When I first saw the topic, my reaction was "Dump him." Then, after reading the letter, I thought "Just tell him it bothers you, and if he really cares about you he will at least try to be more circumspect." But then I read Cary's response, and I like it a lot.
My guess is that the most likely result is that he starts being much more surreptitious with his ogling. He may start to make it a game the two of you play. But I expect it to embarrass him, at least to the extent that he will try to avoid being so obvious.
I doubt this will make him actually stop, although that is possible. But I do think this is great advice.
This is merely a bit of political grandstanding. "Look, torture is wrong. I issued an Executive Order against torture!"
If there were a real desire to stop torturing suspects, word would pass down the ranks, people would lose their jobs, even go to jail. There would be no need for an executive order.
It's not like this bunch cares about following the law anyway.
Fringe Base. Think about that for a second. The person who is cheering this unjust and unjustifiable military action made disparaging comments about the Democrats' fringe base.
Yeah, well, the outer center, the negligible preponderance, and the inconsequential majority will be pretty pissed too.
I first heard about the George Washington video SilasDoGood linked to right here on Video Dog. I have had it bookmarked ever since that time (A year ago? Several months at least). It has the little Salon icon next to the bookmark.
So when you ask Why did I not find out about it here? I can only answer by saying Because you weren't paying attention.
Having said that, I must lament, again, how Video Dog is just a pale shadow of its former self. The first part of the downfall I remember was the several weeks with no new entries besides a half a dozen Hometown Baghdad clips.
To the anonymous person who advised us not to go overboard, calling for Walsh's removal is not overboard as I see it. For the past couple of years there have been many people complaining about the decline in quality of the content of this website. Lots and lots of people have said they were going to let their subscriptions lapse. I have let mine lapse. Walsh is the person responsible for this decline. It happened on her watch at the very least, even if it isn't attributable directly to her decisions.
It is possible that there are rights issues behind the missing good content. One of my favorite parts of Video Dog was the clips from The Daily Show. If Comedy Central has told Salon to stop posting those clips, Salon owes us that explanation. If Comedy Central hasn't told Salon to stop posting them, well, bring them back!
Red State Update is pretty much a one-joke concept. It was mildly humorous the first time or two. But it has gone way stale. If I felt it was funny enough that I wanted to see every one, I would bookmark the website, and visit it myself.
Bring back the old Video Dog, or at least explain why it is gone.
I can tell from my home here in the Heartland of America that they hate us for our freedom. The idea that there could be any other reason for Islamo-Fascism is ludicrous.
I have noticed that many misogynistic posters on Broadsheet like to use anonymous. I find it quite cowardly for the most part. Several have made the claim that they require anonymity for their own protection, or to prevent readers from rejecting their arguments out of hand based on their name. I personally find these arguments bogus excuses for cowardice, but you never know.
I like the idea put forward by teho, that is to have "Anonymous A," "Anonymous B," et cetera, for different comment threads. Sometimes I feel like making posts in response to anonymous posters. This would allow them to cower behind their anonymity, yet allow others to specify which cowerer is targeted by the reply.
This is just another attempt to create reality. "Maybe if we say the newest generation of voters is Republican often enough, it will come true."
Just file it away. Or flush it away. Or whatever.
Thank you very much Digby.
If Bush wants a rush to judgment to pass this bill, there must be something nefarious in it that will be to the detriment of the country.
Is this a knee-jerk reaction? Yes, it is. But it is a knee-jerk reaction prompted by years of lying and abusing the deaths of September 11th.
You reap what you sow.
...we -- yeah, most of us, including those of you who clicked on this item -- bear some responsibility...
How is it that I bear responsibility? I have never done anything to promote Lohan, or Spears or Hilton for that matter. I have never purchased anything, or recommended anything, or written anything, or even said anything that would add to the celebrity or fortune or lifestyle or life of these people in any way. The only thing I have ever said about any of these people is that we should quit talking about them.
Yes I clicked on the link. I clicked on the link that was at the top of the page, because I always click on all the links that are at the top of the page.
It is disingenuous to blame me for reading something you wrote. This does little for your credibility.
It's almost as if there were discussions of one candidate's choice to often appear in a suit without a tie, or another candidate's hair cuts.
