too bad

I was kinda hoping a psychiatrist could turn me gay... those boys seem to have so much fun. You know, apart from the opression.

Original article: The need to breed

child fetish

Maybe if we didn't treat child-rearing with such fetish-quality attention, more people whould actually want to have kids. Back in the day, pretty much everybody had kids because birth control was unavailable, people didn't feel the need to buy expensive toys, camps, clothes, etc. for their kids. And we called thatthe greatest generation. Of couese, the GI bill helped there, didn't it.

identity

My wife didn't take my name, and now she has gone and left me because she's not sure who she is. The way I see it, marriage should change your identity, and it should make you damned sure that you share one with the other person. Whether that can be accomplished by one member of a marriage changing her name is another story.

I actually liked Tideland

What does it say about me that I liked Gilliam's Tideland?

I also loved Fisher King and 12 Monkeys a whole lot. However, I hated Time Bandits, Baron Von M and Brazil. No wonder I am so alone.

wow

Really, how many women wouldn't have a little belly roll if they hunched forward like that? Lizzi Miller is not plus-sized except in the world of modeling. In the rest of the world, most women would kill to look like her. She must be tall to weigh 180.

Evolutionary?

As a first husband myself, this doesn't really make me feel any better.

true

I have been following the debate closely and I still have no clue what the heack is being proposed, only that it is expensive. I know more about better systems in the rest of the worlsd and how much ours sucks though.

Model Year Clearance

If all Cash for Clunkers did was clear out the '08 and '09 models so the car companies could ship out an appropriate number of '10 models, it's probably a good thing.

What's the problem?

So it's better that a baby be aborted than adopted? Huh? These people creep me out but at least they are putting their money where their mouth is.

Whu?

Why on earth would Pat Buchanan dredge up the failed strategy of apeasement 60 years after it failed?

The hidden sales tax

Visa and MasterCard snatch 3% of every purchase made with one of their cards. It's like a hidden national value-added tax that goes into private hands. The revenue would probably be enough to make a serious dent in healthcare.

Original article: The wrong man died

c'mon

This letter simply has to be fake. Probably not even an actual Brit.

Like it or not

Everyone can agree that executing innocent people is wrong, so it remains the best argument against the death penalty.

The uneven application of the punishment simply does not engage people. The death penalty is a perfect punishment that has no place in an imperfect system.

Great GMO idea

Crops with built-in, human-only birth control. Okay, that's a horrible idea.

Raise taxes

In the 50s, we had marginal tax rates of confiscatory levels on higher earners. That was a great idea, but it will never be politically possible again.

We are at the point now where gov't borrowing is sucking up a lot of cash at the expense of investments in the private sector. So yes, we need more gov't spending, but that needs to be funded by a tax increase nobody will approve.

Original article: Why do women have sex?

Not much new here

I have read all this biological evolutionary guessing stuff elsewhere. It's all common sense, which means it may or may not be true.

This isn't England

We don't have a parlimentary system in which national votes for parties determine the makeup of the legislature. Mor the most part, Americans tend to hate Congress but like their own representatives just fine. Besides, most Americans live in non-competitive districts and states thanks to migration patterns and gerrymandering. My congressman will NEVER be unseated, because there are no Republicans in my district.

Microsoft = GM

I don't think Microsoft could be devious enough to do this on purpose because they are just oo stupid. Microsoft is General Motors.

Original article: The surprise Spanx make-out

As a man...

As a man, I guarantee that no man will ever notice a little extra belly on a woman with D-cups.

we need a mandate AND a public option

In states like PA, individual coverage is very expensive because denial of coverage due to prexisting conditions is banned. So he insurance companies are right - we need a mandate if we want to ban denial of prexisting conditions and keep costs low. However, we can't mandate coverage when the market is dominated by one or two private insurers. Ergo, we can either have a mandate and a public option together or neither at all. It would be in the best interests of the insurers to choose the former.

Like a tax

Clearly we need a higher marginal tax rate at incomes above 200K. Why did Willy Sutton rob banks?

Just give up

Firt of all, this high school senior is barely literate. The system failed her.

Second, urban schools need to give up trying to educate all children. The 80% that want to learn should be allowed to learn. The 20% that are going to end up in jail anyway should be sent to reform school, where they might even learn something themselves.

I may have just described season 4 of the Wire, but it's stil the truth.

Income Distribution

Technology and outsourcing mean that the economy can provide for everybody without everybody working full-time. Eventually, we are going to need income redistribution or shorter work week.

Wednesday, October 21, 2009 07:01 AM

saves the day

I just read about half the sorry comics archives. Because it is basically my life, it made me feel better. And worse.

Original article: Meet the marijuana moms

doped and docile

"when jobs and cash are in short supply, legalizing marijuana would seem both prudent and profitable"

That's right, keep all those unemployed losers doped up and docile while we take their futures!

The right was considering this year ago, but then crack started making people violent.

Where's the afro?

Blacks have been judging themselves by white beauty standards forever, so this is just the culmination of a long process. Chris Rock even made a movie about it.
