Well, it seems that all government subsidies for that program have quietly been cut. I suppose this administration, in it's infinite wisdom, has somehow decreed electric cars will be our future; regardless of consumer demand or practical developmental considerations. Oh, and that "money they're getting from the Federal government"; that would be our tax money... Good idea, to once again, manipulate innovation thru regulation and taxation. That's 'change' we'll be paying and waiting a long time for..
......I agree; it could react with whatever it is you're smoking now.. "homeowners were told they "HAD to take the crazy loans"? How did that happen; at gunpoint? Were they rounded up in the middle of the night? Or were they just looking for what they thought was a good deal and overextended themselves? That's called 'making a bad financial decision' based on greed rather than common sense. Much like the Hedge Fund crowd was doing. ..... "Wall street TOOK other peoples money" and "people who were the source of the money were told they were making a 100% safe investment that couldn't fail?"? . I've never heard of a 100% safe investment in Wall st. that "couldn't fail"; if I had; I'd be in it...Only the delusional would think playing the market is a 100% safe. Of course, if this had all worked out to the homeowners advantage; you'd be whining about missing your opportunity.........Come to think of it; if 'envy and whining' were part of the commodities market, I could make a bundle right here at Salon....
At least Bloomberg's up front about it; and at least we have stadium to use. He never promised a return on my investment; unlike 'some folks', that claim the taxpayer will be getting interest on those billions in bailout "loans". Loans? Yeah right! .....Hey look, there goes a pig with wings!
I keep seeing this phrase tossed around as though it's indicative of some endemic social ill, that we need to abolish. Aren't there 'disparities' in every segment of society? Or are we saying, by using this phrase; that folks that are working menial jobs should make as much as someone in a tech job, or medical profession?...Please explain exactly what would be 'fair and equitable'. And do it such a way that doesn't punish those that have worked hard and earned their place in society....
........And so is money itself. Look at all the moronic phrases we use to describe it: "money is the root of all evil'; 'blood money' 'cold hard cash' 'filthy rich' 'windfall profits'....It's no wonder the drones latch onto this garbage and start proslytizing over the 'right way' for everyone else to live their lives; except them. ..I find it strange that I've never heard of a lottery winner giving up their 'ill gotten gains' for the 'greater good' Or the media pressuring them to hand it over, because society has decided they 'don't need it'...... I wonder why?
"If you want a simple answer to what "income disparity" is, that would be it. Any society in which the largest segment of wealth is tied up in the smallest demographic slice of the population, which is literally unable to spend it (and thus reinvest it) within their lifetimes is experiencing a disparity."...................................... Well, jeese Steve; when they make their money,(and there is OTHER money to be made), and not someone elses; they can "reinvest it" any way they want; or not at all!.. That's the way it works:: I'm typing real slow so that hopefully; you'll understand the basic premis of capitalism ..........
I really don't see how Bloombergs; Buffet's; Jobs; or Bill Gate's "tied up money" affects me in the least. Unless of course you believe that somehow; someway; they have a piece of your fortune that somehow got away from you. Explain that to me. Because even if, in your fantasy world all these guys were to be stripped of their wealth tomorrow; how do you think it'd affect you? You plan on standing by the mailbox waiting for a check from, where?....who? So, blame everyone else for you lot in life; it's easier than trying to figure out how to do it for yourself...What a strange hypocrisy: 'capitalism worked too well for those guys, so they owe me' ...Sad. but at least those guys through innovation created jobs and helped the economy. I guess they just did it 'too well' for your tastes. and ...BTW Is anyone as equally upset about that 70 billion the government pissed away on TARP? Some of that happens to be MY money!!
....I get the feeling that it's funded by a system of endowments, that are as disconnected from real world economics as Mr. Reich's article......Here's a news flash: according to President Obama himself, this government is broke; out of money. "Revenue scarce"? how about non existent.... I don't see what's so hard to understand here. We simply can't afford to keep printing and spending money we don't have, especially on another 'bottomless pit program' like health care.
I'm still waiting for my return on that taxpayer funded GM investment. How's that goin'?
