fair enough

release the damned movie. If this was an attack movie on one side or the other, like an unfit for command kind of thing, I would have a problem with it comming out before the election, but this doesn't qualify.

The result is here

High oil prices may not have brought the apocolypse, but they may be responsible for putting the brakes on the economy. Sure, oil will go down when the economy slows, but the economy will slow when oil rises. The limited supply is essentially a limiting factor to economic growth. Of course, the high oil prices this year were not so much due to peak oil as investors throwing their money into oil because throwing thewir money into housing was no longer seen as a great idea.

Finally!

I have always thought that the high earnings of CEO's and such was a problem not just in terms of fairness but because while poor and middle class spend all their money, the super rich don"t...

Investors are idiots.

The stock market lately seems like a herd of people running back and forth at one on the deck of an unstable boat. It just goes to show that the MBA morons on Wall street have lost touch of the connection between the value of stocks and the value of companies. We could replace all these wizz kids with Atlantic City blackjack dealers and have a more functional economy.

But it's not Arugula!

Hey, they can't have it both ways. Either Obama is an argula-munching elitist or a watermelon-scarfing negro. If anything, this helps Obama. Poor white trash people love ribs, fried chicken and watermelon as much as poor blacks. And why shouldn't they? It's good eatin' and I want some!

Insulting

I find it very insyulting for a former mayor of a small suburb to say that his governing experience is equal to Sarah Palin's. She is the governor of a state with nearly 700,000 residents. Only the mayor of Memphis Tennesee could claim to be her equal. (Then again, with three senators on two tickets, who have never governed anything larget than a senate office, the point itself is moot)

not so bad

True, I live in a liberal bubble but it seems to me that McCain and the rest of the Republicans have been surprisingly restrained so far in their attacks. Of course that's damning with faint praise - they have merely been less evil. The ACORN thing is the exception. Truly despicable.

Eat WHATEVAR

True or not, why do we care? If the Obamas eat arugula, they are elitist. If they eat ribs n' kool aid, they are you-know-whats. If they eat at McDonald's, they are hypocrites. If they try to avoid all of the above, they are picky. What's safe? I guess they should only eat at diners. Somebody has to...the food at those places is usually worse than a fast food joint and 5 times the price.

It's sad that we have made one's choice of meal so partisan. I mean, c'mon, I am a middle middle class middle-of-the-road liberal. I like fried chicken sometimes. Once in a while I'll order a lobster. I had a sausage egg biscuit at McDonalds on Sat. and then went aqccross the street to the farmer's market to buy organic beets and goat cheese.

Wic is great until you are in line behind someone using it

I support WIC, great program. But man, it is such a pain in the but when the person in front of you at the market is using a WIC check. Bran flakes qualify, raising bran doesn't. Kraft Singles qualify, the store brand with more oil and less milk doesn't... I can only imagine how annoying and embarassing it is fro the mom.

Stop the presses!

This is a pretty weak story. I mean really, the whole "rising gas prices force more Americans on to overburdened public transport" was in all the papers months ago. Somehow, here in Philadelphia our chronically underfunded PT agency is saying increased reidership is balancing out the increased cost of fuel and they are investing in hybrid busses and new trains. I don't know how exactly - this is also a system that doesn't have ticket machines or vendors at most train stations.

McCain has a make-up artist??

Egads, the John McCain we see on TV is wearing a $1000 makeup job. Hate to see what he looks like without it (anybody remember the 80's Movie "Death Becomes Her"?

Let's be sane

Smoking a few cigarettes a day outside is not going to harm your children. 40 years ago, women smoked preganant and everybody smoked in the car with their kids. Somehow, we're all here.

Say what?

I don't cook Asian food every night but I do a lot of shopping at the Asian markets here in Philly because the produce is cheaper by half and fresher. They sell every vegetable sold at the supermarket besides Broccoli Rabe and Collard Greens and a lot I can never get at the regular store. The meat is better and you can actually get cuts like flank steak, pork shoulder, etc. instead of just sirloin, "london broil" (the most horrid cut of meat on earth)and pork chops. And, assuming I am not buying organic, it's all comming off the same boat or train anyway. Mainstream supermarkets are absurdly overpriced, especially when it comes to fresh fruits and vegetables.

Stupid Economy

And halfway through the day, it will go up as the bargain hunters swoop in. Then it will crash again tomorrow as they do some profit taking. This has all thurned into a shell game. Why can't we have an economy that meets everybody's needs without requiring ups and downs related to unneccesary consumption? I guess I'm a socialist.

The next bubble will be in windmills and solar panels.

Actually it's starting to look like...

Actually it's starting to look like we should just inflate the hell out of our currenty and pay off every single debt. Clean slate. You can only do it once though.

One sentence

Instead of giving a whole speech on race, Obama could have ended this with one sentence:

I often disagreed with him on politics, but I will always be grateful that Rev. Wright led me to find Jesus.
