Prude indeed
[Read the article: Fondling Stephen Colbert]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I think the whole thing was rehearsed. What tipped me off was the posed picture at the end. Did they just happen to have the graphics ready? Remember, being a pro means making every moment seem spontaneous.
Having a feminist icon turn the tables on harassment was as funny a concept as having two feminist icons bake bake an apple pie. Colbert's protestations were exactly what the stereotypical female harassment target would say. I thought it was fairly typical of what the show does best.

Creation Museum
[Read the article: Inside the Creation Museum]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I've kind off agreed with Stev(ph?)en J. Goulds idea of non-overlapping magesteria. Simply put, the mind of man can deduce that "how" of the universe. That is to say we can figure out "how" stars are born, "how" life changes over time, "how" radio active decay occurs. But when it comes to "why", we turn to the spiritual side of things and try to understand that which, IMHO, can't be known.
The problem here is that there are a large number of people that prefer to not do the labor of understanding "how" because it diminishes their place in the universe.
Think about it. What would you rather be told? Would you like to hear that you are merely the current manifestation of a natural process that has been going on for billions of years and will continue for billions of years after you're gone? Or would you rather be told that you are the lord's special creation, created in his image, with a divine purpose to your existence (sp?)?
If you look at the history of rational thought, the ideas that have caused the most angst are the one's that tell us we are not the, um, crown of creation. Remember that the church locked up Galileo for the last few years of his life because he could prove the earth (and by extension, man) was not the center of the universe.
There is a certain mind set that just can't accept our insignificance in the grand scheme of things. Why that mind set is so prevelant in MY country is beyond me. But it saddens and disappoints me.

But I doubt it
[Read the article: Better to be Hamlet than President George]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]A small correction for tomreedtoon: Sirhan Sirhan was Jordanian, from Christian parents.
A little lesson from my life has been the only time I've really f***ed things up have been when I was absolutely, positively sure of myself. I just seem to operate better with a tinge of self-doubt. And, yes, sometimes that leads to indecisiveness, and that has it's own problems. Flip flopping aside, I have found that four of the most powerful words at my disposal are "I've changed my mind".
You see that same sort of self-assuredness in the evolution denial crowd (The Bible Says It, I Believe It, That Settles It) and the global warming is a hoax crew. I'd like to think that reasoned debate would open their eyes, but I doubt it.

Get a Life, Indeed
[Read the article: "The Sopranos" goes dark]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You may think that the hoopla over the Sopranos does not bode well for our national character, but it's nothing new. Dickens used to serialize his novels, the last being "Our Mutual Friend". Each chapter was as highly anticipated as the Sopranos episodes. There would be people waiting at the dock in Manhattan for the ship that carried the latest chapter.
The more things change...
Having said that, let me say I thought that the last scene was a nod to The Godfather (weapon in the mens room) and the Crazy Joey Gallo hit in Umberto's Clam House. Joey was shot in front of his family, at the time this was considered a severe breach of etiquette (sp?), if you can imagine such a thing. Combine that with what Bobby said in an earlier episode and I think that sums things up. I don't remember the exact quote, but the words were to the effect of "you never hear the shot that gets you; everything just goes black".
I'm just sayin'

Piss 'em off
[Read the article: I Like to Watch]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I think the whatever ending Chase came up with, he would piss a portion of the fan base off. If Tony was killed, some people would be pissed. Ditto if he flipped. Ditto if he just went about his business.
Given this quandry, he did the only logical thing. He came up with an ending that pissed almost everyone off. Brilliant in it's own perverse way.
BTW: I agree with you about "Any Way You Want It"

Enough

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Would you have felt better if he went to sleep in the safe house and woke up next to Suzanne Pleshette?

Coulter Uses Nasty Tactics
[Read the article: Ann Coulter gets what she deserves]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I feel sorry for Elizabeth. Didn't she know that she was just setting Coulter up to call her husband a pussy-whipped milquetoast who can't fight his own fights? Who hides behind his wife's skirt when he's attacked.
Look, Coulter uses nasty tactics. She can't understand normal thinking. Appealing to her sense of decency reveals a certain lack of perception on the part of the appealer. And I'm not even sure "appealer" is a word.
Elizabeth needs to understand that when an asshole is asked to stop being such an asshole, they'll respond by being a BIGGER asshole. Hence the emasculating verbage at the beginning of this post. Only a total asshole would respond that way.

Pardon Me?
[Read the article: Why did Bush commute Libby's sentence?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]So, let me get this straight - it's OK to aide and abet those who would expose a CIA agent. It's OK to use the intelligence apparatus of the government to spy on and commit felonies against opposition parties (see Watergate). And it's OK to use the NSC to subvert the Constitution (see Iran-Contra).
BUT DON'T YOU DARE LIE ABOUT A BLOW JOB????
This has got to be the WTF moment of the decade.
