filibuster--why not?

I do not understand why the Democrats need to care about losing the right to filibuster judicial appointments. If and when the Democrats take back the senate they will only need 51 votes to get their appointments passed and if people like Alito are getting thru now what value does the filibuster option have anyway? If the Democrats don't use the filibuster and force the "nuklar" option on the Republicans they will have a hard time defining themselves as a valid alternative to the Republicans in 06 and 08.

filibuster

I don't know why the Democrats didn't have a big meeting a month ago and decide they would filibuster Scalito. Maybe because they are Democrats and not Republicans and so lack that clarity of mission that comes from communicating directly ( almost ) with Jesus thru his appointed administrator on earth, President Dog Brain. Anyhow I am glad an attempt will be made and while the outcome is obvious to all who communicate with Jesus and of course to God himself who writes what is to come each day on an etheral blog that I can't quite locate...fools like myself will proceed as if there were free will in the universe and humor ourselves with tender mercies.

scalito filibuster

It was a tough loss but it was a loss that women and Americans suffered in November of 04 not yesterday. I did find some comfort in the fact that Scalia passed through with 98 senate votes and at least that won't happen again. Still there are now four right wing nuts on the court and things are grim. When we disgruntled ones are all put in ships with some loaves of bread and a few jugs of water and set out in the ocean by the Dobson /Robertson Relocation Navy please put me in the boat skippered by Ms. Smeal instead of the one skippered by Mr. Grieve. Thanks for pointing out the painfully obvious Tim, its great to wallow.

duck, duck, dick

I bet the powers that be were waiting to see what old Harry's prognosis was before announcing the most recent debacle. If Harry "bought the farm" so to speak, the spin would be what a terrible tragedy had befallen our leader as he sought to release some of the tensions accumulated from years of eating babies. If Harry just had fifty or so facial and torso wounds the spin would be it was old Harry's own fault.

But enough of the past. Lets move on. Any chance of Dick becoming part of the USA Biatholon team?

West Side Story

When your Scalia

You're Scalia all the way

From you're first execution

To your last locked up gay

When you're Scalia

If the Quail hunt hits the fan

You got Cheney around

You're an upper-class-psycho-fan

I remember the guys who joined the high school rifle teams, Demolay, and assorted junior military groups where you wore uniforms and sashes and could go to meetings with your gwamps oozing and no one cared...we called them douche bags and we weren't even sitting at the cool table in the cafeteria.

This make little sense.

I think having been Dog Brain Bush's Thief of Staff might not be a great asset in running for governor of Massachusetts. Such a resume highlight might be useful in running for governor of Mississippi or for president of Libya. Of course if Handy Dandy Andy is looking to get his brains beat in thru the electoral process to do his penance for participating in the various crimes against humanity of the last five years he could come to New York and run against Spitzer.

Grieve on Gore

Give us a break Tom. Finally someone is calling it like it really is and you have some inane 'electoral politics vs. environmental issues' critique to offer? When anyone of Gore's status on the world stage speaks such clear truth the appropriate response is " YA-FUCKING-WHO!!!". Get a grip.

response to tim's "following up" entry

Tim, I don't think the phrase "renegade band of right wing extremists" is rhetoric...unsupported or inflated discourse...so I am hoping your usage refers to...the art of oratory. After all you must agree that falsifying information to take a country to war, allowing felons to play a major role in the development of a nation’s energy policy, revealing the identity of a covert C.I.A. agent, etc. fits Gore's characterization.

The reconciliation of Gore's desire to “keep politics out of it” with his statement about the current regime being lunatics lies in accepting the premise that Bushco is not really an entity one could engage in a non-partisan way but, if we ever return to Earth from this adventure in Bizzaro land one could envision a Democratic and Republican configuration capable of cooperation.
