What did you think was going to happen? The '15 minutes' are almost up. Outside your 'bubble' there's a huge segment of folks living between NY and LA that would like to hear something other than silly platitudes about 'tearing down walls"; "building bridges" yadda yadda; on and on... It's becoming tiring just to listening to this guy. Hell, cryptkeeper Mccain is starting to look good. The Obama campaogn is at risk of becoming a sideshow spectacle. Something people walk over to, look on for a few minutes, then walk away shaking their heads.
.........Jeese, and I thought Muzak would be the end of civilization!
That's an amusing line, .....When are we going to get it pounded into our thick collective skulls that the "federal government' is us?
Are either one of these two clowns actually going to talk about issues? Or is this infantile drivel supposed to pass for legitimate discourse?
I know it's chic these days to hate 'big corporations' and their 'windfall profits', but I sure as hell wouldn't want to work for some schlub company, with no money. Think about that while your pounding away on your petroleum based keyboard. Off shore drilling won't lower prices, but as part of a serious overall energy plan that includes alternative and nuclear, it could have a stablizing effect on the markets. Perception and fear drive the energy markets to a large extent. Disagree? Every time someone has a bad hair day in the Middle East, oil spikes higher, on nothing more than fear alone. Politicizing the energy crisis; and it IS a crisis; does nothing to help solve the problem. Neither does whining about 'windfall profits'. This is capitalist America right; Not communist Cuba?
It would have been nice to have the less structured 'town meeting style' discussions. It could be to Obama's benefit using this strategy, but his campaign is the only thing that gaines from it. The rest of us lose. We lose the opportunity to get a real feeling of where these candidates are coming from, unencumbered by rigid debate formats and talking points. I'm kind of surprised McCain even brought up the idea, considering he obviously has the 'less than inspirational' speaking style. Makes me wonder what Obama's afraid of. After all, McCaines supposed to be the doddering old fool, right?
......that only whites can be racist. Obama's comments on 'other presidents' that 'don't look like him' were as much about victimization as well as race. So here's a guy that wants it both ways. He says he doesn't want the campaign to denigrate into one based on race only, Yet he'll toss out a non too veiled racial comment when it's convenient. If Mccain had said Obama doesn't 'look like' the other presidents, he'd be on the straight talk express, heading home an hour later. I wonder if race played a part in Philadelphia during the primary when over 90% of African Americans voted for Obama and not Hillary? Nah, that's impossible, what am I thinking? Hell, I'm not even supposed to ask that question. .........All of this is really amusing coming from a media and a candidate that basically made the decision that he is 'black' I didn't know we had a biological choice. All things being 'biologically equal', which they appear to be, I suppose he could also run as a white candidate. ............Now that would be a real flip flop....
Already just the 'idea' alone, of using ethanol has made a bunch of adults stupid. So it stands to reason the kids won't be too far behind. We need congressional hearings; senate oversight; scientific conferences; more regulation; UN intervention. Where the hell is the FDA and Al Gore when you need em'? This is a freakin' disaster!
Well, I'm pretty darn sure the "world" hasn't actually set any "standard' when it comes to water consumption; just an indication of the average use through the usual means of measure. If you would like to infer there's some kind of standard to be met, feel free to do so. I choose not too. These silly guilt ridden comparisons between the U.S., China and Ethiopia are specious at best. I'm sure the Tuaregs of the central Sahara use less water than the the average US citizen also. That's good. Necessity breeds adaptation.
It's also not unheard of for corporations to funnel money to candidates through employees. Regardless, it's an inconvenient truth for both candidates, and a no win for either side.
Feel free to give away as much as you want. That's charity. Mandating thru taxation, the reditribution of so called 'wealth', is inherently unfair. Even Churches don't impose different rates of tithing for the 'wealthy'. You might want to check on what the Bible says about class envy, hypocrisy and individual choice.
If the Bible is about "as socialist as you can get", then I wonder why Marx didn't hand them out. Carl not Groucho............I suppose it all depends on your intepretation and the particular meanings you wish to ascribe to the scriptures....I've always thought of the Bible as a template for personal responsibility. Look a little closer, you'll see envy (coveting other's possessions) and hypocrisy lessons throughout. You don't think Adam and Eve were the first to exercise and experience individual choice, along with the consequences?..........I don't want to get off into a endless debate on the meanings of the Bible. But in regards to the basic premis of fairness when to comes to taxation; taking from one group to give to another under the guise of the 'greater good' is stealing, NOT charity, no matter how you suger coat it.
