Original article: The Democratic Don Quixote

This article sums up everything I hate about the primary and election process

It upsets me that for so many political writers, it's still about showmanship and not about experience and ability. I mean, what did Scherer think he was writing about? What is his great contribution to the dicourse, to point out that Richardson was too busy you know, negotiating the release of hostages in North Korea, Iraq, and Sudan to take acting or public speaking lessons? Now all that those undecided readers are going to see is that Richardson might be too easily flummoxed to be a viable candidate for president. That he might appear to waffle too much, as if a governor from New Mexico cares about the Red Sox OR the Yankees.

I get steamed when I read these hatchet pieces because I firmly believe that everyone has a horse in the race, and somehow I don't think we'll ever see the article about how despite his trouble along the campaign trail, Richardson is miles ahead of the competition when it comes to the resume, and our country can handle a few public gaffes and inconsistencies as long as the man in office can, you know, broker a cease fire in Darfur and head the Dayton Peace accords. He may not have looked Tim Russert in the face on Meet the Press, but he stared down Saddam himself. He looked al-Bashir in the face and got prisoners out of there.

Who would Michael Scherer rather see in the white house? Way to go Salon, you've finally moved ahead of the competition for best media dilettante.

Holly Golightly...

You care about ballot access so much you're choosing not to vote. I couldn't provide better evidence of the myopic idiocy of the green party if I tried.

"Unnamed Clinton Associate"

Gotta love those anonymous sources. Since Iowa, the Clinton campaign has left no dastardly tactic untried. One thing is clear by now. Clinton cares ONLY about her political aspirations. She'll throw the entire party under the bus before this is over. Refusing to be upstaged by Joe Lieberman, Hillary Clinton will screw this whole party over in her efforts to fulfill her sense of entitlement.

How about the popular vote?

Why not settle this by looking at the popular vote? Let's have a winner take all national election. Obama is winning that, too.

Michael Lind

Yeah I'm sure that Masters from Yale really clued Lind in on the nuances of small town, blue collar life.

The Only Clear Thing

is that the politics of cynicism continues to win out over honesty and understanding. Of course that works out in Clinton's favor.

We Ain't Seen Nothing yet?

I've been voting age for sixteen years now, and I've never seen a primary season drag out this long. Is there not a point in time at which people will just get fed up with the Kitchen Sink Strategy? It seems as though folks in PA are already sick of it. As a resident of NC, I am not looking forward to the attention. I'm sick of my party looking like a reality TV show.

Huh?

How on earth can anyone make this about Clinton's gender?

Wednesday, April 16, 2008 12:03 PM

Positive? REALLY?

She has essentially endorsed McCain over Obama, and Clinton supporters consider this positive?

Clintonistas have a strangely Bushian way of seeing things

Is that the excuse that Wingnuts use to support torture? "Well, if you think waterboarding is bad, you should see what the taliban wants to do to OUR people"

Since when is "the republicans are going to be worse" an excuse for Clinton's style of negative campaigning? There are two arguments which blow this argument out of the water:

1. Wrong is wrong. It is up to US to do the right thing in a world where people constantly get away with worse.

2. No matter how close you come to the line of "That Which Republicans Will Do To The D Candidate", you're still using THEIR playbook.

There's just no way Clinton can pull herself out of the shame spiral she has brought upon herself. And her followers happily cling to the handbasket she's riding straight to political Hell.

Hey Wes!

Are you talking about the Weather Underground people Hillary's husband pardoned, or some other group? Don't ask, don't tell, right?

The sooner they back Obama, the sooner W.E.S. can go back to his usual routine of slobbering over bikini bullriding websites. Eagerly awaiting his watermelon and fried chicken jokes...

How Can Anyone Say Dean Is An Idiot?

Even though his campaign for the nomination failed in 2004, he brought presidential campaigning and grqassroots organizing into the 21st century for our party. His 50 State Strategy will be a key to Dems winning back the White House in 2008. It is Clinton who turned her back on the DNC and the 50 State Strategy, not the other way around. In fact, it was Clinton who has tried to set up a "shadow" DNC to circumvent all the good work Dean has been doing.
