The personality cult is the point here, not Sarah Palin

Choose any comment from a Palin follower on this thread. She's perfect, she's a saint, she's unfairly attacked by the media, you're jealous, you hate her. Clearly not all of this can be true, about her or anybody, but that doesn't stop the knee-jerk assertions that they are.

Sarah Palin as a politician is troubled and deeply flawed. She should never have gained public office and any honest observer would admit that. The cult is about denying this truth for their own emotional protection, it's not about Sarah Palin herself.

Original article: Sarah Palin, one tough mama

Funny

What's next, an article lauding George Bush as steadfast and resolute?

Palin acted like a frantic get-away driver throwing her kids out of the car hoping that would slow down her pursuers. Every scandal, every criticism, every political opportunity and another Palin kid got jettisoned and left to fend for themselves.

Frankly I'd answer "hell yes" as well if Sarah was my mom and offered to stop cynically exploiting me.

You forgot "cowardly" educal

She's a coward. And it was we liberals who sent her running with her tail between her legs.

Sadly that's pretty much all the Republican Party and American conservatives have left: fear and weakness. You should be dancing in the streets now that Palin is gone and you can choose someone of character - but all you're able to do is whine and mew about how abused she was by the liberals. Get some self-respect.

I have nothing but contempt for people of any political persuasion who would choose such a craven buffoon for a leader.

A "court" ruled?

Republicans don't do "courts". Or elections.

I wonder how long until they shoot up a church or bomb an abortion clinic to express how unfair life is to them.

American are idiots

Selfish, self-centered lazy halfwits.

Sorry, but that's the reality. We are going to reap what we sow.

"So you think that money is the root of all evil?"

No, but the love of money clearly is. Rand's childish followers prove this again and again.

Original article: How to talk about abortion

I'd certainly like to have a converstation without killing each other

Unfortunately the anti-choice side has chosen otherwise.

Now what?

Friday, June 12, 2009 12:34 PM

Well of course Palin acts like any mother would

She pushes her 14-year-old into the spotlight and screeches about the injury to herself while daddy Todd gets into the act and pushes the youngest out as well.

Sarah is the Octomom of the Republican Party.

"Do you think Obama would ever call America a Judeo-Christian country?"

Well I hope not. Because we aren't.

Wednesday, June 3, 2009 04:00 PM

"Is dialogue possible?"

You mean with the guy who was having an illicit affair while sanctimoniously agitating to impeach a president who had an illicit affair?

No, no it's not.

Tuesday, May 26, 2009 02:54 PM

So we now have THREE classes of citizens

1) Straight people who are allowed to marry.

2) Gay people who are married.

3) Gay people who can't get married.

I'm no lawyer but I think that's about two too many. When did we stop teaching about Dred Scott in our law schools?

I was going to compliment the GOP

for at least using the proper noun "Democratic" but I see that not all the wingnut idiots got the memo (h/t libertyaintfree).

Ah well, no matter.

Whine and stomp your feet all day long about what you want to call the Democratic Party. The rest of us (that is, the civilized world) already have a name for the GOP, and there is no need to hold a big convention or send out a memo - it's already stuck and it's set forever.

The word is "losers".

Conservatives defend torture and lawbreaking.

No surprise.

Thursday, May 14, 2009 10:43 AM

It's always politics first with the Republicans.

They are disloyal and profoundly un-American.

Wednesday, May 13, 2009 04:19 PM

Sounds good to me, let's see what Pelosi had to do with this...

...and Reid and Feinstein and Obama too.

When will the Republicans demand accountability from their politicians?

Tuesday, May 12, 2009 10:06 PM

Obama needs to jail him

Every minute he spends free is another minute our Republic is in danger.

I'm being completely serious here: less evil people than Dick Cheney have overthrown governments before. He TORTURED people, and he would do it again.

There is more than enough evidence to charge and convict him. An abundance of evidence actually. If we don't hold him accountable we will never be safe in our own country.

@cestmoi123

"How do you know that he isn't generating 20x the value of a normal worker bee?"

Because he's unemployed. He is generating zero "value".

"Frankly, how much money he makes is none of your business, unless you're his employer."

Frankly he shouldn't have given this information to an interviewer to be published in a national magazine.

Monday, May 4, 2009 06:16 PM

Heh...

The state who's lifeblood is organized crime, gambling, drugs and prostitution is issuing felony charges in a complaint over hourly wages?

Nope, nothing political going on there.

Saturday, May 2, 2009 10:54 AM

Let's see...

How a about liberal Supreme Court justice for a change? Maybe one who will defend civil liberties and base his votes on the interpretation of the Constitution?

Nah, let's get another religious neo-fascist, or maybe another village idiot, or another silver-spoon corporate attorney.

There's always room on the court for another tool.

Friday, May 1, 2009 03:04 PM

The criteria....let's see....

Cowardice? Spinelessness? Lack of principle?

Souter is going to be a hard act to follow but I'm sure our President can dig someone up - God knows the muck is deep enough.

Thursday, April 30, 2009 03:13 PM

All hate all fear all the time.

I know who the real danger is to me and my family.

Excellent paper about the 1918 pandemic

Scary stuff.

"Texas Republican Doesn't Know Where Oil Comes From"

That's the real headline, and not because he asked this "gotcha" question either - he apparently actually doesn't know how all this black sticky stuff got under his feet.

Again and again Republicans keep proving there is no bottom to their well of ignorance and stupidity.

Wednesday, April 22, 2009 03:03 PM

Wow

R.Thompson:

"The position you advocate is known as Manicheanism. It postulates that the world consists of a constant struggle between good and evil and that good is justified in anything it does to eradicate evil, however brutal, gruesome, dishonest, or whatever the means might be."

NotOrbitBoy 8 minutes later:

"@R. Dumbson: I don't believe most of what you claim I believe...Classic straw man argument..My comment re Right vs Wrong was in reference to WWII, where the US and its allies were on the "right" side of the debate, and the brutal acts we committed were justified to vanquish Hitler and the Japanese."

Epic wingnut failure. Beautiful.

Wednesday, April 22, 2009 09:43 AM

Hehe...

It's fun to watch Cheney squirm. "WAHHHH!! Oh please release the memos Mr President!!"

What a pathetic weakling.
