  • Definition please

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

After reading it over and over, seeing the term used in ways that include me as well as ways that exclude me, I am succumbing to my curiosity in order to ask:

What does "nerd" mean to you, W.E.S.?

The only definition I have been able to construe from context is:

Anyone who cares at all about anything that W.E.S. doesn't care about.

If I am wrong, could you please enlighten me?

So your definition of "nerd" is only about a lack of athletic prowess, which has little relation to the way you use the term in your posts.

There are two conclusion I am tempted to draw from this:

First, that you use the term for purposes of derision alone, in a way that is to be expected from elementary or middle school students.

Second, that there is no reason to give any credence to any thing you post.

I am perfectly willing to draw different conclusions, but to do so would require evidence that is differs from the evidence you have provided so far.

  • That politics thing

[Read the article: New Clinton spin: March 4 states must-wins for Obama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Hillary Clinton can still win. There is still a chance that she can come up with enough delegates to win the nomination. That is the ultimate point here.

This memo tries to set up a situation that Clinton can leverage to her advantage. If the story is set up properly, she can turn this to her advantage even if she is still behind on delegates.

Why is this all so hard to understand? It doesn't matter how old you are, politics has been like this all your life.

  • I guess there is a point to reviewing Will Ferrell movies

    [Read the article: "Semi-Pro"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

But I can't imagine what it is.

People who like Will Ferrell movies will go see them. No matter what they are.

People who find Ferrell utterly unfunny will avoid them like the plague. No matter what they are.

I guess there might be a handful of people who are ambivalent about his work, who will read a review and then use it to decide whether or not to attend. It is hard to imagine such people existing, but maybe they are out there somewhere.

  • The main reason I don't watch Orman

[Read the article: I Like to Watch]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It's more than just her repeated "save more spend less" mantra.

It's the fact that she spells her name "sooz" but pronounces it "suzy".

It's her name, and she can spell it how she wants, and pronounce it how she wants. I am not disputing that.

But it's a nickname! She can choose any spelling! Why make that choice? *shudder*

I found it cringe-inducing for all the years that I saw it and thought it was pronounced "sooz". When I discovered it was supposed to be pronounced "suzy", the creepiness factor shot through the roof.

I guess I could learn to put up with it if she was involved in something I wanted to be a part of. But as things stand, every time I see her name it decreases the possibility that I will ever watch anything she is involved with.

Yes, I realize I am violating the rule on putting punctuation inside the quote marks. But I think punctuation should only go inside the quote marks when the punctuation is part of what is being quoted. In cases like those I am employing, putting the punctuation inside the quotes implies a connection that doesn't exist, and I can't bring myself to do that.

  • NOT an advance on next year's taxes

    [Read the article: Opus]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

My professional tax preparer assures me that the money is a rebate on the taxes paid for 2007. It is not related in any way to anyone's 2008 taxes.

  • Concerning KTPTO

Not gonna say "I told you so," because I didn't. I thought you were right.

But last night the Rockets completely outplayed the Nuggets in Yao's 3rd missed game. And if they continue to play the way they played last night, who knows how far they can carry on.

Yes, I think they are overachieving. But I can dream, can't I?

  • Not really Democrats

[Read the article: Quarter of Clinton supporters would vote McCain over Obama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Any Clinton supporter who would vote McCain over Obama is not really a Democrat.

Any Obama supporter who would vote McCain over Clinton is not really a Democrat.

I am going to refrain from saying that anyone who would vote for McCain instead of the rival of his or her preferred Democrat is far too stupid to be trusted with a vote.

  • Am I missing something?

[Read the article: Kansas O'Flaherty ... Secret Agent]

Why are people saying this is over? I don't see anything saying it is over.

  • Excellent interview

Manjoo is in his element here, and it shows.

Excellent, informative piece, well worth the time to read it.

  • Context

[Read the article: Scott Bateman: George W. Bush serenades the press]

When you go to see your 6-year-old in the Christmas program, and you applaud, why are you applauding? Is it for the quality of the presentation? Of course not. It is because the kids are so cute up there.

Little Georgy is so cute, singing a song. Isn't he?

  • How could this stunt by Wallace possibly hurt Obama?

    [Read the article: "Obama Watch"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Are there people who regularly watch Wallace's show who are seriously considering voting for Obama? People who will then make the decision that they would have voted for Obama, if only he had gone on that show?

Really, this can only help Obama's campaign. It is actually quite humorous to watch this hack make a fool of himself and help a Democrat at the same time.

  • Nerd?

Dang, WES, you are all getting your nerd on today! In-depth analysis and math and stuff!

  • We see what we want tp see. Who wins, who loses?

[Read the article: Clinton "very glad" Obama gave speech]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Both on this thread and on the Obama speech thread the reactions are the same: Clinton supporters see positives in Clinton and negatives in Obama; Obama supporters see positives in Obama and negatives in Clinton.

Personally, I will be delighted to vote for either; the first Black president, or the first Woman president.

But I will be happiest when the candidate is decided and the Democrats stop doing the Republicans' work for them.

  • Head Games

[Read the article: My boyfriend won't give me his apartment key]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

This guy is playing games with you. He doesn't respect you or think of you as an equal. Your only choices are to play games back at him or dump him.

    Don't play games.
