Original article: How did Sarah Palin do?

She was good, and wrong.

The speech was well-crafted and contained enough good sound bites that the press coverage will probably be very positive. Which is too bad, considering that most of it was constructed from outright lies.

So what if she's an affirmative action candidate?

Affirmative action does not mean "pick someone unqualified because they're a minority." To shudder in horror at the concept of Sotomayor being an affirmative-action candidate is insulting to affirmative action itself. Affirmative action is about the selection of qualified minority candidates when either all else is equal or they're in the same ballpark as majority candidates.

It's clear that Sotomayor is an affirmative action candidate because if she were a white man, she would not have been nominated for this position. And that's ok, because she IS highly qualified for the position, and the Court needs another woman and minority on the bench.
