Interesting map...but inaccurate
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I live in what the map consideres to be Rangers country, but that is not the case. There are more Yankee fans here than Ranger fans. More Cubs fans, and more Royals fans too. But the team that owns this part of Oklahoma is doubtlessly the Cardinals. Drive around the city where I live, and you will see more Cardinal logos than all other teams put together. But I have only seen one Rangers logo in the past year. Hell, I see more Pirates logos than Rangers logos.
The part of Texas attributed to the Rangers is way to large too. The Astros have a bigger chunk of the Lone Star State than they are given credit for.
I can't comment on any other part of that map, but I can say that it greatly exaggerates the Rangers fan base.

Find another job
[Read the article: My boss says I'm a lesbian but I'm not!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Your situation is clearly one of sexual harassment. You have grounds for a complaint, but it is hard to imagine that it would be worth the trouble to pursue it. Maybe if you found a lawyer who was all gung-ho about it you could even win, maybe get enough money to pay for school. But my guess is that it wouldn't be worth the trouble.
I am not trying to decide for you, I am just saying it the way I see it. If it seems worth it to you, hey, go for it!
But even if you won some kind of judgment, you would need to find a new job, because, really, would you want to work there after that?
Your appearance, clothing, shyness, and sexual preference are totally irrelevant to your boss's inappropriate behavior, and irrelevant to the solution to your problem.
Just get out.

Hmm. This is the second letter this week that has the form of:
Significant Person in my life thinks I am (fill in the blank), but I'm not!
I hope this isn't indicative of a trend.

Inhofe
[Read the article: What is James Inhofe trying to keep secret?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]When Inhofe was a congressman, he got props for publicizing things "liberals" wanted to keep hidden. Now he is hiding things "liberals" want to publicize. No one who knows anything at all about him is surprised.

What do we do with the waste?
[Read the article: YouTube takes on the anti-nuke set]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This stuff is lethally toxic for hundreds of thousands of years. We have to find a place to put it to store it safely for all that time. We haven't found a place yet.
I am skeptical of creating more of this incredibly hazardous waste when we haven't dealt with disposing of what we have already created.
Yes, we have storage containers that can probably safely transport the waste. But transport it to where? How can we guarantee the safety of this waste for that long?
I guess if we could find a way to drop it into a subduction zone that would move it under the earth's crust that would work. But we need to do that first. Let's not assume we will fix it at some unknown time in the future.
The oldest manmade structures on the planet have only been around for a tiny fraction of the amount of time needed until this stuff is safe.

What about the waste?
[Read the article: Nuclear war on YouTube ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]What about waste that remains deadly for hundreds of thousands of years? Prove you can deal with that, then we'll talk.
And dimbulb, stick to whining on Broadsheet please.

@ alan brown
[Read the article: Nuclear war on YouTube ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It is not a "must be coal or must be nuclear" question. You cannot justify nuclear by saying that coal is bad. In fact they both are very bad ideas.
Replacing one very bad idea with another that creates waste that will be poisonous for a time span twenty or so times longer than recorded history is not rational.

My poor state
[Read the article: Why James Inhofe tried to sabotage open access]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Inhofe continues to embarrass the minority of Oklahomans who actually think about politics.

Late Local News
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]...ratings for all demos except the 55-plus crowd went up after 11 p.m....
The ratings go up when the the game overlaps with the late local news.
It looks like that to me, anyway. Here in flyover country where I live, 11 PM on the east coast is 10 PM, right at the time when the local news broadcasts start. Imagine, all the people watching their regular weekly network TV, then the news starts. Nobody really wants to watch the news, so they surf over to the baseball.
And since the games are lasting four hours, that leaves at least an hour of baseball to watch. Which is probably pushes the limit of the attention span of the casual viewer. Any true baseball fans have been watching the whole game, after all.
Just my unresearched opinion. Sounds logical to me.

Another Frightening Indication
[Read the article: The case of the angry colonel]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Here we have another incident that should be Big News. It should be Big News because it indicates a continuation of the highly disturbing unraveling of the fabric of our country.
It is very unlikely to enter the mainstream of public consciousness. It is being widely discussed in certain parts of the internet: On the pro-war side it is seen as further evidence of the wrong-headedness of the anti-war loudmouths. On the anti-war side it is seen as further evidence of the political nature of the actions of our military and its leaders.
It has not, however been discussed (as far as I know) on national television. It has definitely not been discussed by any of the presidential candidates.
This is so perfectly evocative of the disruption of everything America is supposed to stand for. The lack of public awareness of it is the final tone in the deathknell of what we thought our country was supposed to be.
