rest of them saw on the ground(like Hagel), he will be less for calling for "more sacrifice" in Iraq.
We once "elected" a C-average student to the WH, we don't need one that graduated at the bottom of his class in the naval academy.
There is a direct relationship between the ignorance of the american public and the duplicity of the press- hence we can do no wrong, in spite of Vietnam, Nicaragua, Congo, Cuba, Iraq, etc.
I never cease to be amazed at the level of awareness of the "average" person in Europe or Africa about events in the world as compared to that of the "average" american!
Thank you again , Glenn.
P.S. Just got your new book in the mail.
Since when did it become a negative to obtain an ivy league education? Does every parent not desire that for their child? And the black electorate has always voted for white candidates with ivy league education. Or are you saying that Obama is an "uppity negro"?
Let's get ready to rumble....In the red corner we have an almost unknown minister who did not kill anyone....in the blue corner we have one/many who started an illegal war, killed thousands, orphaned countless children, rendered millions refugees, and want to continue the carnage until "victory". Joan cannot seem to decipher the combatants.
To catch "mistakes" in Glenn's writing requires a degree of anality. I am too busy digesting the cerebral and passionate sense of his writing to notice anything else!
Thanks Glenn, keep up the great work.
I guess it is part of the "culture of life" to sweep the issue of pedophilia in the catholic church under the rug for over 100 years!
Can anyone believe that a progressive, a liberal or a democrat will vote for a republican in the general because their preferred candidate did not get the nomination? However imperfect a candidate Obama or Clinton may be, the federal and supreme courts are too important to vote in a McCain.
Mike Sulzer:
No it's different, eh?
No it is not, as long as the bottom line is the same, effective propaganda. I know it pains you to know that the US govt is now guilty of the same transgressions as the soviet govt in its hey days.
To Shawn:
"Rabid blacks", like in rabid dogs, eh? You are not even a closet racist anymore!
It alway amazes me when people preface what they have to say with "I am not racist, but....". Read the comments at "Tennesse Guerilla Woman" where they have perfected this art.
Ms Moyer:
I am a progressive democrat. As a physician, I am pro-life. I also support the 2nd amendment, and own a gun. The win in MS cannot just be written off because the victoris pro-life and "pro-gun". It is significant in the sense that this was in a ruby-red district.
Joe Klein as someone said earlier has always been a joke line.
Being in support of the second amendment and responsible gun legislation are not mutually exclusive. At least we recognize that our tent is wide, and we can agree on some, disagree on some. You stated it better! Obama has recognized that there are some dems who own guns and support responsible gun ownership.
The dichotomy between liberal and progressive may actually be artificial. I will agree that there are differences between a liberal/progressive and a regressive/conservative on issues like the environment, education(incl sex ed.), health care, race, etc. Second amendment issues i.e gun ownership(and supporting legislation to that effect) can actually be a progressive stand. The "right to life" issue is more nebulous, and can be influenced by religious or professional(Hippocratic oath) concerns. These issues are used to create a false dichotomy between who is progressive or regressive(and hence used too gin up votes like gay marriage, etc).
There you go again, showing your elitist stream. You expect James, like most radio jocks to know anything about history? He had a few talking points+ "appeaser" that will do for his ditto-heads. Only elitists bother about reading, studying and knowledge.
Why would anyone accept US staying in Iraq for 5 more years when 100 years will do? Maybe McCain should have more faith in his original idea!
The catholic church does not recognize divorces, but catholics still divorce. The church has every right not to sanction marriage if it chooses to, but marriage is not a religious ceremony only!
Bernbart:
Jpincus is Hannity/FOXKKK...I was thinking same of shawnWM based on comments made on various articles in salon.
I have always wondered about the middle name "Hussein". I guess we tell our parents what name we want to be called by when we are born!
There was nothing scintillating about the game until the penalties, as both teams were playing to not lose. Rooney was nowhere to be found, Ronaldo had a few runs, Hargreaves always fouling or looking for one. On the Chelsea side, it seemed like Ballack and Cech were the only ones on the pitch, save one glorious attempt at goal by Drogba- an AC Milan/Arsenal final was what football fans had hoped for.
