The talking heads on CNBC are pulling for a 1000 point rally. Booyah, just as soon as the deal gets signed, but one sanguine trader on the floor said it would probably be a case of buy the rumor, sell the news, and the news will be a long list of provisions to the Paulson plan. Once the details are revealed the market will sell off.

Congressional types like to posture and pose for their constituents. Here I am signing the bill that will save the US economy. Here I am on vacation while the details are slowly revealed, and that bill turns into a bureaucratic quagmire. So Number Two looks pretty good.

These people aren't entirely stupid, they know that this thing needs some time, time to see if Paulson is bluffing, time to see if some of the measures appear to be working, time to let their constituents cool down. Time to let the campaign get going again, and get McCain some Ritalin to cure his hyperactivity.

The slow steady hand on the tiller is what Obama seems to be all about. By election day, if the hysteria dies down, the voters will take a deep breath and vote for the guy who didn't panic.

Perhaps you've heard this Eastern parable, about a young man, and his spiritual mentor. The guide said, "all things are god, the sky, the earth, the water"

The young man took those words to heart, and walking down the road, he felt at one with god, the flowers, the trees.

There was an elephant driver coming down the road, and he yelled, "get out of the way.."

The young man was in rapture, all things were god, including the pachyderm driving toward him. This is god, too, the young man thought.

At the last moment the young man was tossed aside, and rising from the side of the road, dusty, and bruised, he wondered how God could have done this to him?

He returned to his mentor. He explained the story, and his mentor said, "If you heard God coming, why didn't you get out of the way?"
