My Prediction

No matter who wins the presidential election, there will be tens of millions of people who think the result signals the end of the republic.

@ adlgator

I hate to disappoint you, but natural selection only cares about who reproduces the most viable offspring, who themselves go on to reproduce.

And the ignorati are the ones who are creating the largest number of viable offspring.

I am going to be at a watch party

A woman I go to church with is running for County Commissioner. I have been working to support her campaign, and I am going to be attending her watch party.

Of course, we will be paying attention to the state and national races as well.

Let's cover the spectrum, shall we?

Obama's plan is both a Fascist plan and a Communist plan. The brutal extremists at both ends of the political spectrum.

There's room on this train for haters of all stripes!

It's a good idea

I have taught in high school, and I have taught in college. I know how clueless most people are about what they want to do with their lives when they are that age.

I include myself in this. I changed majors over and over again.

A one year intermission between high school and college can be very educational. It can help you decide on a direction for your life. It gives you life experience before you actually go out to start living your life.

You can do it in the armed forces. You can do it in community service. You can do it in the peace corps. It is a very good idea.

The concept of wanderjahr is not new. It has existed in many cultures. It's probably a good idea. I am behind it.

I don't really know that much about film genres

I don't know what post-modernist means. I don't know if it is all good, or all bad, or (most likely) a mix of the two.

I do know, however, that Van Damme couldn't act wet in a flood, so this movie, whatever its genre, has to suck.

The point of the Constitution

The Constitution is supposed to prevent the majority from oppressing the minority. The idea that civil rights can be decided by democracy is just stupid.

Civil Rights must come from the courts. They cannot come from legislation, they cannot come from referenda.

Sometimes it is two steps forward, one step back. Other times it is one step forward, two steps back.

My hope is that this is one of the last gasps of the tyranny of ignorance and hate, at least as far as this issue goes. In the public schools I have seen a growing acceptance of homosexuality, even among the most reactionary and intolerant. Soon it will become what it should be.

In the meantime, I am sad and dispirited. Why do we heterosexuals have such fear of this? Why does this make so many people so hateful? I guess there is some fear hidden in this somewhere, and fear is the brother of hate.

I guess as long as we keep inching forward, there is some cause for optimism. But for now, I am profoundly sorry for a further legislation of hate and intolerance.

Here is my understanding of the Lieberman issue

Obama doesn't want him kicked out of the caucus. That doesn't mean Obama wants him to remain in the caucus.

It remains to be seen, but I think Lieberman will lose his chairmanships, and then leave of his own accord. If Lieberman leaves of his own accord, that will satisfy Obama's desire that he not be kicked out, as well as satisfying those who want Lieberman to be gone.

It will also avoid any negative repercussions from kicking Lieberman out. Even if he joins the Republicans, he may continue to vote with the Democrats on those Democratic issues he has always supported. If he is forced out, he may choose to vote All Republican All The Time. Giving Lieberman this "honorable option" is a potential upside to the don't kick him out strategy.

My predictive powers have been shown to be rather weak the past couple of years. But at least this is a plausible scenario that doesn't include Obama selling out quite yet.

She is not going to go away

Even here at Salon, Camille the Twit is talking about how awesome Bible Spice is. Not that Paglia's endorsement has any value with people who can actually think. But we are not dealing with people who can actually think, are we?

Here in Oklahoma, more people were voting for her than were voting for McCain. The ignorant love her. She isn't going to go away. The only way to be safe is to keep exposing her stupidity and mendacity and incompetence.

I am totally sick of her. I wish I didn't have to ever hear about her again. But I would much rather read stories emphasizing her bad qualities than listen to her take the oath of office of the President of the United States.

And the downward spiral continues

This is the top story?

Really?

And people give you money to read this website?

(Yes, I realize I am giving them money indirectly by viewing pages with ads on them. But still.)
