Ugh. I can't look at this guys name without my stomach turning. Did anyone see him on the Daily Show? I've never seen a more obviously disingenuous performance. The election doesn't matter? WTF? Asshat has to pretend it doesn't matter because he's about to lose.
You could see in his eyes he didn't even believe what he was saying, but he was ready to put on the act, to say it with a smile, because he'll say whatever he's paid to say.
Obama's probably going to be centrist? Funny he hasn't pointed that out to all the other Republicans calling Obama a socialist...hmm...
TG for Jon Stewart. He called him on his bullshit. It was really an emperor with no clothes moment. Can Kristol have negative credibility? Because I'd say that's probably true.
Please stop posting your email chains to each other and calling them "blog posts."
No one wants to read the thread of my emails to my friends, and no one wants to read what you say to each other when passing around fodder for publishing.
She had veto power over BO's run. And she didn't exercise it.
She chose to campaign for him despite having a job (See Howard Dean's doctor wife, who also didn't campaign much). She didn't have to.
She chose to go on the View, to talk about cookie recipes etc. Yes, that part's annoying, that that's what the media and traditional women want to see. But she chose to give it to them.
Michelle Obama is terribly smart. You think she doesn't know exactly what she's been getting herself into? She's figured out how to give the media what they want. And it worked.
No one knows what she'll do in the White House. And that's probably the cool part about it for her - she has such limitless possibilities. She's not shackled by the expectation to be a 2-for-1 like Hillary, and she doesn't have to spend 8 years on prozac like Laura.
Who knows - maybe she and Barack have some trade worked out - he gets these 8 years then she gets the next decade.
I don't feel bad for her. I admire her more for it - she's figured out how to work the system and now she, and her husband, get to reap the rewards.
Yes, thanks for improving our lives by leaving us multiple, expensive messes to clean up! Is there anything the thundering hordes of baby boomers' can't ruin?
and also, please stop flogging your "look at me, i wrote about how conspiracy theorists just won't go away" every time something like this comes up. What will you do when it finally does go away? ;)
I'm shock to see this on the pages of Salon. Do you believe in democracy or oligarchy?!?!?! Senate seats are not hereditary. We've had enough people advance to high office because of their father/uncle/husband. Don't get me wrong, I like Hillary, but I ultimately couldn't vote for her in the primary because there is something inherently wrong with having Presidents with the same last names too close to each other (why people didn't think that with Bush I and II is beyond me too).
For those of you that keep throwing up "what about Hillary?" - at least she campaigned and won her seat fair and square. Plus, she'd worked on all kind of policy initiatives. Ms. Kennedy - who I think is also a lovely person - has not done anything to deserve her seat. She writes books and fundraises for foundations. Giving her the seat is just has bad as Gov. Blago selling Obama's - except that instead of money it's being sold in exchange for her Kennedy name and all of the prestige that goes along with it (and all of her rich friends that will be oh so appreciative).
For those of you who talk about her "inspirational" qualities - exactly what is inspiring about her? What is her vision? What does she want to accomplish for NY and the nation? Does she have any policy goals? Or just thinks it'll be fun to hang out with Obama in Washington, since they're good friends now and all. What's to say she won't just continue her ceremonial duties and leave the work of governing to paid hands.
Non-rich candidates have such a hard time getting elected in the first place. Why not give one of those, who has perhaps actually worked in government before, the benefit of incumbency for 2010? How much longer will we continue to let ourselves be governed by oligarchy? Where does it end?
There's nothing criminal about having sex with someone who is of consent age. Lost their job, sure? Sent to jail? C'mon already.
The posters thus far must be too old to get it. I get it. You've moved on, you have a life beyond these people. You thought you'd left your old life behind, but with the wonders of technology, you're forced to stay connected forever. It makes you question whether you can change who you were from high school. Whether you're still the same person you were then, or if you are actually better/new and improved from before. Whether you can actually ever move on.
Here's my advice (assuming this is Facebook): create yourself a "limited profile." Only have in it the things you're willing to share with these people (not much), and then assign them to your limited profile list. They'll get to count you as a friend, but they won't get to learn much. And you can more or less pretend they're not there.
Or, ignore them. They don't get a note you've rejected them anyway. Nothing happens, you just don't ever become their friend. That's all. They may figure it out, but that consequence is up to you.
Cramer: STFU.
