Hi Sweeties

I'm midwestern, not southern, and in a profession, yet I'll end a conversation, even with some of my clients at work, with "good luck with that deal, hon" or sometimes "sweetie", that kind of thing. I see it as more like verbal punctuation - you want to address the person somehow, not "hey you" and maybe not their name. So Big Fat Deal.

The bigger issue is that the question was yelled out, interrupting his conversation with someone else, and further it was a stupidly vague question, something like "what are you going to do for autoworkers"? Well, that takes into account many issues, the economy, health care, job training and retraining, tax rates, etc., etc. And Obama has addressed all of those issues with regard to the working people in all industries, in speeches, on his website, written materials, etc. I am in Detroit and that kind of incisive, specific question is typical of our local news reporters here.

sweetie update!!

Just got back from picking up lunch - and noticed for the first time that the nice guy who works at the sandwich counter asks EVERYONE "what's for lunch, sweetie" or some similar greeting. Maybe if we all called each other sweetie or honey from now on we'd all relax a little bit.

What's more important are all of the sweeties that have been lost in this stupid war, and the fact that McCain wants it to go on another five years or so.

Original article: Quote of the day

Wow!

At first I thought that was one of those many Salon articles you've run over the past several years: "The speech/answer that [fill in name of Democrat] SHOULD give."

Then I realized - - no this is real, he really DID say it! It's a miracle! Thanks for posting this.

Original article: Erica Kane is my guru

AMC

I watched AMC from Day One, managed to arrange my college classes around it in the pre-VCR days, and it was my first Season Pass when I got Tivo. I could draw anyone a detailed Pine Valley family tree. But I dropped it cold turkey at the point of the rescued fetus story. One of the show's strongest points was that it fearlessly led the pack in presenting storylines that were edgy and progressive. Erica's abortion was one of those storylines. Then they decided it didn't really happen. That was it for me.

agree with JacquieWM

My son is a first time voter and he will be voting on Tuesday right in his dorm! And all of his friends are doing the same.

Original article: My father's vote

Condolences

I am a longtime fan of your father's and have just felt so horrible and sad since I heard the news. (I'm also the daughter of Stevenson Democrats, so I can relate.) It makes me feel just a little better to find out that your father did get to vote and know that Obama had won. Thank you for letting us know that.

meaningless

He didn't mean that "girls don't like sports." I just figured he knew Michelle was not interested in the issue of a playoff for college football. I know I'm not interested in football at any level, but I love baseball and hockey. I agree with the poster who said we could have enjoyed watching them talk for another hour - or two!! So smart and charming.

Original article: Let Obama be Obama

Agree with this column

I totally agree, Joan. I think what's happening here is that the situation we're in is pretty much unprecedented. I'm not a history scholar, but I don't think we've ever had an instance where the sitting president basically QUITS after the election but before the new president is legally inaugurated! If we weren't in such a mess, maybe nobody would notice, but . . . I think that people at all levels simply don't have any historical reference for dealing with something like this.

WAR AGAINST TERROR

What is a terrorist ? - someone who, to advance his own cause, will hurt others without caring. It seems to me that these senators are domestic terrorists and must be detained at Gitmo ASAP. They don't care how many families they hurt while they advance their own cause.

complete sentences!!!!

Yesterday afternoon I realized that I said something I hadn't said in 8 years: "I'm going home to watch the President tonight!" What a joy. It could have run another hour and have been fine with me.

to Nathan Coker

Apples and oranges. Maddow/Olbermann are commentators. Cheney is the former VP. His tenure is complete. We don't need him to do playbyplay on the Obama Presidency.

Okay, since you are from Ohio I'll go over it again realllll slowlllyyyyyy...............

The difference is that Edwards and Blago did not go around claiming moral superiority, telling people how to live their lives, forcing their religious beliefs on everyone, and going on and on about how two gay people being married harms their own marriage (still have never gotten an explanation on that).

On the other hand the entire GOP is always lecturing to everyone else about god and country and the "sanctity of marriage" blah blah blah. See - that's what makes it different, (and something we can have a good laugh over!!)

Classic. I hope this story never ends.

Ew!

That is just so very creepy.

salt

That is just beyond stupid. It's not even logical. And all they are doing is hurting the postal workers, UPS drivers, whatever, who are going to be schlepping that stuff. I'm with Congressman Grayson. The repugs just have to GET OUT OF THE WAY!

Chabon/Waldman

I am just so sick of hearing about every detail of the lives of this pair of cloying narcissists.
