Quote of the day

Sarah knows how to field-dress a moose. I know how to castrate a calf. Neither of those things has anything at all to do with this election.

Actually they do: Sarah Palin is against the use of birth control even among married couples, so I wonder how she feels about castration of a calf? I bet I know of at least one party she'd like to castrate right about now-- Bristol's boyfriend.

@timbuktom

Gov. Palin is a prominent member of Feminists For Life, a fundamentalist group advocating prison for doctors who perform abortions under any circumstances. FFL also opposes birth control, even for married couples.

@zandru

So, Lt Gov Judge is another one of those castrating Democratic women?

Don't be silly-- you can't castrate a woman, Democratic or not.

Nothing I said was a lie. At best, her position has been inconsistent; at worst, it has been hypocritical or deliberately misleading. See:

www.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,1837523_1837531_1837538,00.html

...which indicates that she is for birth control *and* mentions her membership in FFL.

@doc5467

I included the link to the Time article to indicate her affiliation with FFL. Why Time characterizes it as pro-contraception escapes me; FFL's own website states:

Preconception issues including abstinence and contraception are outside of our mission. Some FFL members and supporters support the use of non-abortifacient contraception while others oppose contraception for a variety of reasons.

In actual practice, though, FFL has been more opinionated on the issue than they let on. As a matter of fact, FFL pamphlets claim that breast cancer is caused by contraceptives, despite there being no medical evidence to support the claim.

@doc5467

What I said was:

As a matter of fact, FFL pamphlets claim that breast cancer is caused by contraceptives, despite there being no medical evidence to support the claim.

This is *not* "word for word for word."

What Daily Kos said is:

In fact, FFL pamphlets (sic) atribute breast cancer to contraceptives, despite a complete lack of medical evidence to support the claim.

While the phrasing is similar, I don't know how you can state such a bald-faced fact without coming close to what was posted. It still doesn't negate the truth.

Speaking of truth, I'd rather be labeled a "ditto-head" than live in denial like you. You forgot to mention that the daily Kos article contains a link to one of the aforementioned FFL pamphlets, where on p. 17 it states (word for word for word, mind you):

Although the exact cause of breast cancer is not known, some factors that increase a woman’s breast cancer risk include family history, smoking, taking hormones (as found in hormone replacement therapy and birth control pills, patches, and implantable hormonal birth control) and postmenopausal obesity.

Sarah Palin's stated position isn't enough; her association with this group is sufficient in my opinion to show her true colors. If she went on record saying "I am opposed to racism" yet maintained membership in the KKK, what would you believe?

...and one more thing...

You stated in your apology:

I do realize you and I are after the same basic end--to have Democrats in control of the executive branch of our government.

Sez who? I don't recall having ever made any statements in this or any other forum that would indicate my political affiliation or choice of presidential candidates. All I did at the start of this exchange is make one of my usual sarcastic remarks about a public figure worthy of being skewered by members of either political party-- or a member of none, like me.

Geez, then a really powerful guy like you is sure to be among the corrupt, huh?

How can there be a TV review by Heather Havrilesky with this many dumb reality shows in it and no mention of whoring sea donkeys? I feel cheated.

Ya gotta admit--

Palin's quote of Albright practically cries out for a Lloyd Bentsen "You're no Jack Kennedy" smackdown response.

While we're on the subject--

I've got a problem with the ads I've seen for NuvaRing. They imply that taking a birth control pill every day is somehow old-fashioned and an onerous chore. As a member of the male gender, I'm probably not entitled to much of an opinion on the matter, but I'd rather take a pill every day than shove a widget up my hoo-hah and leave it there to leach hormones into my bloodstream for three weeks at a time. But that's just me.
