Terrorist Factory

If you took even an innocent man and locked him up at Guantanomo for 6 years with no trial, he would emerge as a terrorist. After all, he's been locked up with terrorists and experienced treatment from the Americans completely at odds with our rhetoric of freedom. Even if he came out somehow not hating our country, whatever living he earned is gone. His experience makes him a valuable asset to the terrorists though, so he'll take a job they offer.

Operations

The biggest problem with this stimulus and most federal funding in general is that it pays for big projects but not operations. It buys trains, but there's no money for conductors. It builds a museum, but the museum has no money to fix holes in the roof in 10 years.

We need to shift from local to federal funding for many of these projects. Right now, states and cities with old infrastructure and more needy residents must have higher taxes than states and cities in the south and sunbelt, which are able to compete for jobs and residents because they do not yet have those costs.

Better deal

Careers used to be about rising to the top at one company. Now it's about hopping around. So why not have your kids young? It's easier to get back in the workforece at the bottom than the top. For that matter, what better time to have your kids than college, with its flexible class schedules?

Poor women have known this for years. Have a kid at 17, and lots of social services will be available to help you out with housing, education, etc. research shows that poor women who have kids young end up earning more later than their peers who wait.

C'mon - is that even worth mentioning?

$6400 over 16 years. Gimme a break. This is getting stupid. The IRS is still using ENIAC, so some of these errors must be theirs.

Socialism in demand

What Republicans have never understood about the New Deal is that it offered just enough socialism to prevent a revolution. We do need a little socialism right now, because the alternative is not pretty. Of course, the Republicans would probably be just as happy to revert to fascism.

Massive Inflation (

Volcker will never admit it but what we need is massive monetary inflation to wipe up all this red ink from the deflation in real estate, followed by a return to Bretton Woods. If the Chinese sell their dollars that's what we'll have anyway, so we might as well beat them to it and build some bridges first.

High Pay is a Tax

the Repubs are always saying "you don't want to be like Europe with their high taxes do you?"

Well guess what? Excessive executive compensation is just like a tax - it leaves less money for investment and profits. Our rising health care costs are like a gigantic business tax.

The answer, in both cases, is higher taxes on the rich. And don't tell me they won't work as hard. Over a few million, more money has no impact on your lifestyle. It's just a number and taxing it doesn't change that. Besides, we could do without these dopes working so hard, and if they quit, someone will take their place.

Give it a rest, Krugman!

Obama has been president for 30 freakin' days and already Krugman wants to throw him under the bus. I mean really, if the guy accomplished everything liberals have pined for for 8 years in one bill, what exactly would he do for an encore?

The US constitution was deliberatly crafted to make fast, sweeping changes in the best interests of the majority IMPOSSIBLE. It's frustrating that Wyoming has the same number of senators as New York, but this flawed system has proved to be the most durable form of government in the world, surviving civil war and triumphing over fascism and communism.

This is how sausage is made. Embrace it.

Insurance pays

If you didn't have insurance, you would pay $125 or more. So the $25 would be a deal. Your insurance company has probably already read your post and will jack of co-pays to $30 to force people to go online.

The real rascists

This Lieberman guy is probably evil but his main point is that arab Israelis should serve in the army or some other form of service to maintain their citizenship. Those rules already apply to Jews, so why not? That's how you build a cohesive countryl The real rascists are the ones who want the Arabs separate.

Banks are broke

The banks are broke. Their assets are worthless. There is absolutely no way to change that.

boeing

The lawsuit in question lists Boeing as the plaintiff. I'm no fan of big military contractors, but you can't set a precedent allowing a company to be sued for soing what the gov't pays it to do. Otherwise, you make accepting a gov't contract too risky. This is the wrong way to go after extraordianry rendition.

Barren Future

By the time my wife and I an afford kids, we will be too old to conceive. She just lost her job, and no telling how long before she gets another one.

Eric Theodore Cartman

I didn't know Cartman was Chinese. Next they are going to tell us to get in the kitchen and bake them some pies.

More like Liberal Moron syndrome

Are the liberals in this nation just so used to dumping on the president they can't break the habit now that their guy is in? Less than a month in, Krugman is already chiding Obama for giving in on health care. IT'S ONLY BEEN A MONTH! This isn't some movie in which everything gets wrapped up in 110 minutes.
