lvmblvmb totally hit the nail on the head:
In fact, if I were Joe Biden, every day I'd be saying I'm really working on preparing for my debate with Palin because she's a formidable opponent. If not, she is given the benefit of low expectations. If she goes into the debate with everyone thinking she's going to be terrible, all she needs to do speak in complete sentences and people will be impressed. Why give her that advantage?
All you have to do is look at the debates with Quayle or with Bush. They weren't utter disasters, so they were the "winners."
This is the perfect strategy. Too bad I don't know of a way to see that this is implemented. Surely someone who reads this will have the connections to send this on to the people who need to see it.
We can't afford to let Palin win the VP debate merely because she doesn't totally fail.
Come on, Democrats, do it right for a change!
So another poster writes:
...maybe I'll come back but until then the Republicans will get my presidential vote. For the first time ever!
I just don't understand how someone who has been a Democrat could vote Republican in this election. Did you get hit on the head?
The next president will almost certainly set the Supreme Court's ideological compass for the next decade, if not decades. Do you really want that compass to be pointed to Extremist Conservatism? Really?
Because that is what will happen if McCain is elected. No matter what other disastrous Bush policies he will continue to pursue, he will totally radicalize the Supreme Court to favor the worst of the Republican agenda.
"I used to be a Democrat, but I don't like some little fragment of Obama's policies, so I will enable the Palin wing of the Republican party to dominate the Supreme Court for the foreseeable future."
Or even worse, if it is because of Hillary Clinton. "Hillary Clinton didn't win, so I am going to enable people who are the antithesis of everything she stands for."
It's a win-win for Clinton? She will just cruise into the Oval Office in '12 if McCain wins this year? Two bits of reality for you here:
1 - It is by no means certain that Clinton will win in 2012. Your are living in a fantasy world if you believe that.
2 - After four years of McCain, the only people in this country who won't be in dire straits will be the richest 10 or 15 percent. And many of the problems that may still be solvable now will be impossible to fix. So Clinton won't be able to accomplish much of anything.
If a Clinton White House is all you care about, go for it. If it's the country you care about, you are going about it the wrong way.
Go ahead, vote for McCain. Your face will look so much better after you cut off your nose.
spare me the handwring over Roe.
So you think Roe is the only issue the Supreme Court will address?
You really are too stupid to be allowed to vote.
There are a couple of obvious reasons:
Energize the Theocrat wing of the Republican party that McCain himself has no hope of reaching.
Capitalize on the fallout from Hillary Clinton's run for the White House.
But a less obvious reason is to distract from McCain's weaknesses as a candidate. To shift the focus. To get Democrats talking about irrelevant issues.
And Koppelman, you have fallen for that, hook, line, and sinker.
How does it feel to be a dupe?
The only reason this is on the ballot is to get people to vote.
People who don't really like McCain, and who aren't enamored of the Caribou Barbie will still make it to the polls to vote for "life begins at conception."
And while they are out there, they will vote for McCain, because they certainly not going to vote for Obama.
A brilliant move by Colorado Republicans.
If they have "truth" as part of their name.
Those of you who are arguing when life begins or when abortion should be legal or constitutionality are handing the Republicans a gift-wrapped victory. Aren't you proud.
Wake up!!
How rational or irrational this ballot initiative may be is NOT THE ISSUE!!!
As long as you rattle on about the proposal itself, the Republicans are winning.
That is their plan. Get the Anti-Choice zealots to the ballots, and get the Pro-Choice supporters distracted.
Is it really necessary for you to make it so easy for them?
It's not about when life begins. It's not about when a zygote becomes a person. Ir's not about this piece of legislation.
It's no wonder that the worst president in the history of this nation was reelected. The Republicans have you dancing on a string.
As long as he can keep it going, it helps his side.
Obama mentions sky is blue, water is wet.
From Perez Hilton?
What is his take on Sarah Palin?
In the letters section about John McCain's lies, keroseened makes a one-liner remark about pretending to believe one of McCain's more egregious lies.
Too bad it was so in-character for a Republican in 2008 that it isn't funny.
ARTHUR: Hail Messiah!
BRIAN: I'm not the Messiah!
ARTHUR: I say You are, Lord, and I should know. I've followed a few.
FOLLOWERS: Hail Messiah!
BRIAN: I'm not the Messiah! Will you please listen? I am not the Messiah, do you understand?! Honestly!
GIRL: Only the true Messiah denies His divinity.
BRIAN: What?! Well, what sort of chance does that give me? All right! I am the Messiah!
FOLLOWERS: He is! He is the Messiah!
BRIAN: Now, f**k off!
[silence]
ARTHUR: How shall we f**k off, O Lord?
I wonder why that is.
