Paper Doll - music and lyric by Johnny S. Black
---
I'm gonna buy a paper doll that I can call my own,
A doll that other fellows cannot steal.
And then the flirty, flirty guys with their flirty, flirty eyes,
Will have to flirt with dollies that are real.
When I come home at night she will be waiting,
She'll be the truest doll in all this world.
I'd rather have a paper doll to call my own
Than have a fickle minded real live girl.
I guess I had a million dolls, or more;
I guess I've played the doll game o'er and o'er.
I just quarreled with Sue, that's why I'm blue,
She's gone away and left me, just like all dolls do.
I tell you, boys, it's tough to be alone,
And it's tough to love a doll that's not your own.
I'm through with all of them!
I'll never bawl again!
Say boy, watcha gonna do?
I'm gonna buy a paper doll that I can call my own.
A doll that other fellows cannot steal.
And then the flirty, flirty guys with their flirty, flirty eyes,
Will have to flirt with dollies that are real.
When I come home at night, she will be waiting,
She'll be the truest doll in all this world.
I'd rather have a paper doll that I can call my own,
Than have a fickle minded real live girl.
After more than five minutes of gay talk, CNN cuts to another audience shot of Chuck Norris, restoring a straight vibe to the proceedings.
BTW, thank you for watching so I didn't have to.
The reason I think LisaSUG's response is a lie is her assertion, When I got pregnant no one told me of any other choice. I didn't know.
She didn't know that actually having the baby was a choice? She had never heard of adoption? She thought that abortion was the only option when you got pregnant?
The only cultural message I have ever heard is that pregnant teenagers should have their babies, and that adoption is the only acceptable option. While there may be sub-cultures that see abortion as the only choice for a pregnant teenager, I have never heard of them, and can't imagine they would be so pervasive that a pregnant teen wouldn't realize there were other options.
Another part of her letter that screams "Lie!" is the timing of her response.
We are to believe that she was just cruising the internet and happened to find this article less than four hours after it was posted? That she was just following her personal daily routine of looking for commentary about her website? That a young woman has nothing better to do than to debunk objections to her website? (We know she isn't a regular reader of Salon, since she has no other letters posted under that name.)
Contrary to its stated intent, LisaSUG's letter raises more doubts about the authenticity of the SUG website.
The plausible excuse, that some anti-feminist troll here emailed her to alert her of this article, answers one of the two objections I raised in my response to her first letter.
There are plenty of anti-feminists here. It would only take a single right-wing troll to send the purported email. But the smugness and sanctimony of Lying Lisa's second letter belies the supposed wounded girl behind the name.
I have not been to the site. I don't need to go, don't want to go, won't go. If I went, I might see how old she is pretending to be. Maybe the traumatic abortion was supposed to have occurred a decade or two ago, thus explaining the otherwise-incongruous maturity of tone in the snide second letter. But even if that is the case, the second letter makes a lie out of the first. The tone, maturity, and overall style is markedly different in the second letter. Perhaps it is the true character of the real person behind the fake name showing through. That is what I would guess.
But Lying Lisa ignored the biggest reason her first letter came across as a blatant lie: The inane and unbelievable I didn't know there was any option besides abortion sob story. It will be interesting to see if she (he?) comes back and leaves another letter explaining this particular issue.
Also, I am rather curious why PhD is mentioned, rather than MD. Surely if one wants a doctor's opinion about a medical issue, one would choose to consult a Doctor of Medicine rather than a Doctor of Philosophy. After all, if my PhD in Mathematics were complete, it wouldn't make me any more qualified to comment on sterility vis a vis abortion than I am now without it.
I think he is as gay as the day is long, and his rampant homophobia is symptomatic of how seriously messed up we are in this country with regards to sex.
But the timing of these new revelations makes me doubt their veracity. Why not come forth months ago when the scandal broke? Or later, when he reneged on his promise to leave office?
No, I don't believe them at all, just because of the timing. The addition of the Ted Haggard connection makes it comically absurd.
If Clinton ever gets arrested (and convicted) for soliciting sex in a public restroom, the discussion of comparable coverage will then become relevant.
Until Clinton gets arrested, comparing the two is disingenuous right-wing bullshit.
Or, I guess, elephant shit.
