What is the point of this article?

Why is Salon printing a primer on "relaunch[ing] the Palin brand"?

Does Salon suddenly want Palin to be successful? Are you endorsing McCain/Palin?

Or is this just a way to prove your smug superiority?

I have not read this crap, and I am not going to. I have no desire to read about how to help the McCain/Palin ticket.

I do know that Salon's relentless harping on Palin helps the McCain/Palin ticket.

Why is it so important to do whatever you can do to promote McCain/Palin?

The Republican's have got you dancing on a string, and you don't even know it

The last couple of weeks have been a masterful job by Republicans of setting the bar so low you couldn't even trip over it. At the debate the real Sarah Palin will show up.

Of course, the real Sarah Palin isn't all that impressive. But she doesn't have to be, since Democrats have been so enthusiastically working for the Republican strategy. She will be her marginally competent self, and will "win" the debate in a walk.

To any rational, reasonable, and logical observer, Biden will be clearly the superior debater, with a far more comprehensive understanding of the nation and the world. But rationality, reason, and logic have no place in a Vice Presidential debate.

In fact, Biden will come off looking bad, at least in the eyes of the general public. In the eyes of those who will be swayed by this political low comedy. McCain will get a boost in the polls.

The economic collapse may come to the rescue of America and the world. That may put Obama so far ahead that the Republicans aren't able to steal the third election in a row.

But it is extremely likely that the debate will showcase, along with Joe Biden, our nation's 45th president.

@ navyguy

I'm sure she'll come across as a nice lady, and the format will be such that she won't trip over herself too much, but I'm not sure if that's enough after what the American public has witnessed from her the past couple of weeks.

Where I live, people are bending over backwards to excuse and justify Palin's ineptitude. They are sympathetic to her now. When she performs much better in the debate than she has in the interviews, they will feel justified and empowered.

Granted, McCain was going to get Oklahoma's seven electoral votes no matter what. But I would be surprised to learn that the attitude I am seeing here isn't duplicated all over the country.

The trolls are out today

Did this article get written up on some right wing website? Or were the trolls just reflexively drawn here because of the debate?

Hearty recommendation

I'm not sure what weight this will carry, but I heartily recommend this book. As Wolk says, it gets funnier every time I read it.

I am currently reading the entire catalog of cartoons for the sixth or seventh time. Since there are currently 1485 strips, it takes most of a week to complete. But I have read the Great Outdoor Fight story arc at least a dozen times.

Having the book is wonderful, because it allows me to show it to my friends without needing a computer and an internet connection.

I don't know how many people I have been able to hook into Acheworld, but I won't stop trying.

Original article: How Sarah Palin blew it

I didn't watch it, I was at school

I wouldn't have watched it anyway, playoff baseball is much more important than a vice presidential debate, when my mind is made up already. (Cynthia McKinney, anyway)

It seems I was right that she would come off more eloquently than she has in the past couple of weeks. I desperately hope that I was completely wrong about everything else I have been predicting.

No matter what, I think it is vital that the Obama campaign continues to battle as if they were behind, and not get complacent or lazy. The possibility of a McCain/Palin administration is so frightening and would be so disastrous that I don't even want to have to contemplate it.

Lawn Signs

Oklahoma is certain to go for McCain. Absolutely utterly certain.

From what I have seen in Tulsa, yard signs are about 10 to 1 for Obama. Even in the most affluent neighborhoods, you almost never see a McCain sign. I don't think this indicates a lack of support, I think it indicates a lack of enthusiastic support.

In my neighborhood, I see as many Ron Paul signs as I see McCain signs. But this is one of the few Democratic strongholds in this Republican city in a Republican state. (Stronghold being a relative term, of course.)

Anyway, while I hope you are right, I am not sure you can draw any conclusions based on yard signs.

Carmina has you dancing on a string

Carmina says:

...Bill Ayers (a convicted terrorist, yes)...

I am no defender of Bill Ayers. It baffles me that he is a respected college professor.

But one thing he is not is a convicted terrorist. He was never even tried. As far as I know he was never even arraigned. But even if he was, he is not even remotely a convicted terrorist.

Carmina is obviously talking out of her (his?) ass. Yet you all feel inspired, or obligated, to respond as if you could actually accomplish anything against this person with logic and reason.

Ah, well.

Hope springs eternal, I guess.
