Yes, it was so cute to watch wasn't it? An immature gesture from a naive candidate. Perhaps this will usher in a new era of fist bumping politicians and world leaders. I can imagine the UN General Assembly declaring the world would be a safer place if we all could just 'bump together'. No, whats really sad here, is the apology for speculating in the first place. God forbid someone, somewhere might take offense! And offense they will take. After all, this is Barack Obama, the next mainstream media elected president of the United States. The election is over. All thats left is for someone to drive that stretch Prius limo up to the White House, and drop him off......
Of course Matthews has never been on a ship he didn't feel free to jump off if it was going to impact his ratings. Ask Don Imus. But I do feel reassured, knowing it's only the fifth largest tax increases since the forties. Obama's economic plan is to tax an economy that's in the toilet? I suppose in the Bizzaro world of the Democratic Party it makes sense. This is the same party that acknowledges we have an energy crisis and need to become independent, yet recently voted once again, to ban off shore drilling. Nuclear energy is still considered the original "N" word and we won't even discuss coal to oil technology. Even though we have the largest coal deposits in the world. Meanwhile China is drilling 90 miles off the coast of florida. We all seem to agree that energy drives the economy, yet neither party seems willing or able to come up with a viable plan. There are no lifeboats on this Titanic, only the same old finger pointing and rearranging of the deckchairs....
"Progressive Tax reform?" A clear definition of that term is about as forthcoming as a definition of "windfall profits" and "fair share" is. But I suppose a 'feelings based' tax code is one most liberals would prefer. That way every perceived social inequity can be addressed by fiscally punishing those who have amassed 'too much money'; another phrase without a clear definition, and 'redistributing the wealth' to those that have done nothing more than show up with their hands held out for their 'fair share'. But if we're going to be 'fair', why not just call it "The Class Envy and Hypocrisy Redistribution Act" Castro would love it! .....I'm sure It'll work out just fine,............. right up until they come for Mr Leonard's paycheck..........
That has to be one of the most convoluted assumptions I've read in quite a while. But then most assumptions based on partisanship and feelings of class envy usually are. I would think that someone worth millions IS carrying that kind of credit card debt. Unless you think the more affluent carry wads of cash around just to impress the rest of us, rather than use a credit card.
Gee, I can't wait to see what kind of credit card debt the Obama's have, I suspect that story won't be written quite like this one........
I agree, nothing is sacred on the internet. Any sense of propriety goes out the window when you have some angry closet shut in pounding on his, or her, keyboard when it's safe and anonymous. I doubt there'd be this kind of 'verbal crotch grabbing' face to face. On balance I think Russert was heads above anyone else out there. He managed to aggravate folks on the left AND the right. But a lot people are so locked into their own inflexible framework of thinking, whether they be Republican or Democrat, white, black etc, that every event is colored and filtered through their particular thought process. So be it......There are a lot of politicians and newspeople I don't care for, but they should all be given some modicum of respect when they pass.
So let me get this right...Ahmadinejad is the same dictatorial antisemitic clown, the US college crowd seems so enamoured with? Go figure...I'd like to see the girls from Phi beta Yaz, walk around the streets of Tehran proudly displaying their tramp stamps........
Obama's clueless if he thinks his wife should be "off limits". She's out there actively campaigning for him, not just going along for the ride. Obama's been given enough 'free passes' by the media. The same standard should apply to McCains wife if she does the same type of work. If so, they're fair political game....Let her defend herself, she's supposed to be an adult. I didn't hear Hillary whining that Bill should be "off limits"..It sounds like a convenient sexist double standard to me.
What's the suprise? This is the same guy that doesn't want the media to mention his middle name, and like the true sycophants they are, they go along. The proverbial 'Chickens' are slowly coming home to roost.
To actually write that this is "a profound choice between two world views", shows an amazing lack of intellectual capacity. Framing the so called "debate" in such polarizing terms suggests there are no other solutions available. Or Leonard, like Obama, would rather complain and finger point, rather than come up with real solutions. We can't drill for oil AND develop alternative sources? The concept of multiple approaches to the energy problem is academically too taxing to consider? Alternative energy research would mysteriously end if we allowed off shore drilling? That's a helluva prediction to make. Based on what?
We're sitting on the largest coal deposits in the world, which could be converted to oil; refuse to drill into known oil deposits, refuse to build nuclear power plants; and then wring our collective hands over wind farms. Meanwhile China is drilling 60 miles off the coast off Florida! ........I guess luddites like Leonard won't be happy until we have a third world economy and are all gathered around communal campfires. After all, to paraphrase Churchill, "Socialism IS the equal sharing of misery"
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
